This is an issue Nissan has been aware of. There should have been a recall!

If i would have brought my truck in a month earlier with 500 less miles it would have been completely covered.

If anyone knows how to become part of the suit against Nissan or any information on a possible future recall, please let us know! I have a lot of miles on my car, but it has been a nightmare with so many issues since I got it. Very disappointed in quality and customer service.

Update from Jun 26, 2014: http://www.nissanassist.com/web/Radiator/faqs.php?menu=22

This is all I could find on Nissan trying to alleviate the problem that they cause with all the pathfinders. It's so frustrating that they are actually recalling the 2013 pathfinder for transmission problems. :((

I guess since only 200 customers have had this problem it is "small enough" to not worry about a recall. I am over the 100,000 miles to get any warranty help. I have spent over $4,000 to fix the transmisison and radiator issues, not to only have cyclinder misfires and numerous other maintenance issues. ALl this after replacing the timing belt and fuel sensor!!!! I hate nissan will never be their customer again. Disgusted

Pathfinder SE V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

My husband and I were thrilled to be new owners of our 2007 Nissan Pathfinder back in October of 2007. Today November of 2012 I am stern to say I will never buy another Nissan ever again! I am telling everyone as well of the many issues that I am about to share with you. First off at around 70,000 miles my fuel sensor level went out, so even though I filled my gas tank to max fill it still read empty. Because of this I ran out of gas several times. This was a repair thankfully after complaining several times Nissan agreed to take responsibility for and fix. Then the nightmare began at 100,000 miles. I was stranded with my 3 young children because my Pathfinder overheated and started leaking a nasty substance which was the cause of the faulty radiator leaking into my transmission. Repairs consisting of a new transmission,a new radiator and a complete flush totaling well over $6,000. This took place in March of this year. Once I got my ride back I thought we were good to go, even though we were out the large amount of money that Nissan should of paid for. After having my ride back for little over two weeks it began overheating when idling. At this time the thermostat was replaced costing me $75. Once again hopeful we were good to go. I was wrong again, this time driving with my family the damn thing decides to overheat and start spraying anti-freeze everywhere. Luckily besides having to pay for another tow to the mechanic, radiator was covered under warranty since it had only been a short time since replaced. Reason radiator had to be replaced was due to crystallized fluid still coming from within somewhere. Transmission was also flushed fully once again. Pathfinder ran nicely after, this time for almost two months, but here we go again spontaneously overheats idling or driving, radiator starts spraying the anti-freeze. My mechanic can't seem to pin point the problem this time. We are beyond frustrated and just like many we do not have the time or the money to fix this issue that Nissan just gets to sit back and say "Not Our Problem". If it weren't for my husband and I already having financial issues and being upside down on the loan for this piece of crap Nissan Pathfinder, I would of already gotten rid of it. If anyone knows what else could be the cause of the overheating after all that has been fixed, please fill us in. Mean while because of the lack of concern for their consumers and the worst customer service ever, tell all Do Not Buy a Nissan!

After the hubby was driving to pick up the kiddos, he noticed the engine was struggling to gain speed and then heard a loud clunking noise. He took it directly to a mechanic who came up with many possible issues but without pulling it apart, we will not know the exact answer. But one thing is for sure, the transmission fluid is milky in color. Meanwhile, I'm surfing the web hoping to find some answers that would not only shed light on the subject but would also possibly bring hope... NOT!!!! I'm afraid that we are now suffering from the same issues as everyone else here!! Waiting to hear back from the mechanic....

Pathfinder LE 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 83,885 miles

We too had the shuttering sensation occur on a regular basis when driving between 60-70 kph under light load. We took it to the dealer to find out the radiator had failed and leaked antifreeze into the transmission causing the transmission to "slip". The car was 5,000 kms out of the factory warrant but fortunately when we purchased the vehicle we opted to get the extended warranty. The dealer said that they would replace the radiator, flush the coolant and flush the tranny under warranty. I asked about permanent damage to the tranny but he said that if they did not find metal filings in the tranny they could not replace it under warranty. The work was done as promised with no cost to us, the tranny was not replaced as no metal filings were found. They said there was no damage to the tranny. One week later and the vehicle seems to be running fine however I think I feel a slight shutter on steep low speed inclines. I now do not trust this vehicle. It is remarkable how many people have experienced this same failure and how consistently it occurs at the same mileage. I am hopeful that the radiator repair and fluid flushing solves the problem.

