Service Electronic Brake and ABS lights flash on with dash chime indicating failure while operating the vehicle. No code stored. Intermittent issue - after reading other complaints it appears that this is a serious issue across all Ram owners. Dealer indicated that numerous truck owners are having the same issues and that currently parts are not available. Service tech advised me that the vehicles ABS may fail while operating.

ABS malfunction indicator lamp, service ABS system and service electronic braking system message intermittently coming on. Sometimes for a short period of time and sometimes stay on for entire trip. Causes cruise control and traction control to be immobilized. My safety is at risk due to the ABS and traction control not being functional. I have not had it diagnosed by a dealer yet, however there are hundreds if not thousands of people on Ram forums complaining of the same issues without Ram taking care of the fix and the costs are on the vehicle owners. Its not something like a radio is having issues, its the braking system, which I would think that RAM or FCA and the NHTSA would think is a pretty serious problem with these vehicles.

SERVICE ELECTRONIC BRAKE SYSTEM AND ABS WARNINGS, BOTH VISIBLE AND AUDIBLE. THE EFFECT OF THE MODULE FAILURE ON BRAKES AND SAFETY IS UNKNOWN. THE WARNINGS CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME, WHEN STARTING VEHICLE, OR WHEN DRIVING. SOMETIMES THE WARNINGS SUBSIDE BUT SEEM TO BE TRIGGERED EASILY BY HITTING A SMALL BUMP ON THE ROAD WHILE MOVING. Currently Dealer can not fix as the part is backordered. (Sept 2021)

The Hydraulic Control Unit and the Anti-lock brake module on my 2017 Ram 2500 Diesel truck is going out. It has 84,000 miles on this truck. This is very costly to repair and Ram knows it is a problem! It is also very dangerous for the brakes to be an issue on any vehicle, but especially on one that has a heavy front end as diesel trucks do. The braking system must be reliable to stop the truck itself. This truck was built and designed to pull trailers and as a work truck. It is very dangerous to consider that these 2 components are not working when pulling a loaded trailer which depends on the braking system as well to stop the vehicle. I am also enclosing several websites to show you that Ram knows there is a problem but hasn't issued a recall on the problem. One of these sites is a Ram forum that shows many people are dealing with this issue. https://www.ramforumz.com/threads/abs-hcu-replacement.276340/ https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/forums/3rd-generation-ram-non-drivetrain-all-years-101/abs-cab-hcu-replacement-218820/ Thank you for your time! Service electronic brake system and ABS warnings, both visible and audible. Dealer replaced ABS module under warranty for first occurrence at approx 23000 miles. Occurred again at approx 40000 miles and diagnosed as same issue agin at independent shop. This resulted in a $900 replacement of the same module. The effect of the the module failure on brakes and safety is unknown to me. The warnings can happen at any time, when starting vehicle, or when driving. Sometimes the warnings subside but seem to be triggered easily by hitting a small bump on the road while moving.

After approximately 8K miles my 2017 Ram 2500 intermittently had the traction control light and ABS light illuminate. At first it would only temporarily flicker and chime, bventually the code/lights remained in the system. When this occurs cruise control is not available. I'm not sure if the ABS or traction control systems operate. After multiple visits to the dealership the issue was located and the ABS module and hydraulic motor control were replaced. Everything has operated properly until the last couple weeks, which is 2 years and 3 months later, with 19.8K miles. After starting the truck and letting off the brake the ABS/traction control lights flashed and then it didn't reoccur for several days. Then as time went on and bumpier roads were encountered it would happen more frequently, sometimes several times per minute. This felt exactly like what I had experienced previously. Then it was back to the dealer where the code was traced to C0020 - ABS pump motor control - general electrical failure. So again, the ABS module and hydraulic motor control needed replacement. After a handful of miles things are back to normal.

My 2017 Ram 2500 had 55K miles when I got a dashboard warning indicating that service of my electronic braking system was needed. I also got warning indicators for ABS and traction control. I had poor braking, no traction control and no cruise control when these warning lights were lit. The dealer diagnosed and replaced the ABS hydraulic control unit (hcu), costing me $750. My research reveals that this is a common problem with this truck at various levels of mileage, and Ram/fca has restricted the distribution of the hcus in recognition of this problem. Ram refuses to acknowledge that this is a product defect. I've owned many other brands of vehicles (BMW, Toyota, Honda), with varying levels of mileage, and none of them have every experienced a failure in ABS components. Ram/fca should acknowledge that these components have a manufacturer's defect and reimburse clients who paid to have the parts replaced.

While driving my vehicle at approximately 35 miles per hour a vehicle turn in front of my vehicle and I depressed the brakes. The vehicle shutdown and was abandoned in the roadway due to loss of power. Vehicles behind me conducted evasive maneuvers narrowly missing my vehicle due to the defective product. I was able to determine the vehicle was equipped with a faulty fuel pump and it had broken into several pieces inside the fuel tank. This issue has been documented with Chrysler; however, they do not see it as a safety issue. Clearly loss of power while operating a vehicle on a busy roadway is a definite safety issue. This issue needs to be rectified before people are killed or injured. I lost power in brakes and steering.

