While driving on the freeway pulling a small 16 ft. Camper (I77 nb, mm ~68 in North Carolina), I noticed a loss of engine power and check engine light illuminated along with other warning lights, I tried the accelerator and the engine did not respond. I was able to pull safely onto the shoulder and popped the hood where I noticed flames. I told my family to exit the vehicle and tried to extinguish the flames (with a fire extinguisher from my camper) to no avail. We called 911 and waited for the fire crew to arrive. The vehicle is a complete loss. There is a recall on the vehicle (19V-757) regarding egr issues and potential for engine fire. The vehicle was in the local dealer and had the recall performed on May 18th. The recall was listed as complete and inspected, however after reporting the incident to fca, the status of the recall on my vehicle has been changed to open. Attached you will see photos of the shop visit showing recall completion. I also have a screen shot of the initial VIN look up on 8/8/2020 showing the recall completed, however there is now an update showing the recall as open, updated on 8/17/2020. There were no injuries as a result of this incident, however I was quick to exit the vehicle, observe the fire and tell my family to exit. I reported the incident to fca case [xxx] who have sent out an investigator to the vehicle. Fca today issued me a statement saying the information at hand does not permit them to associate the fire with a manufacturing or assembly error. Given the gravity of the fire, damage to my vehicle and potential injury to people I feel that if the cause cannot be ascertained or corrected it should be reported as a potential safety issue for further investigation. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).'

I almost got T boned/hit by a car when I pulled out into traffic and the truck lagged and finally picked up speed. Then my husband almost got us T boned/hit when he pulled out and the truck lagged again and would not pick up. I had enough time to yell at him to go and he said" I'm trying, I'm pushing the accelerator but it won't go." There was a safe distance in both instances to normally pull out but this truck is a real danger to drive. I thought I was crazy and just trying to get used to the vehicle I had just purchased. Next occurrence, I had my children in the truck with me and we had picked up dinner and milkshakes. I was going up a small hill and the truck lagged, yet again, when it did pick up it spilled the milkshakes in my sons lap. He was extremely disappointed and my daughter was tossed back in the rear seat. This vehicle is dangerous and I totally regret buying it. I feel like this was a huge mistake. To add insult to injury, it had a very loud fan noise that I was concerned about. Now it smells like an antifreeze leak but I can not find it. The temp ran hot and I immediately pulled over. I discovered the antifreeze looked low, we added antifreeze. The oil was just changed by the dealer when I purchased it. No fluids should be low. This was a gigantic mistake of a purchase. Now that I see there is a recall, I assume we will die by getting hit by another vehicle or we will die by fire, take your pick! I was a huge Dodge fan since I owned a 3500 before, this truck can not hold a candle to my old Dodge. I am extremely disappointed in the eco diesel!!

Vehicle having a ticking noise from top of engine after low mileage. There has been many complaints of this kind of problem. It appears the problem is bad manufactured valve & cams. I am concerned that this could cause engine ceased on highway, I have a V6 engine, the manufacture had fixed left side under warranty, but now have the same problem on the right and warranty has expired. I feel this should had been a recall and not warranty due to the manufacture known that they have this problem, there is a lot of the same complaint on the internet, they only repairing it under warranty or not if it fails and not addressing the issue. My issue happen on the highway.

After the recall and new update for fuel mileage rating. There is a delay in the throttle/turbo when applying the gas pedal. This happen when you are between 10mph and 15mph and are at a slow roll and apply the gas. Then all the sudden the truck will take off and rev way up.

Recently complete the aem emissions flash now my truck has a seriously throttle delay up to 7 seconds, I either sluggishly pull into traffic and hope not to get T boned or give myself and passengers whiplash when I have to depress the throttle in order to make the truck move. This occurs every morning and afternoon when going to and leaving work. And throughout day when running errands. Manufacture states this could be caused by the emissions update they performed.

On 10/31/2019, fca issued recall VB1/NHTSA 19V-757, for a possible fire hazzard on 2014- 2019 Ram 1500 trucks with the ecodiesel engine. They did not have a fix for the problem, at that time. In early April of 2020, I recieved another recall notice, stating parts were now available, and to call my dealer, to schedule an appointment to have the recall completed. When I called, the dealer said they didn't have the parts, but were expecting them to be shipped soon. They put me on a waiting list, and said they would call me when the parts arrived. I have called the dealer every month since then, and they still tell me, they can't get the updated parts, to do the recall on my truck. I called, two different fca dealers on 6/18/2020, and I'm getting the same response from them, no parts available. My truck is now, five years old, and has 53K miles, two of these leaking egr coolers, have already been replaced under warranty. I now have a case number with fca, and have been told, my dealer will have my truck repaired somtime in early July. These updated parts were supposed to be availible to fix the 2014 and 2015 trucks.these trucks should have been taken off the road. I should not have to wait this long to have this dangerous safety issue fixed.

