Outside drivers side door handle stops working intermittently. Had to lower windows and use inside handle to open door. Also, driver side door randomly latches and unlatches without any interaction with the handle. Twice happened while turning at low speeds causing door to swing open, once in driveway causing door to hit house.

Driver car door intermittently pops open, while driving, when stopped, and when parked (not occupied). Car door locks intermittently stop working, meaning passengers cannot enter from outside, cannot open door from inside, doors do not unlock when key fob approaches. Also when this is happening, charge port shorts ie. disconnects/connects. When these issues are happening, defogger runs intermittently when parked, unless I enter car to manually turn off heating system. Turning off defogger with app does not stop defogging even when it says "off" in app. Seems tons of water is down in door... If the car is dry, if I roll the windows down then up, windows are COVERED with water. At times, front windows go down when trying to roll them up. Not safety, but internal ambient lighting system has two colors, one for dash, one for door lights. Door light color selection does not work, and doors only will show color of dash color selection.

I am writing to file a formal complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding a critical safety concern with my recently purchased vehicle, a VW ID 4 model from 2021-2023. Vehicle Information: VIN: [XXX] Make: Volkswagen Model: ID 4 Year: 2021-2023 Date of Purchase: January 5th, 2024 Incident Details: On [XXX], I experienced a hazardous incident involving sudden acceleration when releasing the brake pedal as I was coming to a stop and pulling into a parking space. Despite the fact that the pedal was not fully released, the vehicle accelerated forward, colliding with another vehicle at an approximate speed of 40-50 MPH. Shockingly, neither the airbags deployed nor did the safety automatic braking system engage. The incident raised significant safety concerns, especially considering similar reports from other VW ID 4 owners. Actions Taken: I promptly took the vehicle to VW Marin Dealership in San Rafael, CA, where their report claimed no issues with the vehicle. However, further research on my part revealed that this issue is prevalent among VW ID 4 models from 2021 to 2023. Attached to this letter, you will find pictures of both vehicles involved in the incident for your reference. Request for Investigation: I urge the NHTSA to thoroughly investigate this safety issue with VW ID 4 models from 2021-2023. The potential risks associated with sudden acceleration pose a serious threat to the safety of vehicle occupants and others on the road. Identifying and addressing the root cause of this problem is crucial to preventing future accidents and fatalities related to this faulty vehicle behavior. Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated, and I trust that the NHTSA will take appropriate action to ensure the safety of all motorists. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Since I purchased the car I had had difficulty with unlocking and locking the doors intermittently but had not yet had it looked by the dealer. I had the front passenger door repaired/replaced recently, and shortly after that the doors started randomly opening. For example, the trunk opened when I walked up to it, or the front drivers side door opened (not fully but partially, so still shut) while I was at the playground with the kids (I received a notification on my VW app that the door was open after we had been parked for quite a while. This progressed to the driver side door no longer locking. I decided the car was unsafe to drive when the drivers side front door opened while the car was in drive while I was stopped at a stop sign - so it started opening while I was operating the vehicle. Again, the door didn-??t fully open, but I had to open the door fully to close it. I know VW recalled this car in the summer for this very reason, it seems like their fix either didn-??t work or somehow was undone when the car was repaired.

20122 miles 7/31/2023 -?" Infotainment screen would reboot at random. I was also receiving the 12V battery message still and the electrical system error Dropped vehicle off at AutoNation VW for the 20000-mile service. Mark Daddario said that sometimes it-??s how the customer drives the EV-??s that makes the errors come up but couldn-??t tell me anyway I was driving it incorrectly. I left the vehicle asking them to perform the maintenance, perform the door handle recall, and replace the flat tire under my VW Care tire protection plan. I left the vehicle with them for several days while I was out of town. Upon picking up the vehicle Chris Guilkey told me everything was performed, but the system was down so they couldn-??t give me any paperwork. He handed me the key and pointed to my vehicle which was returned to me with 17% charge. Shortly after leaving the dealership the vehicle performed a thud and shut down. After waiting a few minutes, it restarted again. I drove back to the dealership and Chris didn-??t see any errors on the screen so told me everything should be fine.

The vehicle does not get 275 range fully charged as window sticker states. New vehicle with 600 miles on it only gets 242 range when fully charged. The vehicle is over stated to boost sales. You cannot lock the vehicle in any way, shape, or form unless you have the key fob. if you forget to lock your car, you cannot ask someone to lock it for you without a key. The car cannot be locked from interior door like a traditional door. Huge safety issue. To make it worse, the vehicle cannot be locked from the App like Volkswagen advertised. Scam all around.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request" The driver's side door opened while I was driving the vehicle at around 25 mph How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The door opened by itself while the car was moving causing multiple safety issues to me the driver and others driving near me. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? We have an appointment to have it inspected by the dealer tomorrow on 12/6/23 Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear" Prior to the door opening while driving, the car door made several locking, unlocking nosies and then opened. When I put drivers and passengers front window down part way and stop it and use the window control to put the window back up it goes down not up. Window has to go all the way down before it will go back up. I also have a loner ID.4 that does the same thing. I also seen the same complaint on the Volkswagen owner forum. Talk to dealer and they said they would look at it. I own a 2021 VW ID.4 and that didn-??t happen in that car. I think if I push the windows control that should put window up then it should go up not down.