Update from Sep 10, 2012: Update, we have had the vehicle for two weeks since the radiator was replaced and the antifreeze and transmission were flushed. The dealer asked us to bring it back after a week of driving to flush the radiator again which we did. We also noticed some slight shuttering on steep hills so we asked the dealer to investigate. They checked the vehicle out, flushed the rad and said everything was working perfectly. Less than a week later while my wife was driving she lost drive while going up a hill, it appeared that overdrive failed, then as she tried to make it home she lost gear after gear to the point the vehicle would not drive a all. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and now we are waiting to hear what's next. I am hoping our extended warranty will cover this, there's no reason why it shouldn't. One thing is for sure, the tranny flush sure didn't save the tranny.

Update from Oct 4, 2012: Good news; the extended warranty has competely covered the repair. I have to say our Nissan dealer (Midway Nissan in Whitby,ON) handled this quite well, we were given no grief whatsoever. I called the dealer to find out what they were doing about the problem and they said the part was being ordered and that part was a new transmission. It was installed few weeks ago at no cost to us and the truck is working perfectly now. Yes this whole experience was a major pain in the butt but Nissan has handled it to our complete satisfaction.

This is a really serious and costly problem and Nissan is well aware of the issue. However instead of doing the right thing and fixing the problem. They are running away from this as fast as they can. They claim that if you have over 80,000 miles you are just out of luck. Well I paid $31,634.00 for a brand new Nissan and I expect it to last more that 80,000 miles. I asked the Regional Consumer Affairs Manager if he thought a new vehicle purchased from his company should last more that 80,000 miles. His answer was "I can't answer that question". Just go on the internet, this is a very common problem, yet Nissan will not stand behind their product. We need a recall now!

We called Nissan and they said there were no faulty radiators issues causing coolant to leak into and destroy the transmission. We needed to research the internet and through your very informative website found that other Pathfinder owners had the same problem. Also Nissan did not tell us the warranty was extended to 80K miles and reported on your website. We are frustrated with Nissan and want them to pay for full cost of repair. Thank you carcomplaints.com for reporting this problem to consumers.

Found out a couple days before vacation that our Nissan Pathfinder (07), which had been lurching in transmission, needed to have the whole transmission and radiator replace, plus flushed out, because of a faulty part that leaked coolant into the transmission and ruined the whole thing. Cost to replace: $7,000+ taxes and fees. I still owe $6,000 on this car! I can't believe with the sheer volume of viable complaints that I've read about this faulty part that Nissan isn't willing to stand behind their product and issue a recall, covering this super expensive repair. Right now I am in a holding pattern, my car gathering dust in our driveway because of fear of driving it, but I just don't know what to do. I'll have to drive this car forever to make it worth my while to fix a problem that Nissan is aware of and should cover. Ridiculous!

Radiator coolant has leaked into the transmission causing damage to the transmission. Not sure how long this was happening. There is nothing on the truck that indicated there was an issue until the truck started making knocking noises. The repair cost I was quoted by Nissan was $6,706.00. I also got a quote from AAMCO for around the same price. Nissan will not offer any assistance to correct the issue. I have tried to escalate the issue without any luck with Nissan. This is my third Nissan vehicle and I am very disappointed that Nissan will not stand behind their product the way I have stood behind them for many years!

Pathfinder LE 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,325 miles

Much like many Pathfinder owners, my problem started when I would drive at a constant speed between 35 and 45 mph. It was like driving over a miles worth of rumble strips and the whole body was shaking. I immediately contacted my local Nissan dealership for a service appointment. This was a Friday evening and therefore I couldn't use the vehicle for the weekend for fear of the unknowing. That next Monday, I took the service rep for a test drive and it happened again. I was informed that from the get go I would be assessed the troubleshooting fee and would see the end cost from there. I left my Pathfinder, got a rental and went to work.

I did not receive a call from the dealership the remainder of the day nor did I receive a call the next day. It wasn't until I called the following day that it was explained that the radiator fluid was leaking into the transmission and also they found metal shavings when they dropped the transmission pan. The radiator and transmission would have to be replaced and Nissan was covering all costs!!! I was shocked!! I really feel for the hundreds or thousands of fellow Pathfinder owners that got totally screwed by Nissan because of this. Heck, even my brother in law had to pay out for this repair. I am considered lucky that I caught this in time, but if I had read these complaints before I bought my 07, I probably would be driving a Toyota or Honda. I still may sell my 07 but am unsure....

I'm joining the complaint on this radiator/transmission problem Mine is a 2007 Pathfinder and we also own a 2007 Frontier and 2008 Rogue. Not looking forward to the fact that we will certainly have the same issue on the Frontier. We were a loyal Nissan family and were looking into getting an Altima next. NOT anymore!!! Nissan Customer service offered us ZERO assistance with our Pathfinder. So much for our loyalty to them all these years. Our money will no longer go to them...AND you can be certain we will share our story with all people we come in contact with in our local community.

