My car over heated while driving. So I pulled over and let it cool down. I then took it to the shop and I was told I needed a new cylinder head when asked why it over heated they refereed to the coolant system but didn't know why the coolant was getting there. After doing some research online the way they explained everything seems very similar to the recall number 17V209000 or Ford recall number 17S09

Low coolant light appeared. Had oil changed/fluids topped. A week later, coolant light appeared and check engine light came on. Took it back to place that changed my oil. Coolant was not low. They used a diagnostic code reader that indicated cylinder 2 had misfired 3 times (I was unaware). A few days later, took it to have checked (Firestone). They used a diagnostic code that said the same thing but one of the mechanics related he had just fixed a Ford Escape having the same issue and that they had then figured out there was a recall for the problem. Ford says my VIN is not included in the recall. There has been no leak noted this entire time. The engine light went off. I drove it approximately 25 minutes, went in to a business for 2 hours, came back out and started the car, pulled out of the parking lot and saw the check engine light and a message that the engine was overheating and pull over safely (which I did immediately). There was no obvious sign that the engine was overheating (steam, odor, leaking, etc). The vehicle would only start, but would not accelerate at all. Had it towed to johnson city Ford which told me that they would have to drop the engine to determine the cause ($1700) and that the total repair job would cost between $3500-$7000+ depending on the cause and damage (may have to have a new motor!). he then told me it would be about 3 +weeks before they could repair it since there are 5 just like it waiting to be serviced! I questioned him about this. He related that there were 5 Ford Escapes with a coolant low/overheating issue currently in their shop. My vehicle was bought brand new. It is garage kept and serviced regularly. I do not understand how a vehicle that is well-kept and has under 90,000 miles can suddenly, without warning or reason, have this kind of issue" why hasn't there been a recall on this issue"

A week after purchasing 2/21/2017. The Escape starting running hot then it shut down the car acceleration. Took it back because it under the factory warranty, they said the head gasket were blown and leaking coolant into the engine. Mind you it only ran hot for one minute. They repaired it. A year later in February before my birthday 2/26- I say 2/19. The transmission went out, they repaired that. A recall on own coolant valve was fixed by dealer. Now in the beginning of March the water pump and engine problem has come back. If fill this model of 2014 Ford Escape is a lemon and I should be compensated for all my inconvenience. It been nothing but a money drain and the dealership is robbing me. I took it up there to see if they could repair the problem, but they said my warranty has expired. The told me the water pump needed to be fix and it will cost $1,300 and that I have to pay that before the can look at head gasket. To much to pay and there charging a service fee which is ok but the never said anything about a storage fee. I had a trip schedule for dominican republic. She told me they left a message days after but never received it. I asked if they can wave the storage fee and I'll pay the rest but was told they can't do so. I asked to speak with the manager and was told he won't be back until Monday and it Friday. Called corporate they were no help at all. Ford Motor Company is the worst car company and they do not help there customers. Poor customer service and no solution to a problem that they no this car is known for. I'll be taking legal action in a civil suit against Ford. Thank you for listening and if anyone has a solution please contact me. Thank you. ( I will never think Ford first- your last). They want $160 for storage.

Shortly after starting the car (on a cool fall day) a warning came on the dash saying "stop immediately, engine overheating". this caused the car to limit my ability to drive therefore I had O slowly stop at curbside of highway. I checked the coolant which was basically gone. Which didn't seem right especially since I had just purchased the car two months prior. Additionally, the engine wasn't smoking or visibly showing signs of overheating. When I took it to the shop they were not able to identify any issues. There were no pools of liquid underneath the car that would indicate a leak. However, the issue got worse and I have had to fill the coolant tank every other week. Took the Escape into the dealership, they said it would be a hose leak and the coolant needed to be flushed for 800 dollars. I didn't have the money, so took it to another shop. That shop ran tests but couldn't find a leak in the hosing system nor could they see signs of coolant on other parts of the engine. My car continued to suck down coolant for no apparent reason until finally the timing belt broke.

