Just had the ecodiesel emission software update completed and truck does not perform near where it had been. It was never a rocket but it was better than it is now. Sluggish from standstill, especially when cold. Hesitation when shifting. Downshifts more often and sooner. I have owned the truck since new and it has had zero modifications. This issues I described above were not there before the update. There will be some accidents caused by the software.

This vehicle was associated with an emissions recall for its 3.0 liter ecodiesel engine. An aem 'flash' was done to the ECM module, and after that was performed (as part of the emissions recall) the engine's acceleration - previously very responsive - is dangerously lacking. There is a 2-4 second hesitation and terrible response and turbo-lag, and I've very nearly caused an accident when simply trying to pull out into traffic across on-coming traffic lanes. The response from a dead stop is dangerously slow. It's almost as if it's gone into 'limp' mode - which totally disables the turbo. Also - even when moving - if trying to accelerate to pass or move over, the response is agonizingly slow.

Engine fire on 2015 Ram 1500 ecodiesel. Loss of engine power, but still running, at freeway speed. No warning lights or indicators. Pulled to side of the road as "electronic throttle position failure" appeared on info screen. Pulled over and opened the hood. There were flames coming from the back of the engine. Complete loss.

I had previously filed a complaint in regards to the effect of the aem (V08) ecodiesel class action settlement recall. The number of the previous complaint is: 11210536. In addition to what was previously reported as dangerous/safety related, the vehicle for several minutes after a cold start, although apparently running smoothly, when attempting to accelerate, will not. A turtle could out run the vehicle. It takes over 5 minutes of driving to get a more reasonable acceleration. Again, regardless of a cold start, the vehicle will not accelerate after normal driving, then slowing, and then trying to accelerate. It takes several seconds for the transmission to downshift and for the turbo lag to go away - very dangerous when turning in front of or merging with traffic.

"aem recall" following the aem recall on the Dodge Ram ecodiesel, vehicle experiences dead spots in it acceleration. Pressing the gas pedal, even to the floor, provides no input to the truck for 3-5 seconds. This issue has placed myself and my family in danger in multiple intersections and in merging traffic. Vehicle has also experienced deminished fuel mileage of over 3mpg. Fca specifically states the following: "the aem is not expected to change any of your key vehicle attributes, such as average fuel economy, reliability, durability, vehicle performance, drivability, engine noise or vibration, or other driving characteristics. Click here to read the court approved notice that includes important additional details about the effect of the aem on your vehicle." Almost all of the vehicle characteristics listed are affected in a negative way. In doing so, fca is placing all ecodiesel owners at risk.

The recent ecodiesel recall was performed. As I pulled out of the dealership the truck stalled in the middle of a four lane road like the transmission slipped. The next day the truck literally stalled in the middle of the road. The rpms goes up to over 5000 then the truck slowly gains power. I pulled back into the lot and pressed the pedal to the floor from a dead stop and the same thing. Went back to the dealership and was told the only complaint so far was a loss in mpg. On the ecodieselram. Com forum several other ecodiesel owners are experiencing the same issue. This issue is going to get someone killed!

Took the truck in for a recall reflash of a controller. Two weeks later, at 58mph, without warning dashboard lite up numerous symbols/codes and engine shutoff, losing power steering and power brakes. I steered vehicle onto side of road, and engine would not restart. Took first dealership 4 weeks to diagnosis a crank position tone wheel, and sensor failure. Vehicle was returned then 2 weeks later, while refueling at a gas station same failure occurred with diesel engine stoppage, and no restart. Vehicle was taken to second Chrysler dealership. Vehicle has been in second dealership for 11 weeks, "undergoing diagnosis". as of 6/6/2019, no solution found. Frankly, I do not believe they have a clue what is causing the random engine shut off, nor how to repair it. This is what makes it such a frightening defect. It appears random, with absolutely no warning until the dashboard lights up and instantaneously the engine shuts off. How am I suppose to drive a vehicle with my two children around, when it could stall at any time at any speed" I've been lucky twice. Once at 58mph on a two lane road, once stationary. What if it fails merging on to an expressway, or crossing a railroad track"

My Ram 1500 was taken to dealer because of the "recall U07 dx 8-speed rotary." As I pulled out of the dealership I had no power for approximately 2 seconds. I drove the truck 5 miles, still having "lag time" when I pressed the accelerator. I immediately called and returned the vehicle to the dealership. They informed me they had to "regenerate" the recall. They did so, but the result was still "lag time." They then informed me it would take "time" for the motor and transmission "computers" to synchronize. I have driven the Ram over 100 miles and the problem still exist. The problem was documented by Mr. Darren lindemann at "corwin Dodge Ram" in springfield, Missouri. 417-862-9272

Making the 12 mile trip to work when at mile 10 my truck experienced a decrease in power followed by a shuddering noise when on the throttle. Limped the vehicle off to the shoulder where I noted smoke. Opened the hood to discover a small fire toward the rear of the engine compartment. Tried to extinguish the flames with no luck and with in 5 mins the flames had engulfed the front of the truck.

