Matrix 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 109,000 miles

Engine light came on took by O'reillys and they said catalytic converter stopped up. Passenger air bag sensor not working. Get it checked out in a couple of weeks. The very next morning it had hot melting smoke coming from under the hood. Had an alternator put on, then was told it was so hot it melted. Couldn't afford to get it fixed then. Now they are saying timing chain interference. Engine is messed up. Have gotten several recalls, couldn't get checked because of nonworking car. So now gonna be sitting again. I bought this car brand new (only new car ever had) have had more problems than any vehicle ever owned. Please help this has been unreal.

My car went up in flames slowly with fire dept. unable to do anything..gas leaking on road..cars held up in both directions..car totally burnt and towed away.

Very traumatic!!

engine fire

I had a brand new 2009 Toyota Matrix XRS. It had 26k mi on it, always been Toyota maintained and I was driving 8mi. from my house when it started smoking under the hood.

ALL the dash lights came on, the brakes completely failed and I had to use the e-brake to stop. The engine erupted into flames (within 5min of stopping). Now it's totaled. The extended warranty is useless and Toyota is FINALLY looking into it after my insurance company contacted them.

Anyone else have a similar issue? The original & extended warranty are useless. I have a 03' forerunner and a 05' Rav. The Fire depts initial idea is electrical?

My family is freaked thinking how close I came to being burned alive, or running off the cliff I happened to be driving on.