Upon pulling out of a parking lot and onto a divided highway attempting to accelerate into traffic the truck made noises and the engine died, leaving me to coast back into the next parking lot entrance while holding up traffic. The failure turned out to be the crank shaft position tone ring. The design of this tone ring is a stamped steel wheel with magnetic material adhered to the rim, it appears that heat and time caused the magnetic material to crack and fail. Once a piece of magnetic material came off, the motor no longer has a proper crank position signal and will stop running. Another design consideration is that the tone ring is inaccessible without removing the transmission and flexplate, this renders it nearly impossible to check the condition of the tone ring to avoid a failure.

On May 31, 2020 I was traveling from baltimore, md to san antonio Texas on ih 85 South near lexington, nc in the middle lane at 60 mph when my vehicle totally shut down to a stop. Traffic was heavy but I safely pulled off to the shoulder and called for roadside assistance. We waited 3 hours before we got a capable tow for the truck and the U-haul we were towing. The tow company towed my truck to M&L Chrysler Dodge Ram dealership in lexington nc. The next morning about 8:00 am, I called the Chrysler Dodge Ram dealership for the results of their diagnostics. Around 11:00am I called back to Chrysler Dodge Ram dealership. They informed me they think the problem was with the fuel system and they needed to order the parts and it would take a few days and that it would be covered under the emissions recall V08 warranty.

Exhaust manifold bolts are continuously breaking off creating health and environmental concerns. Exhaust manifold gases are leaking directly into engine bay around the passenger compartment. Unfiltered exhaust gases are bypassing the catalytic converters and passing straight to the atmosphere. Chrysler is refusing to address the situation and charging thousands of dollars to fix it every time it breaks. The issue also throws the vehicle computer into an open loop due to faulty O2 readings negatively impacting fuel and performance causing further pollution and emissions negatively impacting environment and health of occupants. After charging thousands of dollars to 'fix' the issue they merely replace broken parts with the exact type and material that failed previously. The manifold/exhaust issue is independent of any vehicle motion or driving condition. Running the engine in any condition will cause the failure due to dissimilar metals used and difference in metals movement as it heats and cools. Presently this is the 10th bolt broke off. It has happened repeatedly since owning vehicle.

I received a recall from fca recall VB1. I called the dealer on May 15th. They said to bring it in on Monday May 18th. I called on Monday and they told me they had no parts until June 1st. I called on June 1st to schedule an appointment and he told me there are no parts until June 12th!. this recall identifies that the egr cooler can leak coolant into the motor that could cause a vehicle fire. In the last 8 weeks I have put in 6 gallons of coolant.this is the only vehicle I have to commute to work in.I do not need lip service I need it fixed now!

NHTSA 19V-757 was issued for the referenced VIN 24oct19. I had an egr cooler failure on 27aug19 the egr cooler was replaced by grapevine Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep Ram with the attached part number before the recall was issued, and was the only part available at the time. I recieved notice of the recall 24oct19 and learned the redesigned part would not be available until April 2020. As of this week, fca indicates this recall as being completed on my vehicle. The new redesigned egr cooler has never been installed on my truck. After posting this to a Ram ecodiesel forum, I have found out that this has happened to many other Ram ecodiesel owners that have been issued the recall, and now have been marked complete without the recall being performed. The defect related to this recall resulted in vehicle fires in many instances, and could pose a threat of serious injury or death. I appears to me that fca is trying to get out of performing this safety related recall.

Per the ecodiesel settlement I had the upgrades done on my truck. After the upgrade there was noticeable loss of power and throttle response. There were many occasions where the truck was unsafe to drive due to loss of power when merging into traffic from a stop or when accelerating to merge onto a highway. I had to trade in the vehicle due to the fact that a safe vehicle is required for my job. I mentioned to my local Ram dealer where I had the aem upgrade done and they said that there was nothing they could do about it, that many Ram owners were complaining about the power loss and throttle response. Even though I traded in the truck, this needs to be addressed. Had this been how the vehicle performed from day, I never would've purchased it. I feel that fca was never honest and upfront with vehicle owners of the ecodiesel engines.

In May 2019, Ram released the V08 recall as part of an aem due to emissions complaints. After having this recall done, my driveability and acceleration has become unsafe. Trying to turn onto a feeder road or merge into traffic is basically dangerous. Often, it seems to have a "dead pedal." I can push the gas pedal and often able to count to 3 before the truck actually begins to move smoothly.

Manufacturer recall number VB1 NHTSA recall number 19V-757 recall status recall incomplete, remedy not yet available if the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at: 1-888-327-4236 or tty: 1-800-424-9153 or file an online complaint with NHTSA. So per NHTSA recommendations, shown above, we are filing an online complaint since the manufacture (again per above) does not have a remedy. The exhaust gas recirculation (egr) cooler on your truck [1] may be susceptible to thermal fatigue. Thermal fatigue may cause the cooler to crack internally over time. An egr cooler with an internal crack will introduce pre-heated, vaporized coolant to the egr system while the engine is running. In certain circumstances, this mixture interacts with other hydrocarbons and air in the system, potentially resulting in combustion within the intake manifold, which may lead to a vehicle fire. A vehicle fire may increase the risk of injury to occupants and persons outside of the vehicle, as well as property damage.
