Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7L V8 Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,658 miles

This problem is two of three, I will list all three problems separately, my truck is a 2011 Ram 1500 5.7 V8 Laramie. Again because of my faulty fuel pump relay inside the TIPM this problem is because my fuel pump will continue to stay on after I have turned the truck off. When I go out in the morning my battery will be completely dead, I have already had the battery tested and it is in near perfect condition. The fuel pump gets stuck in the on position and will not turn off till the battery is dead. I have not taken my truck to the Dodge dealership because I know they are going to charge me diagnostic fees as well more than likely tell me the wrong thing is messed up (fuel pump, battery, starter, alternator) when in fact it is the fuel pump relay inside of the TIPM module. Of course the TIPM module is non-serviceable and the fuel pump relay that is going bad inside cost five f@$@ing dollars. If you do a quick Google search you will see that there is dozens and dozens of forums and websites filled with the same thing, I don't feel like I should have to spend the $1200 to replace something that is very well known by now to be messed up. I will be making three separate complaints about the TIPM because depending on the day it does one of three possible things. Step up and fix this Chrysler before it kills people!!

Truck will not start. Normally a $3 fuel pump relay is now a $1500 service that only Dodge can do because of this defective TIPM. How can this not be a recall if other Chrysler vehicles from the same year with the same defective part were recalled?

Started having off/on problems starting truck where I'd turn key fob to start & engine would continuous crank but not start. Would turn key off then retry & motor would start. This happened about 6 times before ignition eventually would just continuous crank with no start. At the same time the starting problem began I'd get spontaneous BRAKE/ANTI-SKID/TRACTION CONTROL warning lights while driving. These would usually clear after about a minute but happened several times over a week's time. Took truck to dealership & they initially replaced the crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, and fuel pump--all to no avail & despite my disgust & telling them I thought they were guessing! How could all these components be failed when the truck ran fine the day prior?!! Then I got the news that the TIPM needed replacing. Are you kidding me?!!

totally integrated power module (TIPM)... or piece of crap that's going to cost $1,100 to fix. Now my wife and I are fighting over it because she doesn't want to get ticked at the dealership about it. Sure, it's not their fault. But after spending two seconds online (the INTERNET!!!), find out there's a class action lawsuit for this issue, and gazillions of people are pissed about it.

This TIPM also creates a safety issue. Some vehicles have reported air bags not deploying, car turning off while driving down the highway, headlights shutting off never coming on again and many more.

Hope they SUE the crap outta Dodge! $50,000 hunk of frikkin junk!!!!! Rides nice... If you can see at night.

-The AC/Heat blower has been screwed up since early 2014 and is annoying as hell.

-Sometimes the night lights on the mirrors get really wacky and start glitching.

-Last month the running board just fell off. Fell off! Good thing we weren't flying 80 down the highway!! Speed limit is 80mph here in Utah. Could've killed someone.

Chrysler is already recalling other vehicles for the same failure. I wonder if it is the same part number in the Rams as it is in the Durango's. If so why not recall the rams with the same problem. WTF !

Not pleased with Dodge at this point.

TIPM issue

A lot of people are reporting the "truck cranks but won't start" problem. Some of those same people may experience the "fuel pump won't shut-off problem". These are really the same problem.

Here it is folks. It's NOT your fuel pump! It's a small electrical relay. That relay is located on a circuit board, inside your TIPM (the big fuse box under the hood). The circuit board is not sealed against environmental corrosion. The problem relay is specifically the "fuel pump relay". When the relay fails, it no longer feeds power to the M25 fuse when, in turn, feeds power to your fuel pump. Jumper power from the M7 fuse (that's your accessory power outlet) fuse to the M25 fuse (fuel pump fuse) and your problem is solved!

I'll attach (below) the original webpage from the guy that discovered the fix and documented the details. I built my own by-pass harness and it definitely fixes the problem. If you don't want to make your own harness, the author of the webpage will sell you one for about $30.

There is a "down-side" to the by-pass harness. If you have a remote-start option on your key fob, this option will no longer work. You will not be able to remote start the vehicle.

Here's a photo of the installed by-pass harness I made for my own truck. Cost me about $15 bucks for parts and took about 20 minutes to make and install.

Truck would not start at all. Tried 4 times. Had the vehicle towed to repair shop. After they tinkered with it for 6 hours, the truck started spontaneously. Heard about the TIPM problem, now concerned that it might or might not start again.