Just Brutal.... add our 2007 Nissan Pathfinder to the massive body of complaints around this absolute automotive engineering failure of an SUV. Same problem as every one else... Coolant leak into the transmission that now requires us to dump 6 to 8 thousand bucks into our heap of a car to make it run again. What a money pit. Clearly this is a known issue and Nissan turned their back on it and refuses to live up to the claims of their value proposition to car consumers. Never ever ever never never ever ever... buy a Nissan.

My 2007 Nissan Pathfinder needs a radiator and transmission replacement at a cost of $5000. due to leakage between the radiator and transmission fluids. This is the second major problem with this vehicle. The first was the fuel gauge replacement, eventually covered by a recall, and now this. Both are chronic problems with Nissan and this particular model.

NISSAN NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL AND REIMBURSE THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENTS.

My pathfinder is in the shop being fixed as we speak due to the radiator defect so publicized on the internet. As of the last phone convversation I had with the mechanic the radiator has to be replaced and the transmission has to be rebuilt along with the transmission computer control. Needless to say that its going to be pricey to have everything fixed. Its truely horrifying to know that so many people are having this same problem and yet Nissan has not issued a recall.

Pathfinder LE V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 113,000 miles

We took our 2007 Pathfinder to our normal mechanic because we started to notice issues when putting the car in reverse. It was jerky when backing up. Our normal mechanic said that it was a transmission issue and recommended another shop. We took it to another shop that specializes in transmission issues. After running some tests they told us that the radiator had leaked coolant into the transmission and that both the transmission and radiator would need to be replaced. The estimate that they gave us was $4400. We contacted Nissan customer service because we found it unusual that an automatic transmission would be needed to be replaced after just over 100,000 miles. They told us that they could not help us until we took it to a local Nissan dealership. We took it the nearest Nissan dealership. They ran the diagnostics and concluded that the radiator had leaked coolant into the transmission. We were told that the repair cost to replace the transmission and radiator would be just over $8,000. We were then informed by Nissan customer service that none of the cost to repair our car would be covered. We were told that the extended warranty only covered the cost of the radiator and that our car was over the limit. We talked to the sales department at the local dealership they offered us $3,000 in trade for our car in its current condition. They said if the car was in working condition they would give us $9,000. It hardly seems worth trying to repair this vehicle. We also had the fuel sensor issue another common problem with Pathfinders just over a year ago. This vehicle has not been reliable. When you spend thousands and thousands of dollars on a new car it should last longer than 5 years.

It seems like owning a Nissan should be likened to bunking with bubba in the state prison for, oh, LIFE. I knew I was in trouble when I described the sounds I heard to those I read on this website. I couldn't believe what I was being told. I kept my cool, really, but it's a quarter to 9p and I am reading all of your postings like a Stephen King novel. It's just gut-wrenching and I am about to fall out of my seat in agony. Ok, so, not going to repeat what everyone else has already said. But, I will do the following on my dime, of course, and press this issue until I receive a restraining order from the State Attorney's office. I won't picket any dealership, YET. I've dealt with my local dealer and the service man, who had my car all day and was about to leave the place without calling me back on this finally mentioned to me that there has been an issue on this vehicle and who knows what others. I said, ok...go on..He mentioned calling the main line to Nissan Consumer Affairs. Can't wait to get on that roller coaster. So, I won't hold my breath on them helping me with the mileage I have on the vehicle. But is it safe to assume that a car owner shouldn't expect things to just BREAK because it's been driven and maintained properly? How can a car or truck built in the 90's last as much as 200,000+ miles without any problems and I have a vehicle for 5 years and regularly, meticulously maintained, break like this? I am mortified. I never got a notice from Nissan. I got plenty of letters about extending my soon to be expired maintenance warranty bought at the dealership originally. No, recall, no WARNING. I would have LOVED replacing the radiator if I was warned that it would kill my transmission. Don't get me started with the timing belt housing prob. That'll cost me a new engine, the service man said, after the awkward chat. Today, really, could make a guy cry. It's not fair, I am selfish, but only when it pertains to ME, ha. I have no solutions. I am prematurely ranting. But from the looks of it, this is going to cost me a small fortune with no real recourse. I will never buy a Nissan again, mark these words and look me up in the phone book and call me on it. I'll probably be saying this for the next xyz car-maker until I give up driving or die, but this one is for the books, agreed? Now, on to the elections....
