TSB 22-2229 Had dealer change spark plugs, while attempting broke spark plug off in head. Reported they would have to replace the head. More investigation led them to TSB 22-2229 and a boroscope of the head found coolant intrusion. Now the dealer states it will cost me 6500$ to repair the long block due to the coolant intrusion. This is a known problem with 2014-2018 Ford Edge and Ford Escapes as well as other vehicles. Copied from a law group website who is filing a class action lawsuite "Experts recommend that customers notify the Ford motor company as soon as possible once they identify an issue. These problems are not always simple and could cause dangerous consequences. If the leak inside it is left unfixed, it could cause problems with the engine and cause a rear-drive axle seizure." A quick search of this has hundreds of complaints stating this issue. This is not just a rear drive axle seizure issue. This could cause a fire in the engine due to coolant in the combustion. The check engine code did display with a P0300 MISFIRE Cylinder 3 code on it.

My vehicle only has 77K miles on it and is already needing an entirely new engine due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder. We discovered this after replacing all the spark plugs in the vehicle and the check engine light not disengaging. You should not have to replace an entire engine with only 77K miles. This is a known issue with FORD referencing two bulletin's - the first bulletin #19-2346 and now with bulletin #22-2133. They are refusing to cover the repairs 100% and expecting the consumer to pay 40% of the cost of their known issue of a $10K repair ticket. It also clearly states in the recent bulletin that the MIL may or may not engage with this issue. If we had know that this was an issue with this vehicle inside the 5 year/60K mile powertrain warraty which would have covered the repairs 100% we would have taken care of it then. The MIL was never engaged and provided any indication that this was going on. It was discovered after the MIL engaged at 77K miles and we took it in for service and had all spark plugs replaced costing almost $300 in repairs just to discover that did not resolve the check engine light to stop illuminating. This vehicle has been maticulously maintained since taking ownership of it in 2018. All service records are available if needed.

Edge

  • 78,000 miles
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving on an incline at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle went into Limp Mode and stalled. The coolant temperature warning light and the engine safe mode light illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed that the spark plugs and injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that he noticed light smoke coming from the exhaust and smelled a burning odor. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the lower engine block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that a portion of the cost for the repair would be covered. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

My 2018 Ford Edge has 85k miles. Recently it began vibrating on startup even after the auto-shut off button was activated. The rough idle began interfering with my ability to maintain adequate attention on the road and created significant feelings of anxiety each at every braking. Vehicle check engine light would come on and then go off. On 8/26/22 vehicle was inspected by Beach Ford who completed a fuel injector treatment. After picking up vehicle the check engine light reappeared. Attempted to contact service agent by cell phone because dealership stated that was the only way to communicate but did not receive reply. Changed all spark plugs and coils due to code P0303. Check engine light still on so contacted Beach Ford again and on 9/9/22 they confirmed the issue as a coolant leak appearing on the -€œbulletin-€ as a commonly known defect for my vehicle. The dealership stated I would need a new engine and since the warranty only covers up to 60k miles I would have to pay the full price of over $7500. Any symptoms of a problem were immediately addressed by dealership within one week of onset each time. Dealership completed work on a recall 6/10/22 and mentioned nothing about the -€œknown service defect-€ nor did they document completing any routine inspections out of courtesy since Ford had this information at that time and I (the unknowing consumer) did not.

My car needs a new engine. I got an oil change in March and everything was fine with the engine. Then in June a cloud of smoke came out of my tail pipe when I started the car, but since at this time the car had been sitting I thought this was the cause. A couple days later my check engine light came on and an indicator stating my coolant was hot when i was accelerating getting on the fwy. I checked the coolant and it below the minimum which was odd since i had gotten an oil change and topped off my fluids only a couple months before. I added coolant and the indicator and check engine light went off. My check engine light, another billow of smoke and my car stating my coolant was overheating happened again early July and I tool my vehicle in on July 18th to get looked at. It was inspected by a technician and was informed that it needed a new engine because the coolant leaked into the engine. It was inspected again by portfolio ins co and because I can-€™t find a receipt they will not fix it until I can. And Ford even though this is a common issue on my year make and model they will only cover it until 60,000 miles. I bought my car with 38,000 miles on it. It has been a month already and my car is still just sitting at the Ford dealership.

Check Engine light came on in June of 2022 and the code was for a cylinder one misfire. Took the vehicle to dealership where they confirmed it is a known issue amongst this make, model, and year. They determined coolant was leaking into the engine and the only repair was replacement of the engine. They told us there was a bulletin issued by Ford for the problem but no recall. The engine had to have coolant replaced several times over a short period of time. The leak caused burn off of the coolant that in turn changes exhaust. The engine can overheat and cause larger damage because there is no indicator to alert or warn of low coolant. The issue poses an environmental and safety risk as the vehicle can shut off at random and reach temperatures that can cause a fire.

We have 64,000 miles on this car. A p0303 code came on and took vehicle to ford. Mechanic said we need a new engine and quoted us $7,584. We were told that we're 4,000 over our warranty and the dealership and ford will not pay a cent toward repair. This is a well known issue with the 2.0 turbo engine. There are numerous accounts of this engine failing and still ford turns a blind eye. There is a t.s.b. #22-2229 and ford will not fix this. This needs to be addressed with ford and they need to pay for their failure. Thank you.

Vehicle started going through coolant with no signs of leaks anywhere. We took it to multiple mechanics and no one could find any coolant leaks. We were still putting coolant in every other week, again no signs of leaks anywhere but empty coolant tank. Turns out the coolant was going straight into the motor mixing with the oil causing it to slowly seize up. The repair shop it-€™s at told us this issue wasn-€™t preventative maintenance but a mechanical failure on Ford-€™s part and their 2.0 eco boost engines. According to some Ford forums this failure is common with the 2.0 eco boost motor. There-€™s also a class action lawsuit pending against Ford for this mechanical failure of theirs. This repair is nearly 10 thousand dollars (who has 10k for repairs?! we-€™re still making payments on the thing) This has put our family without our vehicle for quite some time. The slow breakdown of our 2018 vehicle has been frustrating and disappointing to say the least. This is a Ford mechanical failure and they need to be held financially accountable for a faulty product they know is failing.

Engine light came on. Vehicle brought to dealership. Needs new engine 75k miles. Due to "porous engine block". Extended warranty company will not fix because it is a "known manufacturing defect" ($8200) Codes pulled p0303 p0316 Ford is risking the safety of all who are driving these vehicles and those who may be on the road with one. The FIRE RISK associated with this KNOWN DEFECT needs to be addressed.
