  • 10,000 miles
I'm having an issue with the steering on my new 2019 Ram 1500 new body laramie longhorn. I now have 10,000 miles on the vehicle. I noticed this when I first obtained delivery. Most of my driving has been on rather straight roads with a few curves. I'm in Colorado on the East side of the mountains. This week we took a trip up into the mountains. Took some back roads and off the interstate driving. Drove about 12 hours. When turning the wheel to the right for a curve in the road, the steering wheel centers correctly, as all vehicles would that are aligned properly. However, a left hand curve at just about any speed, has a catch in it. It will want to continue turning left even after I'm out of the curve. It's as if there's a high spot in a round gear or a tight cog in a gear. I have to put pressure on the wheel to pull it back. I've had the alignment checked. I mentioned something to the dealer after first noticing it, and he suggested the button that will pull back the wheel when the truck wanders out of the lane. But, it will do that when it's in function or when I disable it. The steering, I've been told, is not mechanical but electronic. I've driven trucks all my life, having a class 1 license years ago. 18 wheelers, etc.. I'm 75. Never had this issue with any vehicle. This is dangerous' my wife could not drive this vehicle. It would freak her out. Having to pull the vehicle out of a turn when it's trying to go into oncoming traffic.

After traveling at highway speeds, approximately 70 mph, for 10 to 20 minutes the steering will stick at around the 1100 to 1000 O'clock position during left hand turns on interstates. If left alone the steering will not realign at the 12 O'clock position and vehicle will continue to veer left. You must manually steer right past a noticeable detent in the steering path to return the wheel to correct position. The longer you drive the more noticeable the sticking becomes and more force is required to bring the wheel back to center. As the force requirement increases the increase of overcorrections occurs. This is quickly becoming very dangerous. Of note is the fact this will not occur below highway speeds even after traveling at highway speeds for 20 minutes. Once you go below 60 the malfunction will not duplicate. This vehicle has had all required recall repairs for ground cable prior to purchase. Maintenance appointment with dealer is set within the week.

The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. While driving at night, the entire instrument panel illuminated and the power steering failed. The contact was able to pull over as the brakes were malfunctioning. The contact kept trying to turn off the vehicle and the instrument panel indicators kept flashing. After fifteen minutes, the vehicle finally started up and functioned normally while the indicators were still flashing. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact to call NHTSA. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 8,000.

While my 2019 Ram 1500 is in motion, it has a pull / drift to the right. The pull / drift to the right occurs when lightly holding the steering wheel or momentarily letting go of the steering wheel. The pull / drift to the right occurs on all types of road surfaces. The grade of the road does impact the pull / drift as it is exaggerated with a steeper rightward grade, however it will drive straight if the road has a slight leftward grade. With a mild rightward grade, I have to put a little leftward pressure on the steering wheel to keep it from veering right. This occurs at speeds of 10 to 80mph on city streets and highways. If the driver gets distracted for a moment, the vehicle will unintentionally change lanes or pull the vehicle off the road. I have had it serviced and the alignment checked 4 times at corwin Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in fargo, nd and they tell me the alignment is within spec and there is nothing else they can do. Tire pressure is equal in all four tires. The service manager states a rightward pull is characteristic of new vehicles. I do not believe my vehicle, nor any anyone else's, should be pulling to the right and potentially causing a motor vehicle crash. The truck should drive straight with the exception of outside influences such as steep road grades, high cross winds, etc.

When driving for about one hour when turning to the left the steering sticks and I have to manually bring it to center. It will not return to center unless I turn it to the right. Its entertainment and ive had it into the dealership meny times. This is very dangerous and may lose control by overcompensating for it. I have had all the updates and recalls performed on the truck but nothing has resolved the problem. Doge needs to address this issues asap.

While steering left and right, the power steering seems to intermittently go out, it happens off and on, and you have to hold on tightly to the steering wheel or you will loose control, I took it to the dealer and they tell me it is normal for this truck which I strongly disagreed with them, a new truck or any new car does not just loose steering

Purchased truck in Dec 2018. About a month in around 2000 miles started experiencing the steering wheel sticking around the 11:00 position at highway speeds. I drive 1500 to 2000 miles a month and afraid I am going to overcorrect especially in heavy traffic. Spoke with dealership and they do not have a solution for the problem. Had the recall taken care of on the battery cable and this did not correct the issue either. Feels like a problem in the steering linkage. I have also started noticing which feels like the truck is starting to float side to side and am having to correct to keep it in the lane. This truck does not have lane assist on it so that could not be the problem.

When vehicle is at highway speed and going into left hand corners, the steering wheel sticks if you go past the ten O clock position. Purchased 2019 Ram 1500 around 9/8/2018 one week after having it the steering wheel started sticking only when turning to the left at highway speeds. Since then the problem has greatly increased. This does it as stated on sweeping turns on the interstate or highway speeds only. I have to jerk the steering wheel back to the right in a hard motion to get the truck going back straight after these turns. This is scary and causes the truck to sway at such speeds. There was a recall on the steering however this did not correct the issue. It is currently in its 4th trip to the dealership for repair. This has been going on for 9 months without being corrected. It is to the point I have parked the truck as I do not feel safe in driving it.

Steering sticks when turning left on curvy roads and the truck feels like its straddling a hump, this happens while driving at speeds from 5 to 40 miles an hour so far. I just picked the truck up brand new from the dealer, I will be contacting dealer to see if I can get service as soon as possible, I looked up this problem on the web, and found a few others on Ram forum.com with the same problem, after several visits to the dealer the dealer replaced the steering rack which seemed to resolve there problem. The steering seems to stick while in a slight left turn and doesn't want to return to center, unless I apply more pressure to turn back to straight. Also the truck feels a little wobbly, and like its straddling a hump in the road, turns to the right are fine it has no problem going right just left. Consumer state the answer to did it take force to return the wheel back to center is not much force, maybe a pound or two of force. The other question about any warning lights or buzzers is nothing completely silent.

Since purchase my 2019 Ram truck has lots of issues with the 12 inch screen. It controls everything on the truck. The screen goes blank all the time and you are not able to control any thing on the truck, steps, air condition, heat etc.... when the screen acts up the auto retractable running boards stay out until around 15 mph. Also the ac and heat will automatically come on and you cant shut if off, no controls will work. I have 27 videos of my truck not working right and all dealer says is sorry we cant duplicate. The steering is also always off. The steering wheel gets off to the left then goes off to the right. Dealer states it takes 500 miles for it to auto align it self to re learn center.