Our 2014 Ford Escape was recently under repair for the Jan 2018 coolant recall. It was completed on Mar 15, 2019. On Mar 16, 2019. Our vehicle had driven on the freeway for 3 hrs for a distance of 200 miles and upon exiting the freeway and stopping at a stoplight. My vehicle stopped moving and managed to get it onto a gas station parking lot.. I had it towed the nearest car dealership and they had diagnosed it and came back with the transmission and coolant being the issue. They are currently wanting to charge us a large amount of money to fox the repairs and transmission. I noticed that there is a recall for the transmission as of Sept 2018. No recall message has been sent out yet. However. I believe my vehicle is affected as it would make an unusual sound from time to time when shifting from park, reverse, or drive as if it got stuck. I would love to have someone from the Ford assist me with this because it doesnt make sense for me to deal with this if this has been a discovered issue. Please assist me in this matter. Thank you.

Vehicle had a recall for coolant sensor fixed in 01/2018. Since then coolant has run low, been checked numerous times, had hoses replaced, several diagnostic tests looking for problems, car has since overheated, and is now in need of a new engine because of coolant system problem not fixed by a sensor alerting you to a level of fluid. No leak exists so cooling fluid is working its way through the engine system some other way. The problem has persisted for nearly 7 months now. The vehicle ran emergency messages on the dash mere minutes after starting stating that the engine was overheating and to immediately exit the vehicle.

Manufacturer name : Ford Motor Company NHTSA recall no. / mfr recall no. : 17V-209 / 17S09 recall subject : engine cylinder head may leak oil when sitting at a stop light, a message came up on my message board "service engine now". the vehicle started to shudder and then smoke came out from under my hood. I turned the vehicle off immediately, while still sitting at the light, and got out. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford dealership and stated the head needed to be replaced due to a cracked cylinder head with an estimated of $3500. I did not receive notice of the recall referenced above. My vehicle has been "losing" coolant, which I had been refilling quite often with no visible leaks or puddles. If I had known of the recall this could have been prevented. Due to an issue by the manufacturer, I am now somehow responsible to fix their problem. This has happened on many other vehicles and should be corrected by the company. I am thankful I did not have my young daughter with me at the time.

There was a recall on the coolant system, to add a sensor due to Ford having cars blowing motors. After this recall was done, I had the car in the garage on and off for over a month, to find out that th coolant was leaking into the number 4 cylinder. So, they replace the motor, not sure about the heads. Then with in weeks trouble with the transmission.

Car occasionally died at stop lights, signs and once on the exit ramp while exiting a highway. Occasional to often rough running especially at low speed and odd shifts from the transmission. Surging in the engine while at highway speed and when slowing to stop. Engine fault message would come up in display and I took a picture, showed it to service manager with no success. Computer would not store codes when these problems occurred so on 4 separate trips to the dealership I was told there was nothing that could be done and to continue to drive it and bring it in if it happened again. Vehicle finally died and check engine light came on and stayed on. Had it towed to the dealership and a signal return for map wiring problem was diagnosed and repaired. After some reading I believe there have been service advisories and possibly a recall for certain VIN's. I told the dealership I did not feel safe driving the vehicle with the problems it was having but it made no difference.

I was driving down the highway at a normal rate of speed (65), as by vehicle began to stall out. The car stopped driving right on the highway, and I was barely able to pull it to the shoulder without getting hit by other cars. Once I pulled to the shoulder, the car began smoking. Smoke quickly filled the inside of the vehicle. Before I could roll all the windows down, the engine had burst into flames.

My 2014 Ford Escape, with a 1.6L gtdi ecoboost engine, built in louisville, ky in March 2014 leaks engine coolant. I purchased this vehicle on June 6, 2014. I have put my VIN into the NHTSA national recall site and it says my car is not recalled. However, Ford safety recall 17S09 supplemental #1, dated December 13, 2017, and NHTSA campaign number 17V209, affecting 230,000 2014 Escapes clearly states that my vehicle, manufactured in March 2014, should be in the recall since it was built in louisville between Feb 13, 2013 and Sept 2, 2014, the recall timeline. My car, leaking engine coolant, is exactly that described in Ford safety recall 17S09. In the past 10 weeks or so I have noticed coolant on my garage floor and have filled the coolant reservoir at least 8 times. At one time the heater did not work and the reservoir was nearly empty. I am concerned about the possibility of an overheated engine causing the cylinder to crack and spew oil resulting in a possible engine fire. I currently have approximately 39,000 miles on this vehicle. If this vehicle VIN is not recalled, I certainly would like a detailed answer why it is not since it meets all the parameters of safety recall 17S09 supplemental #1 and NHTSA campaign number 17V209. Thank you.
