The car has had consistent odor penetration into the passenger cabin since I bought it in October 2012. There is a sulfur-like or rotten-egg smell...almost like natural gas. More recently I am also getting a separate odor of burning oil. The smell is most present when the car's windows are all up and the A/C system is on. The oil smell is also noticeable outside the vehicle. I am concerned that this could be related to the well-publicized issue with police versions of the Ford Explorer. I am also concerned that the fumes could be toxic and I am being exposed for long periods of time to potential carcinogens.

Extremely bad exhaust fumes in car. Brought to Ford and was told I had grass in my engine, I said bs. Brought back again and was told its under review. Making me light headed while I drive. Have to drive with my windows down all the time just so my kids don't smell it. Seems the longer I drive the worst it gets.

My 2013 Ford Explorer Sport has an awful, rotten egg smell inside the cabin, every time I press on the gas for quick acceleration. It happens every single time on quick acceleration. Smells gaseous. I'm afraid that carbon monoxide or other gases are leaked into the cabin somehow, when I press on the gas pedal. I'm afraid that even when I'm not doing a quick acceleration, gases are still leaking in, yet harder to detect. Many times I have gotten terrible headaches during long distances of driving. I have gotten nausea feeling as well as light headedness multiple times as well. I'm very worried. The most scary thing is that I have a 4 year old, and a pregnant girlfriend with a due date in December 2017. I will be devastated if anything happens to them. Ford in tallahassee, Florida has told me that there is no recall on anything like I am describing, and that I would be charged to have it looked at. And then another charge for parts/labor. I don't have the funds to pay them an outrageous fee to try and diagnose the problem. When you buy a newer car, you shouldn't have to worry about breathing in toxic gases inside the cabin, that could kill you or someone you love. I don't know what to do. Please help me.

I've noticed this smell every time I turned my car on/off or would get finished driving. It would be in the drivers cabin down at the floor where it came from. I first noticed it there and had mentioned it to Ford when there for service. It smells like a natural gas ( like at home ) leak. I'd smell it if he air or heat was on bringing it into the cabin. The same smell would be present when I stopped driving and would op N the door. Smelled like it was coming from under the drivers side wheel area. It persisted for the last few years. I've told Ford many times but they say there's no recall. Or that my car was out of its manufacturers warranty. At the time in 2014, when I really took notice, my car was still under warranty. I bought my car out of its lease in 6 OR7/2016 and there were reports of exhaust issues with people having a smell on the cabin. Ironic that I've been complaining of this two years prior to it coming out in the news. When asked, I was unsure to buy a car with exhaust issues, they reassured me there were no active recalls. And that the exhaust wasn't a problem. I thought I had roadkill rotting under my car, but after numerous under carriage car washes and theee years later, the car still has that natural gas smell.

Engine exhaust enters vehicle interior when rpms go over 3,000 and continues to come into the cabin throughout most trips. It disapates a bit when the air vents are shut and all air (heating/ac) is turned off completely. The overwhelming smell has created a dangerous driving environment in the vehicle which can only be driven with the windows open.

Exhaust fumes entering the passenger compartment. Vehicle in motion with the air conditioner on. The vehicle was taken to a Ford dealership for repair. The dealer made a repair that was going to fix the problem but it made it worst. I took the vehicle back and they advised that they are waiting for Ford engineers to figure out the problem. Its been over two years now.

Under strain with air conditioning in recycle mode the exhaust fumes fill the cabin of the vehicle. In May 2016 the dealer preformed tsb 14.0130 reprogramming of the HVAC module. Replaced air extractors and rear fender mouldings. Retested it and said it was ok. After doing their repair it did help some but it has not solved the problem.

Exhaust from the engine comes into the passenger area of the vehicle, especially on long trips causing headaches. At first I thought it was an issue of outside air coming in but I have the button pushed for inside air. This has been an ongoing issue since I purchased the vehicle at the end of 2013.

I am experiencing the driver "door ajar" issue with my 2013 Ford Explorer. The vehicle has 36K miles. I was told that the door latch assembly is bad. When the door is closed the vehicle's computer thinks it's open and keeps sending alarms from the panel. I have been researching this issue and it seems that many Ford products are experiencing this issue. I am complaining because I think Ford needs to recall and correct the faulty door latch. This problem is also a safety issue for me. I have grandchildren that often ride with me. Because the vehicle thinks the door is open, I can not activate the locks. So while the car is in motion, it's unlocked. I can not drive my grandchildren in this vehicle for fear that one will open the door while the car is in motion. Very unsafe. I have to come out of pocket to fix this issue. Ford should be ashamed of themselves. They know about this issue with some of their 2011 - 2014 explores, escapes and etc. They don't give a hoot.

When driving my Ford Explorer to get on the highway, I started speeding up and the RPM's went higher than 3.5 for just a little time frame, but then this awful smell (smells like burnt hair) started coming in through the vents. I believe the smell is coming from the exhaust system.

Exhaust fumes entering cabin after acceleration onto freeway or passing. Must open windows to clear cabin of fumes. The problem was reported to tommie vaughn motors, Inc. In houston, tx after purchase in 2013. I was assured there was no way exhaust fumes could enter the cabin of the vehicle. I have spoken with local dealer hear in galveston, tx and was told Ford has not detected problems with Explorer models other than police interceptor. Please add my vehicle to list of civilian models with exhaust fume issues. Date of original occurrence below is approx. As I do not recall the exact date first reported to dealer.
