Loss of power steering. After experiencing loss of power steering on multiple occasions I performed online research and became aware of safety recall 14S06. I contacted Ford for resolution and they informed me my vehicle is not subject to recall. The vehicle with some 19,000 miles is our of warranty (>36 months). Ford indicated that any repairs for this dangerous condition would be at owner expense. The vehicle was produced on the assembly line in Chicago which was the origin of the vehicle defect which prompted the recall. However, it appears to have been assembled approximately 1 month after the recall cut-off. I contend that the defect was still present and the recall should be broadened. This is a serious defect with potential life threatening consequences. Ford has been unreceptive in even investigating the matter. The vehicle was moving on the occasions when the power steering failed, while negotiating a curve. My professional driver indicated that the car had to be stopped and the vehicle restarted to reset the power steering. No driver feedback of a trouble code.

Started my engine. Truck was in park and I feel this bouncing/shaking which is quite strange. Have no idea what that can be and how dangerous it is while driving. The tailgate lift is unsafe. It does not detect when someone is under it when it lowers. I did not know the person behind the car had pushed the button on tailgate to lift it. My daughter had bent over placing things in back. Unknown to me, I pushed the button inside car to lift the gate, but instead it lowered. It could have squeezed the breath out of my daughter.

I currently own a 2013 Ford Explorer that has approximately 51K miles. I've noticed on more than one occasion, that during periods of sustained driving we experience odor of certain gases or fumes. These odors are not constant, but they are present within the cab even while the windows are secure. Again, the only experiences of these incidents so far are during periods of driving for 2 or more hours continuously. I've checked with the Ford Motor Company, and searched online and I haven't found any recall information regarding emission problems of this nature. We, our family would appreciate if more research could be done on this matter. We personally believe that may lead to a health related illness/injury. Under heavy acceleration (I.e. highway on-ramp), a very strong odor (burning rubber, exhaust?) enters the cabin. This happens every time, whether the ac is on or off, recirculating or fresh air. I purchased my vehicle from the jennings anderson Ford dealer. It had around 17,000 miles on it. Shortly after I vehicle, I brought it in because the exhaust fumes are being sucked into the vehicle when I accelerate such as getting on the freeway. David savinich (service adviser) told me that Ford was aware of the problem and they had a fix for it. They installed their fix but it is still sucking in exhaust fumes. I talked to jeff asher (service dept manager) and I asked him whether Ford had a fix for it. I was told no. I asked jeff to call me if there was a fix. It has been over a year and their is still no repair. I get a bad headache every time I get on the freeway. It is so bad that it also makes me nauseated. I am unable to use the air conditioner recirculatation in the car.

On several occasions within the past 3 weeks, while attempting to put our vehicle into "park" we received a warning light that we needed to "shift to park", except the shifter was placed in the park position every time; this occurred to both my husband and myself. I was afraid the vehicle would not stay in park on hills or slopes in parking lots and in my sloped driveway where there are lots of small children playing and riding bikes because of this warning and would roll away killing someone. Recently, our Explorer would not start, our key fobs would not lock or unlock the doors; I was stranded. This last time on August 24, 2015 I contacted Ford roadside assistance to tow it to the closest Ford dealership to find out what was wrong. Turns out the shifter was defective and as a result it drained the battery. It cost me $672.39 to replace the shifter and the battery; which is a lot of money when your out of work/retired with health issues. I also kept the old part for evidence. I talked to another Ford Explorer owner who also had the same problem and to date there is no recall I suppose because no one is dead, yet.

Despite the plethora of claims posted on this site about exhaust inside the cabin of 2011-2015 Explorer, and repeated information that the "tsb" Ford has issued does not work, NHTSA has failed to act. How dare you continue to allow so many lives to be put in unnecessary danger" what is the cost of life over Ford's bottom line? who must die? is my accident where I suddenly passed out and wrecked not enough? do you know how it feels when you're told by a pediatrician that your 8 year old may have permanent brain and pulmonary damage from chronic exposure to carbon monoxide and exhaust? why have you done nothing? I'm a single mother who was willing to pay $52K so that I could have a safe vehicle for my family, and instead we are being poisoned. I have had this vehicle in 6 times with no resolution and Ford refuses to buy it back. I have been repeatedly been lied to that the issue is the ptu and continued to drive with my children unaware we were being poisoned for 60K miles. I cannot afford another vehicle until a fix surfaces, what am I to do, drive around with the windows down? I don't feel that is acceptable in a $52,000 vehicle, do you? what about the potential long term health issues that are now surfacing? should I keep putting my kids in this car since it is my only means of transportation? would you put your 4 and 8 year olds in it? shame on the NHTSA for not taking this issue seriously and continuing to allow families to breath in such hazardous and life threatening fumes. I hope you all drive one of these vehicles and put your babies in them and they get sick, just like mine, so that maybe then you'll react. Those that read this message should be embarrassed for your failure to do nothing over such a severe "design flaw", your failure to act makes you not just disgusting examples of human beings, but americans in particular.
