I am reporting a recurring safety defect involving hydraulic lifter failure in Ram trucks equipped with the Cummins diesel engine (model years 2019-?"2024). This issue is widely acknowledged by Stellantis and multiple dealers. It typically begins with a knocking sound and has been documented in many cases to progress to complete engine failure. My vehicle has fewer than 20,000 miles. The lifters were already replaced once, which required the cab to be removed. Within less than 400 miles of that repair, the knocking sound has returned. I brought the truck to a second dealer, who confirmed the problem and informed me that Stellantis has an active STAR case acknowledging the defect. They stated there is currently no known permanent fix. This defect presents a serious safety concern. Sudden engine failure while driving, especially under load or at highway speeds, could lead to loss of power, loss of steering/braking assist, and potential accidents. In my situation, I frequently travel with family members who have medical conditions, and being stranded in hazardous or remote conditions poses significant risk. At this point, my vehicle is not reliable or safe to operate. I am requesting NHTSA investigate the hydraulic lifter defect in 2019-?"2024 Ram Cummins trucks due to the safety implications and the lack of an available permanent repair.

Truck has had lifters replaced due to tick, sluggish performance and engine vibration. Truck was driven less then 500 miles and problem re-occurred. With research I have learned this is a widespread problem, and ram techs have reported complained there is no fix, and they are just reinstalling parts that will fail again. I feel the engine has had metal ran through it which in my opinion could cause this engine to seize up at. T tow a larch travel trailer with my family an and small pets in this vehicle.i live in the Desert where temperatures reach in the 120s. I can-??t have a vehicle that could stop running leave myself and my family in a situation where the truck stops running, to be either hit by another vehicle or on the road side broken down. Problem was documented at 17000 miles and still under the 3 year 36 warranty.

Engine had a tick, dealer said it was lifters. Dealer replaced lifters after having the truck for three weeks. Noise is back 2022 ram 6.7 with 17000 miles. This issue could cause engine failure at any speed and I use this truck to pull a large travel trailer. I-??m concerned the noise is back and putting metal shavings into the engine will cause catastrophic engine failure at some point.

The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor on my 2022 Ram 2500 failed, causing multiple system malfunctions. It triggered inaccurate Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) codes and showed abnormally high idle hours that do not reflect actual vehicle use. This defect is tied to a known issue identified by Stellantis in Technical Service Bulletin #18-002-24, which acknowledges improper MAF sensor calibration or compatibility on vehicles like mine. The bulletin was verbally confirmed by the dealership as applying to my truck. This faulty sensor caused emissions system errors, degraded engine performance, and may impact emissions compliance. There was a persistent check engine light, reduced fuel economy, and the risk of engine derating. The problem was reproduced and confirmed by Encore Chrysler (Mobile, AL), an authorized Ram dealership. Stellantis has agreed to cover the repair under Goodwill, but the issue appears systemic. Safety was potentially compromised by inaccurate sensor data that may cause sudden engine derate or failure during operation. Additionally, the incorrect idle hour readings could affect warranty determinations and long-term diagnostics if not corrected. The check engine light first appeared on May 21, 2024. The vehicle has been out of service since May 22, 2024, and repairs are still pending. The MAF sensor and affected systems are available for inspection upon request. This issue may affect a broader set of Ram 2500 trucks, and given the manufacturer-??s internal bulletin, it may merit a recall review.

5th gen ram with the 6.7 Cummins diesel have a massive problem with lifters. Extremely common for trucks with under 10k miles needing the extensive repair done. I-??ve read in some cases people whole motors breakdown due to this failure while on the highway pulling a load. My specific truck had to have all the lifters replaced at 76k miles. There needs to be a manufacture recall on these.

This is a safety recall ISSUE, I continue to have a problem with this dealer (Hunter Dodge in Lancaster ca) on resolving 3 safety recalls on my 2022 Ram 2500 I have been on the dealers waiting list for 8 months now. Recently I received a call from Chrysler Co. that the dealer had the parts inhouse and I should call the dealer (Hunter Dodge in Lancaster ca) to set up an appointment. I called the person who is responsible at the dealership to get an appointment, she stated there was no reason for the appointment because she did not have the parts to fix my truck and hung up the phone. I received a call from Chrysler saying the parts are at the dealer, and yet when I call they continue to say the parts are not in. I am planning to go out of town with my family soon and I am VERY worried about this being a SAFTEY issue for 8 months now. I wonder if this problem qualifies as a 'Lemon Law' issue or any other action?, I hope you can help resolve this issue. Service def see dealer and max 5mph in 150 miles. Traveling on I-40 from East Tn heading home. 225 miles to go. On a Friday afternoon. Called dealers in area none could look at it until Monday. Stressing about possibility of going into derate at 5mph on interstate and getting rear ended. Had to rent a car and take to a dealer 160 miles from home. Spoiled my vacation because of a false warning about def level. All that was wrong was the code needed to be cleared.
