Edge Limited AWD 3.5L Ti-Vct V6

Within 2 days of door latch error light coming on, the door locks would go up and down while driving. Risk of injury could occur since the locking of the doors was intermittent. Was very concerned that the doors would open up while driving or that kids could open doors expectantly.

Other system error messages started to appear and the computer was working hard to try to keep to up.

the door ajar light comes on every time you start the engine. The interior lights stay on also making the battery run down. My husband and I were sitting in the car with nothing on..the key was not even in the ignition and the interior lights came on...it's like the car is possessed! Took the car to dealership and they said they were well aware of the problem but it's not a safety issue so not covered under warranty with this many miles. If they are so well aware Ford should stand behind the problem and cover expense to fix it. This is my first Ford and sorry to say may be the last. If they don't take responsibility for this, what is there was something really major wrong....hate to see hat would happen.

DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON WHEN DOOR IS FULLY CLOSED, DINGING SOUND AND WARNS TO PLACE CAR IN PARK. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY FORD THEY EVEN HAVE A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ON THE ISSUE. HOWEVER THE DEALER SUGGEST NOT FOLLOWING THE TECHNICAL BULLETIN SINCE THE CLEANING IT STATES TO DO IS NOT A LONG TERM SOLUTION. THE DEALER STATE THE DOOR LATCH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, CLEANING JUST WORKS FOR A LIMITED TIME.

MANY DISCUSSION ON LINE EXIST ABOUT THE SAME CONDITION. THESE ARE NOT OLD VEHICLES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO A DESIGN ISSUES AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. 1. INTERIOR LIGHTS CAN COME ON DUE TO THIS ISSUE AT ANY TIME CAUSING A BLINDING ISSUE WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. 2. UNABLE TO LOCK DOORS WHILE IN VEHICLE. 3. UNABLE TO KNOW IF THE DOOR IS REALLY CLOSED PROPERLY. 4. THREE WARNINGS CONTINUE TO POP UP CONTINUALLY WHILE DRIVING THAT ENGINE IS ON, SHIFT TO PARK AND DOOR AJAR.

PLEASE REQUEST THAT FORD DOES THE RIGHT THING FOR SAFETY AND RECALLS THIS DEFECTIVE PART.

While my 2013 Edge was under warranty my car died out of nowhere. The door ajar bell had come on a couple of time, but the light never did. My kids told me the same thing had happened to them a couple times when they used my car. I explained this to the dealership after I had to jump my car to start it and get it to the dealership to be fixed. They told me those things can sometimes happen when a battery was going bad. They replaced the battery and said it was faulty, but never checked into anything else that I talked to them about. Now several months down the road I am having the same door ajar sound, but now I also have the light coming on too. This lasted for a couple of days and when I would reshut the door it stopped. Now the light stays on, the interior lights stay on (draining my battery), my car doors will not stay locked and my car tells me to stop and put my car into park.

My husband has a spinal cord injury and I don't know if he will ever work again. I am working 2 jobs and about to start a 3rd soon. Like that isn't enough I know have to deal with this issue when I don't have the time or money. Now I have less than the average mileage on my car at about 30,000 on a car I've had 4years, but this still is not covered by warranty or recall. This is a safety issue and something Ford has known about for a while now and have done nothing about. WHY?

I actually paid $300.00 for my door latch to be replaced BUT Ford wanted to charge me $600.00. I had it replaced at a local body shop. After having it replaced I found out it was a recall BUT not on my vehicle which pisses me off because I had to pay for an obvious common problem in ford vehicles it seems like!!! I would have never replaced it except I have a 3 year old and if I were to be in an accident there could have been serious problems.

In about March or April of 2015, the driver's door on our Edge would not close right. The door ajar would come on. If I continued to shut it, it finally would close. When the light was on the door lock would not work. This continued and I call Parkway Ford in Dickinson, ND, becaue it got to the point where the ajor light would never come off. I was told our warranty had run out so it would not be covered. As we are 70 miles from Dickinson and it would not be covered anyway, I took it to a body shop in Hettinger. He replaced the sensor and it now works fine.. He had also talked to the Ford Motor company and was told they thought there would be a recall on it. Soooo when the Ford Company recalled cars for door problems, I got excited. Little did I know my Ford Edge was not included in that recall!!!

I feel the 347.00 it cost me to fix this door problem should also be covered. I have read on the internet about other people having this problem. I have a copy of the bill and also the replaced part.

Hopefully you are on my side!! Thank you.

Sincerely,

Karen Ormiston

Edge SEL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

Bought my 2013 Edge used with 40K miles on it. Drove it for 9 months with no issues then started getting door ajar warning for drivers door. At first I would open and close the door a few times and it would go off. After a few weeks of it happening sporadically it became a permanent issue. Door is definitely closed completely, but dome lights stay on, door ajar warning on dash, warnings and chimes when driving.

Every time I take my foot off the brake pedal it tells me "shift to park" and chimes at me. Also the doors will not lock/ stay locked when car is in motion- i feel this is a safety issue as doors could fly open in a crash. Dome light impedes visibility at night- no way to shut it off, especially when in reverse. dome lights stays on after car is parked- sometimes they shut off after a few minutes, sometimes they stay on all night- I've had to jump start my car a few times already because the lights stayed on all night long and drained the battery.

