July 11, 2024 Message alert appeared indash with instructions to service ABS system. This vehicle experienced the exact same issue in April of 2022 and was taken to the dealer(Patterson Dodge-Tyler, TX) for repair, where the ABS Module was replaced. The replacement was not covered by the warranty.

Vehicles anti-lock brake, traction control systems become inoperable. Automaker is aware of the HCU and ABS defect, they have failed to recall affected vehicles or offer another remedy. Braking becomes much more difficult and a ram pickup becomes tougher to control without these systems, especially in dangerous road conditions caused by rain.

ABS light come on and the service antilock brake system light comes on and NO cruise control, happening all the time so NO ABS systems and in south dakota that is a big problem and no parts for 8 months now comes on when you hit a bump all the time 68 times driving 50 miles

Truck will flash warnings and dinging indicating that the anti-lock brakes and traction control has failed. Sometimes it'll stay that way and other times it will cycle multiple times. Like 20 times in a minute where the ABS and TCS are kicking on and off. Dangerous to have the brakes work like they're supposed to at random. It did this before in July of 2021, Scott Wood Dealership in Arkansas replaced the abs module/hcu. It is now doing it again, same symptoms.

My ABS light sporadically comes on and off. Dealership says it is the HCU module. It was replaced under warranty in 2020 and now has failed again. Wanting to file report so it is noted to help with initiating a recall on this failing part. I have read that the ABS module has also had similars issues with no recall as of to date either.

Day after purchasing my used 2018 ram the abs light and traction control started dinging continuously. Brought back to dealer they say there is no fix at this time. Abs control module and hcu need changed/repair but there are no parts available for fix. So now I have to pay/drive for truck that brake system /traction control does not work properly. Please do a recall on the and make them fix!! There are so many specifically 2018 ram models that have this issue. When you could purchase the part it was $1000 fix and no guarantee how long it would last. I believe dealer knew this issue and cleared code before I arrived.

ABS Module was not replaced as part was on back order. Dealer noted usual procedure is to replace HCU and ABS Module. Dealer noted code C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control - General Electrical Failure. At 24,923 miles, vehicle again displayed ABS Warning. Dealer found Code C0020-10 General ABS Pump Electrical Failure. Dealer replaced HCU. Dealer noted ABS warning is serious and vehicle should be repaired immediately. The safety of my family has been put at risk on multiple occasions. Problem has been confirmed and acknowledged by dealer. Problem has not been investigated by others.

HCU failed today 07/08/24. Service Electronic Brake System light comes on and off, traction control/abs malfunction indicator lights comes on and off constantly. Kicked cruise control off while traveling highway speeds causing a rapid deceleration to occur. Can't get in to dealership until July 17 to have it looked at. No other indicators/malfunction lights/codes came on prior to 07/08/24.

Twice while going up a hill in the rain I was changing lanes and the cruise cut out causing the vehicle to slow down rapidly and kick out in the back. The cruise abruptly stops when the -??service electronic braking system-?? and -??service abs-?? lights and dinging come on. Apparently this also stops the traction control from working. Looking on the internet and forums, this is a very common issue. In fact, there is safety recalls on later model Rams with the same issue on the same parts. Why not the models that this started with?

Everytime I press the brake pedal I am now receiving a "service electronic braking system." It is not every so often. It is every single time I press it. I have started researching this and there are thousands of other owners having the same problem that own the same truck as I do. They are also saying that every dealership either turns them away because they can't find the problem or they are giving conflicting reasons why it's happening and/or the part they say is the problem is on a massive, estensive backorder that could be months that sometimes fixes the problem for only a few months and have spent $1500 to $2500 depending on the location. They are also saying to report it to the NHTSA to make Ram fix the problem since it is so widespread across the nation.

C0020--01 ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - GENERAL ELECTRIC FAILURE. Available for inspection. Safety of self and others is at risk in ABS brake failure. Independent service center has confirmed problem. Vehicle/component has not been inspected by mfg, police, insurance, or others (besides independent service center). Intermittent warning lamps and chimes began in June, 2024, approx 65k miles on the vehicle. My understanding is that this is a common issue, faulty component and also involves the Hydraulic Control Unit ("HCU"). These are expensive components and labor. Expense for repair/replacement should be covered by manufacturer.
