  • 117,000 miles
Brake booster failed causing serious decline in braking distance to a point where I felt the car was unsafe to drive. I almost got in an accident because of this. In my opinion this is a part that should never fail. Vehicle was in motion and almost rear ended someone because of the braking distance was increased by a large amount.

While driving my Ford Edge I applied my brakes. The brakes became very non responsive.. I had to press the brakes all the way to the floor before they responded. I checked the brake fluid level and it was okay. I than began reading and discovered Ford has a known issue with the diaphragm in the brake booster. This is a serious safety concern for everyone on the road because it happens without warning.we just completed a 1000 mile trip and now face a huge repair bill for a known defective Ford part plus loss of vehicle.

Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor. No rhyme or reason except each of the handful of times it's done this (several random weeks apart)I seem to always be lucky enough to be going a low speed (less than 40 mph) very scary feeling when one doesn't stop as expected. Each time had occurred when attempting a complete stop on city street.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. While driving 45 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed. The contact mentioned that the emergency brakes were engaged to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. In August of 2018, the vehicle was taken to marshal mize Ford (5348 tn-153, hixson, tn 37343, (423) 875-2023) where they repaired the brake booster. The vehicle was towed back to the same dealer for the recent failure and the contact was informed that the hydraulic control braking unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was currently waiting to be repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the brake pedal felt spongy and traveled to the floorboard when depressed. The contact heard an abnormal, intermittent noise when the failure occurred. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not included in extended warranty coverage number: 13N02 (brake booster ' 2010-2013 Ford Edge & Lincoln mkx). Veterans Ford (3724 veterans memorial blvd, metairie, la 70002, (504) 887-8410) indicated that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was at the dealer awaiting further diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was not available.

While driving my Ford Edge, I began hearing a hissing noise inside the cabin as I applied my brakes. The brakes became very non responsive and I nearly slammed into the vehicle in front of me when trying to stop. I had to press the brakes all the way to the floor before they responded. I first checked the brake fluid level and it was okay. I than began reading and discovered Ford has a known issue with the diaphragm in the brake booster. This is a serious safety concern for everyone on the road because it happens without warning.

The brakes become very soft and go all the way to the floor. They will work but in a very delayed fashion. I've been to two different dealers and one said rust/dust in them and the other one said nothing is wrong after I even purchased new brakes. 3 Ford Edge vehicles in my family and all three are experiencing the same U known safety issue

Edge

  • 85,000 miles
ABS system failure - while the vehicle is in full speed motion and after applying brakes firmly for an abrupt stop, the braking system fails to distribute power equally to each brake causing the vehicle to fail in two specific performance features. First applying full braking capacity to slow the vehicle effectively and efficiently. Second, the vehicle pulls to one side or the other in a random fashion. This performance makes the vehicle unsafe to drive as the power braking capacity is less than 30 percent. This failure was reported to the authorized Ford dealer and they could not identify the failure or chose not to. This issue should have been a warranty issue but was not since the dealer did not identify during the warranty period, I was forced to pay the full repair cost months later.

Brakes started becoming 'loose', would go all the way to floor with hissing sound. Vehicle would still stop ok. Mechanic checked because brake pads, rotors, etc were all fine. He said it was the pressure and he believed there to be a recall or extended warranty on the issue so he did not want to do. The brakes then started to become locked, it wouldn't go down at all and stopping was becoming an issue. Unless you pumped slowly and then it did the hiss and all the way to the floor. I called Ford dealership and they took VIN and said our vehicle wasn't included. I started doing research and learned that many folks are having the same issues and are being told the same thing...not included. Many. Seems to me common sense would say that maybe the issue is bigger than we first realized. How many will be injured or killed ? and oh yes how many like us will have to spend hundreds of dollars on something Ford should take care of. Do the right thing and make Ford fix them all.

