The door ajar light would come on when starting the car, randomly when it was running. It stayed on when I shut the door, leaving the lights on and not allowing me to lock it. Or use my remote start! No recall because it is not a safety issue? How about a dead battery and a stolen car? Or how do we trust that the door is open if the light is always on???

I had this problem about 20,000 kms ago and now it is back again. Tired of spending money on a known problem that Ford is aware is an ongoing issue with all 2013 Ford Edge. They should do a recall and fix the problem as it is pain in the ass and is dangerous and my door locks no longer work. PLEASE COME UP WITH A RECALL AND FIX THE PROBLEM.

This issue started after my vehicle was broken into but they never wrecked anything so I'm not sure if it was coincidence or related. Usually happens more when it's cold than warm. Minus 20 it REALLY doesn't want to believe my closed door is in fact closed and latched. Sometime I stand and open and close my door 30 times before it will recognize the latch. I always make my horn honk now when locking as when its "not latched" it beeps twice. Will look into the cost for repair, not thrilled Ford won't cover it. And it started AFTER my extended warranty expired.. of course.

Started with the back left door and is now happening on driver's side door as well. Super annoying!
- Shawn C., Los Angeles, CA, US
Problem was already fixed once by dealership. Ford is aware of this ongoing issue but has not come up with a solution to fix the problem permanently. Not very good customer service this was our first Ford and may be our last. Ford find a permanent solution to fix this and do a massive recall.

The door ajar alarm comes on when the key is put in and stays on until key is removed. Also causes interior lights to stay on.

This car is only 4 plus years old. Why is this failing? Never had this issue before with any car I've owned. On top of that, since I've had the car so long and have taken such good care of it, I now get punished because it's not under warranty. Hey Ford, longtime customer, fix this thing at no charge. Maybe it's time for a change??
- Michael B., La Quinta, US
This is beyond annoying. The light comes even while driving, it's running my battery dry. This is a major problem.

On 8/19/16 The dealer removed the door latch, simply cleaned it and lubricated it. They said it was now working and would not replace the door latch. It is now doing the same thing after 1 year and about 6 months. I paid $100.00 deductible as it was still covered under warranty to have them just clean it.

This issue was a complete pain in the ass to say the least. The latch was replaced and the issue was fixed, haven't had issues with that door since. The issue moved on to another door but that will be in a separate complaint.

Here we go again, my 3rd trip to the dealer over the same bullshit!

Door latch won't sense closed causing the car to think the door is open. This causes the security system to sense a door opening, and turns on the lights and horn to activate repeatedly until the battery discharges. In addition to the security system draining the battery by repeatedly activating, the constant horn honking has burned out my bass horn, causing the remaining horn to be barely audible, useless and dangerous. I had a vehicle pull out in front of me tonight and was unable to honk a warning that I was there because my horn simply has no volume or depth.
This has happened many times with the horn and lights flashing until they reset, then starts again until the battery is dead. I replaced the battery a year ago and this winter I discovered the battery dead several times when parked. I was stranded outside in sub freezing temperatures on January 2, 2018 with a dead battery because of this problem with the door latch causing the vehicle to sense a door opening and discharging the battery.
I am a 60 year old who suffers from Diabetes, High blood pressure and cancer of the Digestive system. I cannot afford to stand out in sub freezing and sub zero temperatures due to health issues. The only reason I have had to do so was because of this faulty Door latch in my 2013 Ford Edge with only 33,000 miles and is out of warranty because it's older than 36 months keeps discharging the battery, and ruins the horn. At least once I felt that my life was in peril waiting for help to arrive with the temperature below 0 on the evening of January 2, 2018. This has continued often, I've found the vehicle dead in my drive, had neighbors complain that my car was honking in the middle of the night and eventually the low base horn burned out completely causing the vehicle to be dangerous to me and others when the horn needs to be used.
Ford needs to address this issue and fix it before someone gets killed either by freezing with a dead battery caused by the door fault, or gets into an accident because the horn simply doesn't alert others the way it is supposed to.

The driver's door ajar won't turn off unless you bang the door really hard. If you don't close it properly, alarm will goes off.
- Joachim P., Mississauga, ON, Canada
The ajar issue cost me 500 dollars in the dealer in 2016. This issue comes up again recently! It is so annoying that I am already out of warranty! I don't want to go back to pay 500 dollars again!

The door ajar light does not go off, the car dings telling me I need to put the car in park as I'm driving down the road, but the door is actually latched.

ITS BULL S--T.I JUST BROUGHT THE CAR TO FORD, 627.00 FOR DOOR HANDLE REPLACEMENT. YOU READ ONLINE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. FORD HAS A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS ISSUE & THEY ACT STUPID LIKE THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING.
- Mitchell S., Alpharetta, US
Does not always happen; intermittent. The dome light can stay on sometimes. If it continues to get worse it will cause battery drain and start failure.
- Drew O., Oceanside, CA, US
At first this seemed to happen in the spring only and I thought is was moisture related but then we realized it is quite random. Took it to the dealership several times while under warranty and it would go away for a short time, likely they cleaned it. I have tried to clean it myself and as said it goes away for short amounts of time. Obvious poor engineering and a shame Ford won't take ownership for the problem. This alone is the reason I won't buy another Ford even though we loved the car otherwise. Can't trust them even when there is a wave of feedback supporting a recall.
- EDWARD M., South Salem, NY, US
Had to open back door, slam front driver's door before I could get the car to lock and interior lights to go off this morning. Spent the last few days slamming the door several times to get the sensor to work, caution light to go off.

I have had this repaired twice from 2 different Ford Dealers and the problem continues. Ford dealer in Jacksonville, FL did not even want to fool with repair the second time I took it back to them.