Brake pedal goes to the floor only while at slow speeds and stopped. Ram stated its normal for truck to have soft brakes when stopped or slower driving. With the soft pedal sinking to the it seems to be a safety factor as it don't have full braking pressure to hold the vehicle still while on an incline. Oddly if you put the vehicle in neutral the brakes begin working again. Many forums online have reported this issue but it seems mopar isn't concerned about the safety aspect and the importance of brakes.

Driving 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 on paved rural roadway traveling 50mph when steering wheel lost tension and would not steer appropriately. Vehicle began to lose traction and correction was not possible. While when driver attempted to brake, brake pedal was pressed firmly and did not brake. Vehicle maintained speed due to brake failure and steering, vehicle went into side skid for 100 yards before hitting deep ditch and rolling vertically into ditch landing on wheels. Accident resulted in injuries to both driver and passenger.

Service antilock brake system and traction control error while driving. First started shortly after repair for steering recall (required welding) in December 2019, vehicle miles ~23,500. This would occur without warning, irrelevant to road, weather conditions. The issue persisted, comes and goes, progressively getting worse over time. Took in to dealer for service. Dealer indicated that the hydraulic control unit is defective and needs replacing, work order states direct ground fault. Part on order. I believe the cause is when they welded the jamb nut for the active recall, by grounding the negative lead to the chassis without disconnecting the batteries before arc welding. Based on previous complaints posted on this site and others, the common denominator is starts occurring shortly after the recall is completed.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at about 75 mph, on cruise control and accelerated to overtake another vehicle, the throttle stuck without warning. He managed to pull the vehicle to the side and putting it in neutral, and was able to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that too much pressure was put on the brakes and caused the front and rear brakes to burn amid heavy smoke. The vehicle was towed to the larry H. miller Jeep dealer (8525 lomas blvd ne, albuquerque, nm 87110) where it was diagnosed that oil was overfilled and got into the crankcase. The technician cleaned the crankcase, installed new rotors and brake pads. The contact was informed about the recall, NHTSA campaign number: 18V332000 (electrical system, vehicle speed control) by an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure the vehicle was repaired except the cruse control. The failure mileage was 48,630.

When driving the vehicle, the ABS and traction control lights simultaneously activate, bells start ringing and a notification in the display screen. The issue started in October of 2019 when still in warranty. The dealer could not find a problem and claimed no codes. Starting in December 2019 the issue started more regular, the dealer could not get us in at that time. Then the issue quit for a period of time. It has now gotten to be a regular issue and stays active more then not. Occurs mostly driving in just about any condition and speed, has occurred a few times when the vehicle is stationary. The local dealer tells us it is regular occurrence on this type of vehicle. Parts are actually a dealer limited item and not in stock. It has now gotten to where my wife does not want to drive the vehicle. We are working with fca to get some assistance. The dealer tells it need the ABS pump (hcu) and controller. $880 for what appears to be defective safety part. Vehicle was at the dealer 3/30/2020 current mileage: 46579 note: We have heard from others in this area with the same type of failure and internet searches reveal dozens. We are very happy with the truck and just hope fca/Ram does due diligence and takes care of the problem.

For the past month, I have had intermittent displays of "service electronic braking system" and "service antilock brake system". when this occurs, the cruise control becomes nonoperational. A check of the internet shows that these problems are widely experienced by Dodge Ram owners. The display comes on whether sitting or driving.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500 diesel. The contact stated that the ABS indicator illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an unknown dealer before the 36,000 mile warranty expired in approximately June of 2019. The dealer inspected the vehicle, reset the traction control indicator, changed the fluids, and stated that the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred the vehicle was taken to riser Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Fiat (4722 central ave, hot springs, ar 71913, (501) 500-5285) on September 21, 2019 where it was diagnosed that the ABS hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that there was a national backorder for the part and it was a major issue for those vehicles. The vehicle had not been repaired and was still being driven by the contact. The contact left a voice message with the manufacturer and had not been called back. The failure mileage was 39,100.

Intermittent mil for ABS and electronic braking system, became more frequent over 1-2 weeks while waiting for appointment at dealership (out of town). Day of the appointment, mil came on and stayed on. Dealer read codes and stated 'internal codes found, replace pump and module' then informed me parts were on 'national backorder' vehicle has 46,500 miles at time of failure.

June 26th 2019 my truck felt like it shifted into 4WD on its own, later that day I lost ABS, traction control and cruise control. It went to the dealership where it took 3 days to diagnose. Was informed that ABS pump and ABS control module need to be replaced and the part is not currently available. Further research of internet forums shows this is a known problem and does not appear to be addressed properly. I am still waiting for my truck to be repaired and there is a warranty on it. Dealership allowed me to pickup the truck without the repair and did not provide receipts or work orders because I did not have any other transportation. In heavy rain the truck has become quite dangerous to drive.
