The lane assist function on the vehicle routinely pulls the vehicle off the road when accelerating uphill. Driver has to fight with the steering wheel to keep it from being pulled out of the lane and off the road. This occurs regularly on clearly marked roads, both on freeways and two lane rural roads.

The infotainment screens on the vehicle will randomly go blank, and when it reboots, will often freeze in the rebooting process. This prevents the driver and passengers from being able to see critical safety information on the center display and the driver's display, including the speedometer. Not being able to see the speedometer is a violation of Virginia code VA ? 46.2-1080. Speedometer in good working order. so the vehicle is not able to be legally driven in Virginia according to the Virginia State Police and most other states with similar codes. The manufacturer, Volkswagen, is telling owners to continue driving the vehicle in violation of state law. The existing recall on this issue should be expanded to be a stop drive recall due to this safety defect.

In May '23 VW Manufacturer sent a letter informing my car was subject to Recall 57J4, for door handle failure which can lead to doors opening while vehicle is moving. 7/25/2 I brought my car to Steven-??s Creek VW in San Jose, CA, for several issues that needed repair, and asked them to test for Recall 57J4. They found the left rear door handled failed and needed to be replaced (see attached service record). The repair was not performed that day because the part needed to be ordered, as did several other parts. I planned to return once all parts were in; several months passed, with no parts coming in. By Jan '24 the car was having many more problems, so I brought it back to the original dealer I purchased it at: Santa Cruz Volkswagen, Santa Cruz, CA. During the course of my many repairs at Santa Cruz VW I informed them that the door handle safety recall repair was never performed (see attached 5/6/24 service record). The Service Advisor said Santa Cruz VW couldn't do the repair, because the replacement part was VIN specific and that Volkwagen Manufucturer wouldn't send the replacement part because Steven-??s Creek VW dealer had already ordered the part, and had also noted in their computer system that they performed the repair - which is false. I never returned to Steven-??s Creek VW after 7/25/23, and they never performed the repair for recall 57J4, even though it is incorrectly noted in their computer system as having been repaired. (Steven-??s Creek VW has acknowledged that this information is incorrect.) I'm filing this complaint because I need help enforcing the requirement that the dealer perform the repair per the safety recall, on the basis that the information input into Steven-??s Creek VW system is incorrect. To this date, the repair has still not been performed. Volkswagen the manufacturer needs to remedy this by supplying the Santa Cruz VW dealer with the part so that they can finally perform the repair.

On occasion the car moves backward when I have it in Drive, and forward when I have it in Reverse. It commonly happens when doing a tight, 3 point turn. I noticed the issue shortly after I purchased the car in Mar '23 and first brought the car to the dealer for inspection after the 2nd time it happened in Jan '24. I've brought the car in many times for this and they cannot duplicate it or fix it (4 service records attached). There's no warning lights or error messages. I can visually see the gear shifter is in Drive, but when I put my foot on the accelerator the car moves backwards. It's the same when I visually see the gear shifter in Reverse, but the car moves forward. This has put my safety, the safety of my passengers, and the safety of people standing nearby at risk on multiple occasions. On one occasion, I was navigating a tight, multipoint u-turn, as I was trying to turn around between 2 large trees. My nephew stood outside the car waiting to get in. When I had enough clearance between the tree in back of me, and the back of my car, I put the car in Reverse to backup a few feet so that my nephew had enough space to open the passenger side door and get in. However, even though I had put the car in Reverse, it unexpectedly moved forward nearly pinning my nephew between the front of my car and the tree in front of me. I shouted at my nephew to step away from the car. I looked at the gear shifter again to ensure that I was in fact in Reverse, and then I tapped the accelerator gently to see if I could inch back away from the tree in front of me, but the car continued to move forward nearly hitting the tree. I had to put the car in Park, remove my seat belt, open the driver's side door, and step out of the car to get the car to "turn off" and "restart". When I got back in the car, and attempted to Reverse again, it worked as expected. I didn't log exact dates each time it happened, but I did first bring it to dealer for this problem on 1/4/24, with 8070 miles.

