Escape

  • 74,000 miles
Posting date: July-29, 2018 (Sunday) vehicle : 2014 Ford Escape titanium 4X4 (4-cylinder turbo engine, automatic transmission) vehicle loses transmission power. Three weeks ago I came out of a freeway and tried to make a right turn on a fast moving local road. I made the turn and pressed the accelerator but the car would not move. The engine revved up but there was no motion. I had to immediately turn on the hazard flash lights to warn approaching vehicles behind. Finally I pressed the accelerator "slowly" and the car did move and pick up speed. There were no further issues that day. I had sensed "bumpy gear shifts" and "jerky accelerations" even before the above incident. I instinctively "knew" that things were not right but did not know exactly what it was. Two days ago my wife called me at work and said that after backing out from the garage, the car was not picking up speed. The "check engine" light had also come up. She somehow limped slowly back into the garage. When I returned home, I tried it too. I found that only the "rear drive" was working. The "forward drive" hardly worked. Often while in "drive" mode, the car rolled backwards on our mildly sloped driveway! using "the lowest gear" I somehow put it back into the garage. Yesterday I got it towed to the nearest Ford dealership. Being a Saturday, they could not do anything more. They said they will look into it tomorrow (Monday). I consider this to be a major safety issue. I am lucky that I did not lose complete power on the freeway and nothing bad has happened so far to me or my wife. Reading about others' experiences on the internet on the same model year vehicle, it seems that they might have faced much more dangerous situations. Please investigate this problem seriously and notify the vehicle manufacturer.

2014 Ford Escape 4X2 overflow coolant tank causing coolant to leak. 230,000 cars have been repaired by Ford but they will not repair mine without a $230+cost. For some unknown reason my serial number is not covered. Lack of coolant leads to overheating and cracked head gasket. The car did reduce power and sound a pull over immediately warning on 2 occasions. The car has 55,000 miles.

Summary: In October 2018 I took the vehicle in for recall 17S09/nhtsa17V-209 to have the sensors put on. Then March 2018 I took verhicle in for parts to repair the leak.. however after the parts were put on the vehicle had to go back because the coolant light came on about late May. The dealership was very nice at looking at and resolving the problem. Then in June the light came on again and the coolant was low. Dealer check. They discovered the coolant leaking back into the engine. This was not a problem until this recall was done. I attempted to escalate this through Ford cares and obviously they don't. the only response I have is - this is not related to the recall. Plus they continued to tell me I do not have any warranty left on this vehicle which I am well of aware of. The recall specifcally states the leak will cause a crack in the cylyinders. That is exactly what happened. We complied with everything Ford asked of us regarding this recall.

In Jan 2018 I took the vehicle in for recall 17S09/nhtsa17V-209 to have the sensors put on. Initially the dealer did not have the parts, the part were put on in Feb. However after the parts were put on the vehicle had to go back because he coolant light came on about late April. The dealership was very nice at looking at and resolving the problem. Then in June the light came on again and the coolant was low. No signs of leakage and I was hesitant to replace so I had the dealer check. They discovered the coolant leaking back into the engine. This was not a problem until this recall was done. I attempted to escalate this through Ford cares and obviously they don't. the only response I have is - this is not related to the recall. I am a single mom, in a rental and now repairs of over 4K.

While in motion on the interstate doing 75 mph my car started making a ticking sound. I wasn't sure what it was at the time but I knew it was good. While getting off the exit I noticed my breaks were going out. They were very hard to push down and it barely made my car stop. I took it to a new by place that was able to read some codes. My check engine light had come on and the codes came up as cam shaft position sensor. I replaced the sensor and it did not fix the problem. I then took my car to the Ford dealership where I live. At this point it had died twice on the interstate and still made a horrible ticking sound. The dealership told me that my vacuum pump had come loose and the bolt had gotten metal in my engine which destroyed my engine. There were no warning signs when this happened and it happened very fast. My car started fine that day and drive fine up until the incident. This is a big safety concern and I've read several of people who had this same issue. I am now having to replace the engine and the turbo of my car out of pocket.

Escape

  • 50,000 miles
I was driving my 2014 Ford Escape for about 10 min. On whitney mill rrd. In Ontario county New York. When I got an alert on my dash board. It said engine over heating pull over ( or something along those lines) I look down at the tempeture gage as I was pulling over. The needle was in perfect position between hot and cold. After I stooped ( about 30 seconds at T he most) I got out, open the hood and saw flames coming up in the back of the engine between the engine and firewall. I instructed my wife to get herself and the dog out of the vehicle. Then I began throwing snow onto the area where the fire was coming from. In my opinion keeping the fire contained. The fire department eventually show up ( guessing 15 min.) they took over from that point. Sprayed fire extinguisher on the engine and remove pieces of the engine compartment to get a better look at the fire and make sure it was out. Then a tow truck came and took it away.

I was driving up the interstate after work and while I was driving I began to notice smoke. I looked around and realized it was my car. I pulled over to the side and my car started flashing everything on the dash panel was red and flashing engine failure. I cut the car off and then went to try and pop the hood, I couldn't get it opened and I looked down and began to see flames. I called 911 and my car engulfed in flames. I had a recall on my car for a problem with the engine cylinder head saying that it could cause an engine fire if oils were to get out and hit a hot surface. I got my recall fixed and then my car caught on fire a few weeks later.

The car consumes coolant at a rate of about 3-4 quarts in the 5 months I've owned it. I noticed it while changing the oil. I am aware that other vins from my car's model year and engine style are eligible for a recall concerning this issue, which can cause the engine to catch fire. (recall code 17V209) I am unclear as to why my VIN is not on the recall list, when it was made in the same factory, within the identified timeframe, with the same engine, and exhibiting the same dangerous problem.
