Took it to dealership to have problem addressed and service worker said this was his sixth 2018 Ram 2500/3500 in his dealership to have the HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT and ANTI LOCK BRAKE module to malfunction. FCA should have a recall on this, but as of now they don't. Parts are back ordered and won't be in for months. Dealership told me it's fine to drive as is but I'd rather not take my chances. While traveling down a road in Palatka, FL, going 70mph, I experienced my truck disengage from cruise control and violently lock up the rear tires during wet road conditions. Shortly after the cruise control disengaged, an intermittent ABS and Traction control light illuminated. After bringing my vehicle to a certified auto shop, I was informed that the ABS Pump (Hydraulic Control Unit) OEM Part# 68143491AB was found to be at fault. I was told that the part would not be available until January 18th, 2023. After completing some research online, I found numerous people have reported the same problem I was having and also dealing with part delays. The Anti-Lock-Brake and traction control systems are both integral to the safe operation of the vehicle. Without the systems functioning properly I put my life and others at risk. I hope this issue gets looked at seriously and can be resolved promptly. People's lives are at stake.

The ABS on my vehicle malfunctioned and the warning lights appeared on about 8/1/2022. The mechanic pulled the error code C0020-01 ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - GENERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE. His research indicates the solution is to replace both the ABS Control Module and the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit at the same time. As replacing one without the other seems to lead to additional unnecessary and costly repairs to the same part. After contacting every Ram dealer in my area, there are no ABS Control Modules available anywhere. I then checked the internet and it appears that the ABS CM (part# 68347098AB) is not available anywhere with over 2500 on backorder at a single RAM dealership in Texas. It appears that there are many thousands of RAM owners with the same problem and the lack of a replacement part is troubling. The ABS system in vehicles is a BASIC safety feature and a malfuctioning ABS will undoubable lead to crashes and possibly deaths. As a owner of an affected vehicle, I request that you investigate this problem and force RAM to ensure that their vehicles are equipped with the basic safety features that are required by law.

HCU failing. Blinks on display screen. Appears then disappears. When in cruise control and the HCU goes haywire, kicks cruise control off unexpectedly. When this occurs and the driver isn't expecting it, this causes panic because the vehicle rapidly slows down, nearly causing a vehicle collision if not prepared for it. I was almost rear ended due to this. Research on this failure would reveal this issue to be affecting 1000's of 2018 RAM trucks to have this problem. My local Dodge dealer advised I am approximately the 2500th person waiting on the part which is currently on BACKORDER. Have been a Police Officer for 15 years, safe driver and this nearly caused an accident on 695 Baltimore County, MD during heavy traffic.

The truck ABS, traction control, and service electric brake lights and warnings have flashed and beeped on and off and on and off every few seconds. I took the truck to the dealer to be fixed under warranty. The dealer states it has a bad HCU and no longer has anti lock brakes however I can still drive the truck with all that distraction going on in the dash. The part is on back order and I won-??t have my truck repaired until February (2.5 months) This same part was also replaced a a little over year ago under warranty along with Abs sensors and wire harnesses. I have 2 friends with the same year trucks who also had to have the same repair done. Upon looking up information on the internet it seems like this has been a on going issue on the 4th generation ram trucks 1500-3500 models from 2012-2018 I feel the safety of this could cause a car accident by the distraction of the dash going nuts and the possibility of a vehicle skid while not having anti lock brakes properly working. I would hate to drive it putting my life as well as others drivers and passengers lives in the line due to this safety issue ram is having. The issue happens randomly some times non stop while driving and sometimes I can drive 15 miles or so with nothing then it will start again. It first happened when I had approximately 50,000 miles on the truck and has done it again at 73,500 miles. When the lights are on it will not allow cruise control to work or 4x4 to engage. I have not noticed anything else not working properly.

