Last year on October 7, 2022 I finally had the pleasure to buy a 2017 ram 2500 6.4 Hemi. My first decent truck for my birthday and not have to worry about having to repair it and have a reliable vehicle for work. Everything was going good had made a few family trips with nothing to worry about. Fast forward to September 29, 2023 I started to hear a small noise on the engine bay a slit tick that when the engine would warm up it would go away so I really didn't pay attention to it.
Coming back from another family trip from San Antonio Texas I stopped briefly to gas up the tick got a lot louder making my family panic thinking we were stranded miles away from home. I let the engine cool down double checked the oil making sure it had enough to make it home I prayed to GOD to watch over me and my family to make it home and we did safely. I contacted my nearest dealership made and appointment to have it checked out. Few days later I was contacted by dealership my VVT solenoid had metal shaving and I needed a new engine. I was quoted 15K for a new crate motor as to which Chrysler and Fiat recommend doing. I told them I don't have 15K for new motor I just bought the truck it barely has 1 year. What are my options to which they stated buy a used motor for around 5 to 7K with no warranty I said absolutely not there has to be another way. The gentleman said they seen worst engines get a fresh rebuild new cam lifters gaskets complete motor flush to get rid of all the shavings for around 5K with 2 years warranty.
I am currently waiting for them to call me and let me know my truck fixed and ready to go. This 5K will come out of pocket I opted out on any warranty thinking I wouldn't need them so soon. I hope this big companies can take some sort of responsibility selling used cars without any warranties and sell them as is as we the consumers take a big risk buying cars / trucks and not having to pay extra for warranties where for them its all about making money. Its been a frustrating experience and having to pay a lot of money for a truck I don't even own yet. Hope my experience can help someone thinking about making a purchase on a used car with no warranties think very hard if its worth it or just go with a new car or truck. If there's anyone that went threw the same thing or if they came to an agreement with the dealership about payment DM me and tell me your experience and how you solved the problem. THANK YOU