Ram 1500 SLT 5.7L-L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 48,760 miles

When I first noticed the problem my truck was under warranty. I was driving on the highway in traffic about 70-75 MPH when my truck stalled and lost power. My cruise control shut off and I was unable to reset it. I made it home, called the dealer and made an appointment to get it checked. I was told that my gas cap was not on properly. A little over a month ago I started having trouble starting my truck and then my battery would be drained when I would come back to it the next day. I had it checked and was told that the battery and starter were bad. Change the battery and had to order the starter. I was still having the same problem. Had my truck checked again and did some research and found out that the problem was the TIPM and that the parts was on back order. After more I found out just how major the problem was with this vehicle and that Chrysler was not trying or willing to do anything to help or fix the problem and that they knew about all alone.

Ram 1500 Sport 5.7L Hemi V8

Stopped at a gas station to refuel and the truck would not start after filling up. Had to jump start it and it ran fine for the rest of the trip (about 50 miles). Once home, I immediately shut it down and tried to restart. No luck. Went to the parts store for a new battery and the truck started right up. Ran fine for four days. Now it's doing the same thing again, but now it's beginning to stall while driving and headlights flicker constantly. Suspect the TIPM issue that I've been reading about.

Truck would not start on random occasions. Replaced battery and alternator which did not fix the problem, only after doing research online I figured out it was the TIPM and that Chrysler new the part was defective in many of it's vehicles. Part needs to be part of a nationwide recall!!!

Ram 1500 ST 3.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 92,000 miles

Purchased my 2011 Ram 1500 V6 in February of 2011. Never had any issues except the 2 recalls on the rear end which was not a big deal. Went to start my vehicle this morning to move it for my mother in law to get out of our driveway and everything was fine. Went out 20 minutes later for my wife and I to leave for church and turned the key, the truck hit like it was starting then all lights went out and all that happened was a clicking from under the hood. About 3 minutes of looking around and the lights came on but anytime I touched the key everything went dark, even had to fight to get the key to the off position and out of the ignition. Even after the ignition turned for me to get the key out, the clicking continued so I disconnected the battery cable to stop it.

Really hoping it isn't the TIPM system but from what I've read that seems to be the likely cause. Is there a recall at this time? Doesn't seem to be. Does anyone know what Dodge/Ram/Chrysler is doing with this? I'm a newlywed and am looking to buy our first home, I really don't have 2k plus to put into this vehicle on top of the payment I already make on it. Anyone know of a different possible solution to try first?

Ram 1500 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

I had the truck towed to the Sacramento Dealership on Fulton and they diagnosed it with a faulty fuel pump (fuel line not holding enough pressure). They charged me $140 for diagnosis and then said it would cost another $780 to replace the fuel pump.

I had a buddy tow it out and had it replaced by him for 3rd of the cost and he stated it has nothing to do with it. The same exact problem occurred again where the engine wouldn't turn over to start. In fact now my truck is completely dead after I tried to start it the next day. I called back the dealership and they stated we would of not charged you if it was done by us. I asked about the missed diagnosis and they really had no other answer but we go with what we got. That we would now have to do further diagnosis to find out what it really is. ITS A COMPUTER PROBLEM!

Sucks because I had the 3 yr or 36k warranty and a fuel pump went out in 4 yrs. REALLY!

Engine shuts down and won't restart. After checking, I discovered that the fuse that operates the fuel pump had melted and shut off the engine causing the loss of power braking, power steering, while going 65 mph on a freeway nearly causing me to lose control. After luckily finding the problem I replaced the fuse and it happened two more times. Now I am afraid to drive the vehicle since it could cause a crash. I consider this to be a large safety problem.

Ram 1500 LS 4.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,500 miles

I purchased my 2011 Ram 1500 pickup vehicle a little over a year ago. About a week ago, I have been having difficulty starting my vehicle. I thought that it was my car alarm/remote started so I had it removed. A few days later, the battery died. I had to have AAA come out to check my battery. Once they did, they recharged my battery and my vehicle ran fine that day.

The next day, my truck would not start. AAA came out again and informed me that it was not my battery. My battery was tested and is in good standard. That day, I had my vehicle towed to the dealership and they informed me that my vehicle will not start due to my Totally Integrated Power Module. The part alone is $900 to repair with labor I'm out about $1200. Not to mention the fact that I had to pay out of pocket for a rental of $300. According to the manager at the Southfield Chrysler Jeep Dealership and Chrysler Headquarters, there is nothing they can do about it.

I should have purchased an extended warranty. I can't understand why other vehicles like the 2011 Durango and 2011 Grand Cherokee have been recalled for this issue but this vehicle has not. I will never purchase a Chrysler Vehicle again.