On August 23, 2024, the car was parked at our home and turned off. It was not connected to the charger. At around 7:25pm Pacific time, I got into the driver's seat, closed the door, and depressed the brake pedal so I could put the car into Drive. While my foot was still on the brake, and the car was still in Park, the car lurched forward towards my husband, who was standing in front of the car. The car moved forward in a fast, jerking movement, less than 2 feet, before stopping on its own. My husband quickly moved to the other side of the alley way. Both console screens went black. I still never took my foot off the brake for fear that it would lurch forward again. I picked up my phone to film the screens to see if they would put up an error message or warning light. Just before I started filming the dashboard, the screen above the steering wheel came back on, but acted weird, with the gears disappearing from the right side of the screen completely around 12 second into the video. You can see in the video that I tried to put the car into gear, but as I move the gear shifter through the various gears it does nothing. My foot remained on the brake pedal the entire time up until the moment you see in the video, when I took my foot off of the brake and the car "restarted" itself, allowing me to get it into a gear again. My husband, or anyone else nearby, would have been severely injured if they had been standing closer to the vehicle when it lurched forward. I took the car to Santa Cruz Volkswagen to be inspected for this issue on 9/3/24. I provided them a detailed description and the video I took, but they were unable to duplicate it. Based on the many other issues I-??ve had with this car prior, I believe a combination of faulty electronics, manufacturing defects, and buggy software may have caused this incident. (I uploaded a PDF of service records for this issue from dealer, but could not upload the video: it's 10.3mb MP4 file, which I'm happy to provide if possible.)

While backing out of my driveway onto our residential street the car died without warning and all information displays went blank for a moment and then all the warning lights came on. The car would not change gears and my car was obstructing the roadway. My children were in the backseat of the car. I pressed the start stop button on the dash and the car "rebooted". warning lights were gone. I took the vehicle into the dealership a few days later for a scheduled repair to the steering wheel. I informed them of the incident and asked them to inspect. They ran a diagnostic and determined that they needed to replace a module in the vehicle's electrical system. Once the repair was complete we retrieved the car. Less than seven days after picking up the "repaired" vehicle my husband was backing out of our driveway and the same thing happened - only this time he was still in the driveway. Our driveway has a slight slope and the car was behaving as though it was in neutral (rolling down the drive) with no ability to change gears. Warning lights indicating electrical system failure were on the dash. He had to open his door and start to exit the vehicle while depressing the brake pedal in order to get the car to turn off. We had the vehicle towed to the dealership. They had the car for over 45 days trying to diagnose and duplicate the issue. We were told that there were no error codes and that they could not duplicate the problem. In the end we initiated a buyback request from VW and were denied with no explanation. I do not feel safe in this vehicle. It appears to have a major fault in its electrical system that is triggered by a yet to be determined set of circumstances. I frequently drive in and out of driveways on all sorts of roads and feel fortunate that this happened where it did. If this happened to me while I was backing out onto a more heavily trafficked roadway it could cause a life threatening accident.

The infotainment system continuously goes out on a daily basis and I have to reboot it every time, the rear camera will delay or not come on at all and I have to put the car in neutral then back to reverse to get it back on. The speedometer screen goes out constantly and won-??t show how fast I am driving or my battery percent. I don-??t get the mileage I-??m suppose to get out of a charge, it automatically breaks when driving on highways for no reason. Sometimes the screen will go white and show code. This car is highly dangerous to the public and nobody is helping me get out of it. It-??s a recall with no fix available and I can-??t even get a loaner or anything.

The doors still don't work properly. They do not close. It happens randomly. It is usually when I drive out of the parking spot or back out so going slow. The rear passenger door opens randomly without warning. I've taken it to three dealerships but they haven't been able to replicate it while the car is there for service so they just send me back or don't even check in the car. I first complained about this the day after I bought it but still nothing

I have an open recall on my vehicle. It is related to software defect that can affect the dashboard display that can affect the rear view camera. Currently, no remedy available. Need to wait.-?? It-??s very difficult to just wait without timeframe of when it will be available for fixing it. It-??s almost a month since the recall was placed. Please help in getting this resolved. Thank you

I was halfway into a parking stall. There was a cement sign post at the end of the stall and a truck facing me opposite. About six feet from the post the car accelerated and glanced off the post and hit the truck slightly. It happened very fast but I am 99% sure the car accelerated on its own. We did a search afterwards and found many reports of our model doing similar things.