Anti-lock electronic control and module.a month after Ford change my brakes booster, the same problem started again, now they said is the anti-lock eectronic control and module. Been waiting for 1 month for a part that apparently breaks more than usual and dealer tells me that they have around 5 more cars waiting for the same part that is not in stock anywhere. According to the dealer, Ford is making changes to the module and they do not know when the part will be available.again.

Brake booster for this vehicle needed repair based on symptoms matching fsp 13N02, and the repair was also an exact match. Extended warranty coverage is provided by Ford for fsp 13N02 based on a date range, but Ford refused to acknowledge that the condition applied to this vehicle and would not cover the repair. I had this vehicle repaired at another shop (not Ford), and this shop said it should have been covered.

Brake pedal travels all the way to the floor during sudden stop situations and does not go back to normal. Will self correct after vehicle sits for a few hours. After mutiple occurrences and attempted repairs traction control and ABS lights illuminated. This helped the Ford dealer determine the defective parts. This vehicle has been at the dealer since 11/9/18 and there are still no Ford factory parts available. I was number 208 out of 228 on the back order list. An aftermarket parts was installed with out my knowledge or authorization and Ford will not provide any warranty for this part. I believe this is a safety concern that should be looked into.

When pressing on the break pedal, hissing and squealing noise occurs. Sometimes when pressing on break pedal, hard stop occurs rather than gradual slowing. Hissing and squealing occurs when the vehicle is both stopped and moving. Hard stop occurs when coasting/breaking slowly, hiss, then a jerk/hard stop occurs suddenly while driving. This happens on city street and highway. This has been ongoing for several months.

No set time the brakes fails. Goes to the floor instead of stopping and it doesn't matter what rate of speed you're traveling. Even after thinking Ford fixed it I almost got into an accident because the brakes failed. Ford fixed it by doing a flush, cost charged me a lot of money for nothing or they don't know what they're doing.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact heard an abnormal noise when the brake pedal was depressed. An independent mechanic stated that the vehcle exhibited the same failure related to customer satisfaction program number: 13N02 (extended warranty coverage on the brake booster). The manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from the service campaign and provided no remedy. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 73,584.

When I hit the brake hard or brake over a bumpy road the brake pedal goes to the floor and squeaking noise can be heard. I took the car to the Ford dealership for testing and repair and they said the problem is so common that the part is not available and on back order. While the car eventually stops, it is a hazard because if it fails you have to avoid rear ending a car in front of you that is stopped. This sometimes results in swerving off the road to avoid hitting that person. This is a manufacturer flaw.

Brake booster/diaphragm issue, known issue in other Edge models. Hissing noise when applying the brakes, spongy brake feel turning to excessive foot pressure needed to stop the car and, after stopping, brake pedal can be pushed to the floor. This issue first occurred during city driving and progressively got worse.

  • 84,189 miles
While driving my 2013 Ford Edge the brake system on my vehicle began to fail on the highway. When applying pressure on the brake pedal the brakes became very hard, the brake pedal was depressed to the floor but the car was still moving forward. There was also a hissing sound coming from the brake pedal. I was stopped at a red light, the seat warmer for the driver seat was on, and the car lunged forward and then the engine shut off automatically. The engine light came on and indicated low oil and to place the car in park. I placed the car in park, turned off the key in the ignition. I then turned the car back on and the warning light was off along with the seat warmer. I have to believe this was related to the braking issue creating a possible vacuum loss through the failed brake booster system and increasing the RPM's. the brake booster system in my car was repaired (84,189 miles) at tires plus at a cost of $700 and the loss of my vehicle for two days. The service advisor at tires plus called a local Ford dealer service advisor and after providing the VIN# for my car was advised it was not covered although this is a know issue and a technical service bulletin / cspn1302 has been issued and amended with supplement #1. Ford Motor Company needs to address this by either including/extending the current csp 13N02 or a recall to reimburse auto owners that are dealing with the failing brake boosters. This is a safety issue that is not going away.