I received a message regarding ABS failure. I had it checked an the OBD and it showed an active C0020-01 code. This is a widespread problem with this vehicle. So much so that FCA issued a bulletin dated 4/28/20, case # S2005000004. Parts are not available. The manufacturer should be held responsible for selling a clearly deficient product. Inoperative ABS is a serious safety issue and should be corrected immediately.

As I drive the vehicle, the dashboard makes a "ding" sound and the anti-lock brakes and the traction control lights come on. The display reads "Service Anti-lock Brakes". This also causes the cruise control to disengage. The cruise control cannot be set while the two lights are on on the dash. Sometimes the lights stay on for a while. At other times, the lights cycle on and off (and the ding sounds) every few seconds.

My truck was diagnosed with a faulty ABS pump assembly by a reputable repair shop. I understand by looking on the Web, that this is a common with this year and model truck. The dealer/manufacturer has no safety recall for this problem. As you know, the ABS helps the vehicle steer properly in an emergency braking situation by restoring traction to the tires. Loosing traction will shorten the stopping distance or lose control of the vehicle. In view of this, I do not understand why this component is not considered a safety issue. The ABS control module has begun failing sporadically while the vehicle is running. When this happens is disables the traction control system and the ABS system until the alarm clears, and if the vehicles cruise control is on, it immediately disengages. All of these symptoms deteriorate the safety margin of the vehicle, and cause mid-driving malfunctions that can be unpredictable. When the module is malfunctions both the ABS warning light and TCS warning light are illuminated and a text warning is displayed on the multifunction display of the gauge cluster. The contact found that the parts to rectify this issue are being rationed by Stellantis, leading to unacceptable lead times in simply procuring the parts. When added to the shop rates charged to fix this issue, the price of replacing this clearly defective component begins to total in the thousands of dollars. Therefore, in order to continue his profession and responsibly take care of my liabilities, operating a four-ton vehicle with a compromised braking system and have done so for two years now. In addition, the ABS Malfunction Indicator chimes repeatedly while driving, creating an endlessly distracting environment.

Our Indicator warning light ABS light was coming on back in May 2022...ABS and traction control lights were coming on. We took the truck to the dealership and paid $223.58 for a diagnosis. The part wasn't covered under our power train warranty, so the warranty department did a goodwill payment for the repair. We had to wait approx 2 months for them to get the part in as there were so many other people waiting for it (I was told about 1100). they did the work finally in July, they said it was fixed. At that time we had 17,730 miles on it.... When we left the dealership the light started to come back on. I tried to reach the warranty dept at Dodge but they didn't return my phone calls. We took it back into the dealership and told them it wasn't fixed and the light is still coming on. We were charged another $223.58 diagnosis fee. They then said that the ABS control unit and module need replaced and the system flushed at a cost of $1993.70. I called the dodge warranty dept and explained my situation. They escalated my complaint and denied us any help. I complained to the dodge dealer that the truck was misdiagnosed the first time we brought it in, and they claim it is a different issue with the same part.....but yet the same symptom. I know that Dodge knows there is an issue with this and should issue a recall.

The ABS system fails to operate when braking causing skidding and loss of control under hard braking/wet/ slick conditions. The ABS light and the Traction Control light are illuminated and warning dings when the abs system malfunctions. This is incredibly dangerous to a vehicle that can tow a combined G.V.W.R of 24K Lbs. The Dealers are aware of the problem and the manufacturer states that they know of the issue but are not being forced to or have any knowledge of a recall for this failure. There are several forums about this and even had Chrysler/Fiat/Ram truck care involved in the forums about the issue but declines any issue for safety and to keep driving it or bring it in to have repaired at the owner's expense. I feel this is a safety issue with the braking system and needs to be forced on the company to remedy the issues at their expense. I work for Daimler Trucks North America and if this was an issue with a Tractor/Trailer, then it would be a recall to be repaired. People's lives are in danger when you have a heavy vehicle that does not have the proper braking safety features working as they are required to install per your standards. If you require it, it should be operational for the safety of all people on the road.