Was driving in town not towing or loaded, truck stumbled like out of fuel. I pulled over and raised the hood and saw smoke coming from passengers side under the engine cover at the egr, egr cooler. With a fire extinguisher handy I pointed it under the engine cover putting the fire out on that side but the diesel fuel from the burnt plastic hose spread to the other side catching that side on fire. Fca after sending a rep. Could not determined what caused the fire but they would except no responsibility for the fire. They also said that they were sure that I would understand that fires happens. Well I don't!! with over 40 years as a auto service center owner I do understand that the eco diesel has a very serious fire problem on their 2014/2017 Ram 1500 ecodiesel. This fire problem is totally different from the environmental class action settlement suit.

Engine shuts off instantly without warning while driving at various speeds. Won't start back up for several hours. When trying to restart, starter turns but seems no gas is going to engine. Truck only has 39K miles. When I walked away from the truck the auto starter tried to start it on it's own.

The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that there was a defective battery placed in the vehicle. The battery exploded and damaged the starter, which caused the vehicle to stall. The vehicle was taken to branhaven Jeep Chrysler Dodge Ram (348 w main St, branford, ct 06405, (203) 488-6351) for repairs, but the vehicle stalled again. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, which caused the rear windshield to become smashed. The dealer kept the vehicle for nine weeks and a loaner vehicle was provided. The rear windshield was repaired, the engine harness was replaced, and an entirely new wiring system was installed. The contact expected some type of compensation from the dealer, but none was offered. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 45,000.

Fca as the parent company to Ram brands has issued a recall R51 for a known issue related to the Ram 1500 ecodiesel using a 3.0L vm motori diesel motor. The recall is intended to cover all ecodiesel motors with a block heater. All vm motori engines are equipped from the factory with a block heater. However, only some trucks were shipped with a factory installed heater block cable, and only those with the cable code were flagged with the recall. However, all ecodiesel motors suffer from the same issue listed in the recall relating to cold weather operation below ambient freezing temperatures. After contacting fca, I was instructed to contact NHTSA to see about getting my VIN number inserted into the recall, as all ecodiesel motors in this range sold in areas frequently below freezing require it. The recall text is available here: Https://www.Chrysler.com/universal/webselfservice/pdf/R51.pdf

While driving on a city street, the truck lost all power and I started coasting to a stop. While slowing down, a loud clicking sound came from the engine bay and I got a "low oil pressure" warning message on the dash. As I was coasting to a stop, smoke started pouring out of the engine compartment and was coming into the cab through the vents. It smelled like coolant. I checked the oil level and it was good. All gauges were in normal temperature ranges. I took it to the dealer, and it is still under powertrain warranty. I have always had the oil changed on time. The dealer informed me that the egr (exhaust gas recirculation) cooler failed. They said it leaked into the intake and the intake needs to be replaced as well for a total cost of about $4500. Ram said that the powertrain warranty does not cover it, which is absurd because the two parts are bolted to the engine and necessary for it to run. Egr cooler failures are very common on Ram 1500 ecodiesels, although Ram does not acknowledge that there is an issue.

Engine in the truck failed while driving down the highway, started loudly knocking and lost power, by the time I was able to get pulled over to the shoulder the cab of the truck filled with smoke, the smoke in the cab was thick enough that it was difficult to see. Eyes were watering and was difficult to breath, the smoke was coming out from under the hood of the truck. I never saw flames but thought truck was on fire due to the amount of smoke so I had my family exit the truck as soon as we were safely on the shoulder out of traffic. The smoke eventually stopped. The dealer that the truck was towed to by roadside assistance indicated that there were currently more than 60 engines on back order in the us with no estimated delivery time on a replacement. There are a large amount of these eco diesel engines failing and some vehicles are catching on fire due to the engine failure causing oil to leak onto the exhaust and igniting. There are numerous reports of the same failure along with engine bay fires on a website dedicated to this particular truck and engine. Https://www.ram1500diesel.com/
