Well. I feel really let down. I have always been loyal to Toyota, but I'm not sure how to feel now. My 2007 Camry SE V6 has no brakes. I had no warning light, just out of the blue, no brakes! On my way home from work, I pressed the pedal to stop at the red light and the pedal goes straight to the floor. I pumped the pedal and all I heard was hissing air. Pedal felt like I was stepping on a marshmallow. No issues with the brakes before this. No warning at all! Seems to be the same as most of the braking complaints on here, the brake booster. This needs to be a recall. No warning at all. I could have been on the highway when this happened and wouldn't be here to report the problem, because I would be dead!

TOYOTA make this right! Recall and replace theses faulty brake boosters!

My car engine light is on too. From these other complaints, it has to be my brake booster. We put new brakes on it not that long ago, be we checked them again anyway, and it's not the brake pads. When we hit the brakes to brake - the pedal goes all the way to the floor and makes a hissing sound - like air is leaking (have never heard this before). On our way home, we prayed we'd make it. Stayed way back from the other cars and crept all the way home. After getting home, you could put your ear down by the brake pedal and hear air escaping or blowing - so without a doubt, we feel it's the brake booster just like the same complaints we've already read about. I too, with this many complaints, think Toyota needs to put out a recall on this - we're lucky we weren't in an accident trying to get home - won't be driving it anymore and will wait until there's a recall or I, too will just get another model car.

Check engine light came on two week ago. Wednesday morning I was driving to work and went to apply the brake the brakes gave way without any warning ! Nearly hit the car right in front ! I notice the brake seems harder to depress since June, but just a few times, and think that's normal. This time, it suddenly become stiff, like a "dead brake". I did my research and found out it is the brake booster. Drive the car to Toyota dealer, costs me $1678 for labor and parts !!! It painful !

This is very dangerous I could have been killed if the car in front not move forward fast enough, and to think that this problem is very common for Camry. Toyota should contribute some money to the unlucky customers like me. I am broke right now but have no choice because I need the car to go for work.

My Check Engine light is on but I don't believe it has anything to do with the engine. The mechanic says that something is wrong with my brake booster. He also said that engine oil is real low and I had it changed less than 3 months ago. He couldn't find a leak but he said it could be leaking in the radiator. It's burning up like crazy. Every time I stop the car, it shakes a bit like it might stop. It's scary and I was told it might be $750 - $1,200 just for the part plus labor.

It seems like my car needs the Japanese brake booster which is more expensive than the American brake booster. The mechanic also suggested that I replace PCV valve. I will take it to Toyota to see if they can look at the oil being burnt off as a recall. Last time they said it was fine but evidently it's not. Also I remember Toyota recalling for brake booster issue but not sure if it was for Camry.

My old stand by mechanic informed me that the engine light was on because my fricken brake booster was out!!!! WTH. I thought maybe it was me but now realize that those few infrequent times I had to really press the brake was because the booster was failing and this was over the course of a year.

Brake booster shouldn't fail at 50,000 miles especially when it cost an arm and a leg after service fees.

Ask my service tech at Toyota if this was a recurring issue and he said no this is not normally seen in his experience.... Recall anyone!!!! Or do we have to crash and get injured like the defective airbags?

Getting Pissed! Going to buy a Honda next time around or a used Lexus LOL so I can get my dash changed also like my camry.

Check Engine light came on. Took to dealer & told them about the hissing noise. The diagnosis was P0420 sensor problem. Replaced the sensor. Drove 15 miles and check engine light came on again. Was trying to go home. Applied brakes on the way and the brakes became stiffened. Drove the car with a very stiff brake pedal back to Mechanic.

He had my car for a day & told me had a vacuum leak at brake booster. Warranty would not cover it, so $1376 to fix it, on what I feel it could have been an accident. Toyota has been contacted and I hope they make this a recall. They should do the right thing and fix it, or this will be my last Toyota ever, and that includes my family and friends too.

I bought my Toyota in 2007 brand new thinking this would be a great car. I am very upset to find out with only 59700 miles I have to replace the Brake Booster. This is very expensive and with all the complaints, I feel Toyota should recall this part and reimburse us for the cost. I was going to buy a Subaru and wish I had. I had a Subaru with 160000 miles and the biggest repair was an Alternator. I am very disappointed, I bought Toyota because I thought they were the best and now I have a change of mind. Do the install defective parts? This should not happen with low mileage.

As many before us, our brake booster has gone out. It started with the ABS light going on and a hissing sound when the brakes are pressed. At first we thought we were due for a brake change. That was done, the sound persisted. The brakes have now lost power and are like old school manual brakes. FRIGHTENING!! I contacted Toyota and no recall is pending, take it to the dealer, blah blah blah. This is a part that should really never fail in a car. I guess Toyota is just waiting for someone to die before they own up to it.

Check Engine light came on took to dealer, replaced O2 sensor, road car to pick kids up from school. Came to a red traffic light check engine light came on, proceeded to go home next time i had to use brakes, brakes became stiffened and ABS light came on briefly. Road with very stiff brake pedal back to dealer, ABS light turned off check engine remained on. Dealer had my car all day and came up with vacuum leak at brake booster. Extended warranty would not cover it, so 1500.00 is what they want, on what I feel could have been a tragic accident if it were my wife and kids in this Camry. Toyota has been contacted and I hope they make this a recall. Do right Toyota for this will be my last Toyota ever, and that includes my family and friends.