I've seen a lot of complaints about this issue- many folks have paid hundreds of dollars to have it repaired only to have the issue repeat itself in a few months. I am a single mom on a budget and can't afford to spend $400 to fix something that I'm going to need to fix again over and over. Ford needs to issue a recall to take care of this problem

Bought this Edge Aug. 2012. No problems until a month ago when door ajar light would come on. Opening & closing the door was a fix & problem was only intermittent. Today, In addition to "door ajar" message, started getting "shift to park" messages with alarms sounding, interior lights came on & stayed on. Unable to lock the doors. This was during the day so no problem driving. Should this occur at night, this will be a huge safety issue. Although the issue started intermittently, it is occurring daily & sometimes multiple times in a day. Will contact dealer tomorrow.

Only had 25,000 plus miles on car & door ajar light kept coming on. It would come on sometimes when I let the window up or down. May have to shut door 8-10 times before light would go off. I took it into service dept where I purchased the car. It was covered under warranty, but I still had to pay my deductible. If it is a problem with these cars, I should not have had to pay anything at all.

Edge SEL

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,800 miles

I purchased my 2013 Ford Edge in August of 2014. As I was driving off the lot, the lights came on inside the vehicle and the door ajar light was lit on the dashboard. The sales rep was still in the lot (dealership had closed) and appeared he was familiar with the issue. He opened and closed the door a few times and it went off. He told me to bring it back in for service and they would fix the issue. It occurred several times over the next week, but had family in town so, had to wait until they left. I brought my vehicle in for service and they advised the issue was fixed. It appeared to be fixed for a few months, but then started doing it again. I brought it up to a different dealership when I brought my vehicle in for the brakes failing (another huge issue that I found on here). They advised they would have to look at it to determine if it would be covered under warranty and if it wasn't, I would have to pay for them to just look at it. This is a HUGE safety issue and I can not believe this is not a safety recall. The door locks will NOT lock if the engine is started and the door ajar light is on. You try and lock the doors and they immediately unlock. How is this not a safety issue Ford?!?!?!?! Besides the fact that it's very distracting driving in the dark at night with the lights on. The other night while I was driving, the lights came on and the light was lit on the dashboard. How does this happen when you're already driving? I will NEVER buy another Ford. Fix this problem as a SAFETY RECALL Ford or you're going to lose a lot of business!! If I'm in a situation where someone is trying to get in my car and my doors will not lock, we're going to have a SERIOUS problem!!

Edge SEL 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,000 miles

On y 2013 Ford Edge SEL AWD with 36,600 miles the door ajar indicator stays on, even when door is closed and latched. This causes a number of issues: the door chime sounds when car starts in motion, which is very annoying in stop-and-go traffic; doors will not stay locked, which is a safety concern; interior dome light stays lit at night when first starting in motion, which is a safety issue.

I was hoping that the issue, which obviously is a manufacturing/design defect, would be covered in a recall notice. So far it has not and I hesitate to pay several hundred $ for a dealer "fix" that does not really resolve the problem.I have read that the cost (parts & labor) is in the $400.00. Of course this problem comes up just as the vehicle goes out of warranty due to mileage.

Update from Jun 5, 2016: Ford dealer disassembled the door to get access to the door latch w/module. They attached an electronic tool to the module connector and applies a high current to the contact cycling the contacts about 20 times thus burning off any corrosion. Door was then reassembled.

Note: NO parts were replaced.

Total Cost: $394.00

Problem seems to have been resolved. Have entered a complaint at www.safercar.gov/Vehicle+Owners. Hopefully there will be a recal whereas I will be able to recoop some money spent.

Bought FORD EDGE used from non-Ford dealer. Problem developed almost immediately. Since car was bought "As Is" I'm stuck with fixing it myself. Replace door lock is best solution. Cost is about $400 to replace. Very annoying.

With all the complaints, Ford should pay for the crappy door latch.

I have a 2013 Ford Edge that here lately I can not get the door ajar light to shut off. It does not matter how hard or soft is shut it, it will stay on. I drive 30 mins to work everyday. It is a big safety hazard. When i do get it to shut and i hit the littlest bump in the road and it says my door is ajar. Then my interior lights come on and it starts to ding, then it tells me to put it into park. I only have 55,500 miles on it. My boyfriend thought I was crazy. lol till it did it to him just today. ford service center said it would be 110 dollars just to look at it, and its most likely not covered under our extended warranty. thats crazy so how much is the part and labor going to be. I will also be complaining everyday to ford till i get the result that is needed to get this fixed. I have three kids and the ford edge is our only way of transportation. Im highly upset about this. Is there anyway i can to an easy fix till i can afford to get it fixed? Im about ready to blow it up. lol wish i could.

i just bought this car used. I paid $140.00 for a certified AAA pre-inspection. They said it was ok. 1 week after I got it this problem started. The system on the car said no problems and it has said that since the problem started. I just paid quite a bit for the car and I am not looking forward to going into Ford to let them stick it to me. I have also read on here that it is a recurring problem. I am so pissed.

Ford should stand up and fix this issue if it is so common.I do not want to go to ford and pay through the nose. I just bought the car with less than 60k on it. What is the permanent fix ? And how much does it cost?
