I bought the vehicle brand new 9 months ago. It has barely 5000 miles. It wouldn't start this morning - it had been sitting in a 60 degree garage for 36 hours since I last drove it for 30 miles. Battery was completely dead, couldn't open tailgate or unlock doors. Attempted to jump four times (4th time successful). I never use the vehicle in accessory/axillary mode. I didn't leave any lights on or doors open; I am 100% sure of this.
It had to be towed to dealership. They say nothing is wrong, they just needed to charge the battery. Why would a brand new car's battery die?? Dealer says 'no hybrid vehicles have had this issue.' My research says that isn't true.
To top it off, the gas tank fills to only 9.8 gallons out of 14.5.
Toyota can't and won't fix the car's problems. TOYOTA IS AN AWFUL CAR COMPANY NOW, PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Shortly after driving and parking I go to start vehicle. Everything is dead. Vehicle is 10 months old with 10,051 miles. Service person says this common problem with 2020 Rav4 Hybrid. Jump started and let it run. After reading others comments appears this is a persistent problem and dealer says nothing wrong. ??????

A brand new car with 2000 miles on it. I drove it on a 600 mile round trip and got back home on Sunday. I did not drive it for 5 days. On the sixth day, I went to start it and it was dead as a door nail. I tried charging it, but it didn’t work. Called dealership where I purchased it - they had some interesting explanations about why a new battery goes dead in 5 days.
More than likely there is some piece of electronics that is running in the background and Toyota needs a software fix. How long must we wait for a fix, Toyota? Let’s hope it is soon - winter is coming and I am guessing the cold weather isn’t going to help this situation. If I need to start my rav 4 hybrid every day - it sort of defeats the purpose of buying a hybrid in the first place.

RAV4 Hybrid will not start (battery dead) a few days after initial purchase. Toyota roadside assistance technician indicated that "many" Rav4s are experiencing this issue. Taken to dealership and dealer indicated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Toyota is aware of this widespread issue but has not committed to a resolution.

In January of 2022, I had taken a road trip from Atlanta to Colorado. While in CO, my Rav4's battery suddenly died. When I initially tried to start the car, the lights and gauge cluster flickered as it tried to start, but failed. I tried a few more times and it eventually died. After getting a freshly-charged battery, the steering seemed awfully uncalibrated (filed under a separate complaint).
Now, months later and with no solution to the steering issue even after replacing the entire steering rack, the battery has died suddenly again. This time, I had driven it 20-30 minutes prior. When I returned to the car, it unlocked with the fob and seemed to be operating normally. I didn't try to start the car immediately as I returned a few texts and phone calls. When I was done, I tried to start the car to realize that it had no power whatsoever, as if the battery was completely dead. There was none of the behavior I noticed the first time: flickering lights, warnings, etc.
Since I was wary of this happening again, I already had a spare charged battery and trickle charger at home. So I grabbed a ride home and returned to the car later with the fresh battery. Upon taking the "dead" battery out, I noticed that the trickle charger metered it as being 75% charged.
Thankfully, my local dealership is taking it seriously and is trying multiple angles to find a solution. They have also assigned a corporate field rep to the case. All the same, the car has been in the dealership every other week for months and I'm growing impatient with the matter. I have an appointment to bring it soon - I'll update as I can.
