Outback

  • 8,600 miles
18" long windshield crack appeared on the passenger side about 6" from the bottom. I was driving on the highway and it may have cracked when or if pebble hit it. A lot of bugs died on my windshield that morning too so I had to use my windshield wipers and washer fluid. I did not notice a crack because it was way too dark in the morning to see anything. I noticed the crack at 1pm in the parking lot at work getting ready to go home.

The windshield on my 2019 Subaru Outback cracked out of nowhere while I was driving to work. There had been nothing up to this point that would have resulted in the windshield cracking. There were no chips or dents previous to the cracking.

I purchased a 2019 Subaru Outback four months ago and am now on my third windshield. I have been driving for 35 years and at best had a small chip on my windshield. 4 months 3rd windshield. Not a chip but totally shattered. With the eyesight technology in the car it's very expensive to replace. The first windshield was hit by something that grazed off the windshield. The second I came out in the morning and the windshield had a two foot long spit down the center of it.

Windshield has spontaneously cracked four different times since purchase in September 2018. Windshield has been replaced three times to date. Each time damage appears to start near the bottom of the glass, then spiders out. It is not clear that road debris or any other external force caused the cracking. This is a known defect and should be corrected by Subaru with a re-designed part. Sending the same windshield over and over does not fix the inherent problem. Your form does not allow for multiple incidences of the same problem over time. Please see attached documents. Are you working with Subaru to correct this problem?

After owning 2019 Subaru Outback for 6 months, washing it I found 6 to 7 chips scattered around the front windshield. I had the windshield replaced due to living in Florida, not wanting to take any chances. I driving vehicles for more than 45 years, I don't think that I had 6 chips on all the vehicles combined. I believe that Subaru has inferior quality windshield glass.

Outback

  • 4,000 miles
While driving down a state highway on 9/26/19 at 55 mph my passenger and I heard a small little tick sound and she said, "that's the same sound my crosstrek made on Monday when it chipped and cracked the windshield". so we started looking around the windshield and sure enough now mine was chipped and cracked at 5 weeks of age, both vehicles were bought new. Then a few weeks later, 10/12/19, on an interstate at 70mph another small, insignificant tick and I start looking around and again, same thing. Yesterday (as of this post) on a state highway at 55mph, right in front of me this time the same small tick sound yet another chip and crack! I've hit bugs harder than these hits that are producing chips and cracks!! both my 2019 crosstrek and 2019 Outback now have multiple chips and cracks in their brand new windshields and none of them are from legitimate impacts with a stone or rock.

Outback

  • 100 miles
Within two weeks of driving my brand new 2019 Outback, I had an 10-to-12-inch crack in my windshield. I am an incredibly careful driver and had only been driving on paved roads at moderate speeds. I also was driving a passenger around during this time period and neither one of us heard a sound (e.g., a rock or pebble flying up and hitting the windshield). I have absolutely no clue how I could have gotten a large crack within the first ten days on the road, especially since neither I nor my passenger encountered any sort of road condition or environmental/weather condition that might have caused it. It just mysteriously appeared in the windshield one day. I have been confused for the past 6 weeks but then I heard that there had been similar issues with Subaru windshields, and I believe mine is simply defective. I cannot afford to fix it, and this repair is not covered by my extended 10-year warranty. The Subaru dealership connected me with safelite, which gave me an estimate of over $1500 to replace the windshield.

problem #18

Dec 112018

Outback

  • 3,500 miles
Had my new car for 2 months and was driving about 50 miles an hour on the freeway, in the far right lane to prepare to exit. Heard a sound from the right front of the car, then noticed a very small crack in the upper right side of front windshield and thought a rock was kicked up by another car but saw no objects and there were few cars driving near me. It seemed odd and unsafe that a windshield could crack from little to no impact. Over the next day, the small crack expanded to about 12 inches. Spent $847 to replace the windshield and re-calibrate eyesight.

I was driving at approximately 45 miles per hour, coming down from a mountain range and just reached the bottom. I crossed a cattle guard and my sunroof shattered. I do not believe I rock hit as the dealership believes as their was no one directly in front of me and I was in a remote area of Arizona. I believe the sunroof shattered for either no reason or possibly change in elevation and temperatures. This is not safe. Luckily my shield was closed, but the sound alone was startling and could have caused an accident.