While backing up in a driveway at approximately 3-4 miles per hour, the vehicle lost all power and stalled. Both screens went completely black. Seconds later (10-15 maybe) the system re-initialized as if it was rebooted. If this happened at higher speed, it might result in accidents.

Optical Windshield Distortion The distortion is noticeable on the drivers and passenger sides of the windshield where it meets the vertical frames of the body. They are approximately 2-3 inches wide running the full vertical length. The distortion is clearly visible in full light, affecting peripheral vision of approaching vehicle movement or other passing external sources of glare day and night. They are not visible when the windshield is in shade. The dealership affirmed the malady and submitted a warranty claim to VW regarding the material defect (07/20/23). It was authorized and the windshield was replaced (10/27/23). The replacement windshield has visible distortion as well; affirmed again by dealership service staff. The 2nd warranty claim was denied by Volkswagen. Their reason, related by the dealership service staff, "was that all windshields have distortion". The dealership would not supply documentation when requested. This is clearly a material defect that poses a safety concern under all driving conditions. Verification of this claim can be seen on this vehicle or the dealerships demonstration unit(s) as well as a supportive review of similar incidents at ID4 owner websites such as [XXX] ). A few minutes after charging at an Electrify America location (JFK cell phone lot) I had to step out of the vehicle. Suddenly all sensors stopped working, I was locked out, key fob doesn't work, manual key didn't work either, truck locked out. Car would not connect to the app. I smell something burning but lightened after a few minutes. After 20 minutes of struggle, miraculously I got one door open and drove home. Speedometer stopped working on the way back and I cannot get the car to stop, ac would not turn off either on its own. I am trying to get a service appointment as soon as I can with my dealership.

Unknown - The day after purchasing the vehicle, and less than 24hrs and 50 miles on the vehicle, I attempted to start it and all the warning lights immediately went on. The vehicle subsequently locked me out and I was unable to gain entry into the vehicle. The car was towed to the dealership and has been with the dealership for 2 weeks. VW America is apparently sending engineers to look at the vehicle to determine what happened.

* After parking on a hill (with the car facing uphill) and putting the car in Park, as my wife was gathering her things to exit the car, the car suddenly released from Park and lurched backward, rolling into the parked car behind it. This caused a dent on the back of the ID4, fortunately no damage to the other car. And especially fortunate that no people were hurt. * We called the dealership and also opened a case with VW corporate. Both were very responsive. After a week of running tests, they returned the car to us because they couldn't reproduce the issue and didn't find any error codes through their diagnostics * While driving the car myself, I experienced the issue again in a different context -- I was pulling out of a parking lot, on a downramp waiting to enter the street. As I lifted my foot from the brake preparing to drive into the street, the car lurched backward, up the downramp. Fortunately there was no car behind me and no pedestrians walking by. We reported this to the dealership and VW. They immediately took the car in again and kept it another week. Ultimately one of the techs at the dealership did experience the issue. We have a written report from the dealership that says, "Verified customer concern. Vehicle slightly rolled back before moving forward." (report uploaded) However, neither the dealership nor VW could trace this to an "error code" or a root cause. With confirmation of the issue from the dealer, I formally asked VW to cover the costs of the repair. VW said they would not, because there was no "error code" that pointed to a manufacturing fault. I argued that if we have confirmation that the car is doing something it shouldn't be doing, the fact that VW doesn't know why doesn't mean it's not their responsibility. The car is still potentially very unsafe. * We repaired the car at our expense (invoice uploaded) but I would still like VW to take responsibility for the cost and also ensure the car is safe for us and for others

On the evening in question I stop the car in 5 ft front of my garage, which still does not have an automatic garage door opener. I press P to engage the parking brake and take it out of drive. I returned one phone call getting a voicemail and I don-??t recall the exact sequence but I definitely had my seatbelt off and I reached to the passenger seat where I had left some things that I needed to take into the house, at that point, and again with neither of my feet on or near the accelerator, I noticed the car was moving and the next thing I knew it crashed through the garage door and hit another vehicle. The estimate for damages to my vehicle is about $14,000 and Volkswagen and insists from their analysis of the black box that nothing is wrong. However there are some issues that I-??d like to discuss.