Preconditions: Phone was connected to Infotainment via Wireless Android Auto and reproducing content from the phone. A/C was on fan. Driving on congested highway at around 35 MPH with stop and go segments. Incident: Answered a phone call by pressing answer on infotainment and took the handsfree phone call. Conversation had been ongoing for maybe 10 minutes. Then I noticed I was not being heard by the other party. Hung up. Party called again and the same thing happened. In a stopped segment I placed the call. Noticed same issue. Then I looked up and the center infotainment screen was black. I then pressed the power button for 10 seconds to reset the infotainment. At that point the driver information screen ( what replaces the instrument cluster) had a somewhat different color scheme. At this point I decided to turn off all ACC functions (were not in use, just on). Suddenly this screen (driver information) turned off - no indications of ACC, Speed, etc. were available. Only the basic drive mode indicators were on showing I was in drive (this part seems independent). No negative effects to the drive were noticed ( I could accelerate, stop and steer). Some minutes later the entire system rebooted and all indications were back. Some warnings about driver assistance disabled were shown on the driver information screen. I have seen some center infotainment resets in the past, but having the driver information screen (or instrument cluster) turn off like that I find extremely unnerving and dangerous. Fortunately basic drive function was unaffected and safety seemed fine.

I submitted a previous report regarding my passenger front door attempting to open while the vehicle was in motion. Yesterday the door fully opened under motion with my wife as a passenger. It sounds like the latch kept cycling until the door opened. My wife just prior to departure decided to start video recording while driving as we both believed the dealer may not be able to replicate the incidents. We have recording of this we can email. The door does attempt to open several times on some days, some days it doesn't. My vehicle according to the dealer is not a part of the affected vin's for the recall. It has not been back to the dealer for evaluation and repair yet. This has become an extremely dangerous situation as an owner or passenger.

Driver-side door opens and closes by itself while driving or when the car is stopped. Driver-side door also locks and unlocks itself while driving or when the car is stopped. Unable to unlock driver-side door from the outside of the car. Some times the driver side door will not open from the inside all the way. Before, this was just a frustrating inconvenience, but yesterday, it became a scary, safety hazard. I was stopped in the middle of the street during peak hour traffic at a green light unable to start my car because the driver-side door had opened itself, but I could not open the door all the way to close it and the car would not let me start because it thought the door was open. Even after I was finally able to open my door and tried to close it, the car still would not start. I had to try repeatedly to start the car back up before it finally started. This happened for several minutes while I had my small children in the backseat and other cars were honking around us and nearly hit us. I have told the dealership and taken the car to get serviced, but the part to fix the door is back ordered with an unknown delivery date. The dealership says that many of their 2023 ID.4 customers are facing the same door issue and they've reported their frustrations with VW headquarters. This needs to be investigated and VW should issue a formal recall.

After leaving a stop sign and making a right turn I heard what sounded like a clunk with an audible tone. This was followed by the interior lights turning on and a red door open symbol on the dashboard display (see attached photo). A few hundred feet later I parked my car at work and took photos of the passenger front door ajar as if attempting to unlatch while in motion. I read of a recall (campaign number 23V312) for 2021 -2022 Volkswagen ID4's for this issue. My dealer stated my vehicle is not included in the recall though it's having the same issue. I'm scheduling a service visit in soon.

Center console spontaneously shuts down while driving. After about 3 min, the system reboots, but temporarily the driver console also disappears and the speedometer cannot be seen. A warning that lane assist is not available is shown. The backup rear view cannot be used during the downtime. In this car, this happened three times over a 4 month period with about 2000 total miles driven. In a previous instance in a different ID4, braking was also impacted and additional error messages appeared temporarily.

When I am parking at 5mph in a medical center parking structure, the car suddenly got an uncontrollable acceleration that hit the parking cement and hit the wall in front of the parking area. I cannot imagine that if it is not in the parking structure with 5 mph, it will be fatal or injured and hit more people and cars on the freeway. I want a safe vehicle and spent over $55K for my daily chore. I lost confident on an electric vehicle, and hope your agency will iron all these out prior to introduce to the public. It is similar to the following case: An owner from Georgia describes what happened after getting into the ID.4, putting a foot on the brake, and then putting it into gear. -??The car jumped forward and I had to press brakes with all my strength to keep it from accelerating to full -??throttle.-?? It did the exact same when I put it in reverse. I turned the car off, got out, gave it a couple of minutes, and tried two more times. It did the same thing every time. -??It is like the accelerator is pressed to the floor as soon as you put it in gear without you touching it. I almost hit my house due to the wheels being turned before the first try.-?? Having had the car for only two weeks, -??I called a tow truck to take it to the dealer.-??