My husband told me that the check engine light came on Friday. Saturday morning we were driving and my husband went to apply the brake and said there is something wrong with the brakes. Good thing we were not on the highway as the brakes gave way without any warning. There is this hissing sound when you step on the brake. I did my research and found out it is the brake booster.

This is very dangerous as I just took my son back to college earlier on that Friday. We could have been killed, and to think that this problem is common for Camrys. Toyota needs to own up to this. This will most definitely the last Toyota I will buy. I have read all the post from people who have had this problem and a 1500 dollar bills is crazy. MAN UP TOYOTA!!!!

Glad I found this website before going to the dealer. Will also call the Toyota 800 number to see how it goes. So my sister-in-law has been having issues with her brake system, attempted to bleed the lines, and even thought the brakes pads and rotors looked good my brother and I replaced them as well. Same issue, check engine light is on and the brakes are beyond dangerous. Surprisingly there's no post from Toyota stating that there's a recall on the booster knowing that there have been several fails on them.

SMDH, own up to it!!!!

On my way home from work today, I was pulling up to a stop light behind a line of traffic. All of a sudden I felt the brake pedal "give" under my foot and I had to press really hard to make the car stop. I looked down and the "check engine" light had come on at the same time. The way the brake pedal felt, I thought the car had actually stalled, the pedal felt mushy under my foot. I made the turn okay but when I got to the next light there was a hissing sound like when you have air in your brakes and it was hard to stop, I had to really press down. I called my mom because I go over a two-lane toll bridge to get home and I was really nervous since it gets so crowded during rush hour. She talked to me until I could get to O'Reilly's to have the check engine light diagnosed.

The check engine light code was apparently for an O2 sensor but when I told the two techs there about what my brakes were doing they both suggested right off it was an issue with the brake booster. When I got home I texted my husband at work (he works at O'Reilly too), he called me for more detail. I didn't tell him what the other two techs had told me but he came to the same conclusion. He said there are two brake boosters available for my car - an American one for $94 and a Japanese one for $300. We are planning on taking the car to a mechanic on Thursday.

First check engine light came on; took to two places without them being able to find anything wrong, Then, I almost hit someone because the car would not stop when I applied normal brake pressure. Went back to repair shop and told them of brake problems, and that I was noticing a hissing noise if I pushed hard on brake pedal while at stoplights. Combined with the check engine light, he immediately suspected problem with vacuum assist braking, and found leak in booster. $400-600 for used part, over $900 for new one plus installation - - - - estimate was $1300-1600. Toyota needs to man up and pay for this . . . . or there will be more "late recall" repercussions.

My car brake function went down quickly to almost none in one week. There was hissing sound on application of brake which increased with worsening function of brake. I was scared so took to dealership and I paid $ 1600. I think this has affected my brake pads and rotors too. Called Toyota 1-800-331-4331. Associate told me this problem not known to toyota and denied for any financial help. I did research and came across multiple complains. After research I called toyota again. I had other associate this time. I told him that his other associate to whom I talked to said me that problem not known to toyota and there are many complains I saw online. I also offered to provide a copy of these complains. He refused to take a copy of complains I offered and told me that toyota would go by it's own database and won't consider information from any other resource. I encourage to all who have similar problem to notify toyota by calling 1-800-331-4331. This will make toyota aware of problem and eventually pay toyota owner for any loss. This may also lead to correction of problem and prevent serious accident with Toyota Camry

When I press down my brakes they make a hissing noise.My car eventually stops but not immediately. My Check Engine light is also on. I took my car to Toyota dealer even though I bought it brand new and they both confirmed that it was my brake booster and that this should not be a problem with Toyota. I have had over the phone estimates for parts from $400 (used) 650 (off brand) or 1000 (toyota brand). Talk less of labor. RIDICULOUS!!!!!

Couple of weeks ago, the check engine light was on and I heard brake noise like leaking air. After a day or so, the brake could barely stop. I took it to the dealer, they said the brake booster needed to be replaced, and it cost me $1600.

My mechanics then told me to complain to corporate, I called them and they referred me back to Toyota dealer's Customer Relationship's manager or service manager, even so, I did open a case with the corporate. The dealership made a deal with me, they would pay for the part, which cost $900 and I would pay for the labor, I basically have no choice. From $1600 to $660, better than nothing. I took the offer, but I agree it is a manufacturer defect, it should be 100% covered. I have own 5 Camrys, I can tell you there won't be a sixth one.

I bought new 2007 with a desire it will not cost too much at least until 100,000 miles. But two major trouble made it close to nightmare to me. First problem CV boot was leaking eventually I got to change both axles when mileage was about 55,000 miles.

Now I got to change my break power booster as it was making hissing noise under application. The repair cost me $1,271 with 10% discount at dealer's place. Interestingly, per a outside mechanic shop the part cost about $600 for them from a Toyota dealer while dealer is charging about $950 for the part from their customer (like me).

I strongly believe these are manufacturing fault and Toyota should be liable for these at least up to 100,000 miles or 10 years.
