Crosstrek 2.01 P 4 Cyc

  • CVT transmission
  • 2,777 miles

Purchased my 2018 Crosstrek from Bill Rapp in Syracuse, NY on May 2, 2018. The car was originally the dealer's loaner vehicle.

Every time I start the car, the radio surprises me by turning on. Sometimes I can turn the radio off, but other times I cannot.

On May 17 I returned to the dealership to ask about the radio. I was told that it DOESN'T TURN OFF. I was told to turn the sound way down so I can't hear it. That was their solution?!?

It is extremely distracting when I am trying to drive. I am very worried about getting into an accident while trying to get it to turn off. The damn thing has caused me to argue with my husband, who insists there is something mechanically wrong, and I am incompetent for not getting it fixed.

Where are Tom and Ray Magliozzi when you really need them?

Update from Mar 13, 2019 Just had the Subaru recall for the radio/electronic system. It did not fix the radio. the radio is always on and is very difficult to turn off.

Crosstrek Sport Eyesight

  • CVT transmission
  • 200 miles

2018 Crosstrek bought in fall of 2017. The radio has been a PAIN since new. It's been replaced twice but still acts up. Also numerous updates were done. The car is over 2 years old - one would think that someone at Subaru would have (BY ACCIDENT OR BY MAYBE RUBBING A MAGICAL LAMP) been able to stumble across a REMEDY by now. And what sucks is that they are STILL using these SAME CRAP radios in newer models.

I'm FED UP. My 2018 Crosstrek is 2 YEARS OLD and Subaru STILL can"t figure out how to fix my radio!!! NASA can send a spaceship to the space station and bring back some astronauts home in that time period. The radio has been replaced TWICE and 7 updates have also been attempted. I will never buy Subaru again!!!!! I have purchased 9 new cars and this Subaru has been MORE of a HEADACHE than the other 9 combined!!!

Crosstrek Sport Eyesight

  • CVT transmission
  • 30,300 miles

Subaru dealer installed the FIFTH radio in my 2018 Crosstrek on Sept. 2, 2021... By Sept. 4, 2021 that piece of CRAP that they had just installed was ALREADY ACTING UP.

BOTH the Subaru dealer AND Subaru - Canada Don't Have A CLUE ++ Don't CARE.

Update from Oct 16, 2022: sept 2022, I was told over phone that I am no longer welcome at the dealership ( subaru of saskatoon, saskatchewan, canada ) - I've got a large sign mounted on the back of my car that says SUBARU SUCKS -- guessing that someone at dealership saw my sign and that this was the reason given for my being BARRED from dealership - I received a safety recall letter about rear suspension bolts possibly being loose and the next subaru dealer near me is a 3 hour drive,, cannot afford the gas -

Crosstrek Sport Eyesight

  • CVT transmission
  • 30,000 miles

The radio has been replaced 4 times already by Subaru dealer. This latest radio will mute itself and then start playing again. If I manually adjust volume between 12 -15, the sound also mutes. BUT if I use volume control on steering wheel, it starts playing again.

Between all the radio exchanges, I have also brought car into dealer for 7 USELESS UPDATES. I can't sue Subaru because I am in Canada and we don't LEMON LAWS up here (lemons don't grow here because the weather is too cold). I told dealer they should give me a NEW replacement car and they could keep this one in the corner of their shop AND PRACTICE on it in their spare time.

The apple car play will randomly disconnect. Sometimes unplugging it and plugging it back in will fix it. Otherwise it might randomly reconnect later in the drive. Basically makes anything except audio (which can connect over bluetooth when apple car play disconnects) unusable on apple car play.

We have a radio that's possessed. It goes on by itself, sometimes we can't turn it off because comes back on. The volume fades in and out (loud to low to loud to low). Personally, I think the radio is a piece of sh*t. Thanks for the vent session. Regards Steve

Crosstrek Sport Eyesight

  • CVT transmission
  • 1,000 miles

Car is 17 months old--on third radio already-- also many VISITS to dealer for UPDATES, etc.( WHICH WERE ALL A WASTE OF MY TIME ) Dealer has been good about issue, even though they are the ones getting all the FLAK from customers--I feel sorry for my dealer because it's the JOKERS higher up at Subaru that are to blame--NASA can send a spaceship faster to the space station THAN Subaru can figure out the radio problems--had NO PROBLEM with my 2013 Crosstrek and had I known my 2018 Crosstrek would be such a PAIN, then I definitely would NOT HAVE PURCHASED a Subaru.
