Under strain with air conditioning in recycle mode the exhaust fumes fill the cabin of the vehicle. In May 2016 the dealer preformed tsb 14.0130 reprogramming of the HVAC module. Replaced air extractors and rear fender mouldings. Retested it and said it was ok. After doing their repair it did help some but it has not solved the problem.

Exhaust from the engine comes into the passenger area of the vehicle, especially on long trips causing headaches. At first I thought it was an issue of outside air coming in but I have the button pushed for inside air. This has been an ongoing issue since I purchased the vehicle at the end of 2013.

I am experiencing the driver "door ajar" issue with my 2013 Ford Explorer. The vehicle has 36K miles. I was told that the door latch assembly is bad. When the door is closed the vehicle's computer thinks it's open and keeps sending alarms from the panel. I have been researching this issue and it seems that many Ford products are experiencing this issue. I am complaining because I think Ford needs to recall and correct the faulty door latch. This problem is also a safety issue for me. I have grandchildren that often ride with me. Because the vehicle thinks the door is open, I can not activate the locks. So while the car is in motion, it's unlocked. I can not drive my grandchildren in this vehicle for fear that one will open the door while the car is in motion. Very unsafe. I have to come out of pocket to fix this issue. Ford should be ashamed of themselves. They know about this issue with some of their 2011 - 2014 explores, escapes and etc. They don't give a hoot.

When driving my Ford Explorer to get on the highway, I started speeding up and the RPM's went higher than 3.5 for just a little time frame, but then this awful smell (smells like burnt hair) started coming in through the vents. I believe the smell is coming from the exhaust system.

Exhaust fumes entering cabin after acceleration onto freeway or passing. Must open windows to clear cabin of fumes. The problem was reported to tommie vaughn motors, Inc. In houston, tx after purchase in 2013. I was assured there was no way exhaust fumes could enter the cabin of the vehicle. I have spoken with local dealer hear in galveston, tx and was told Ford has not detected problems with Explorer models other than police interceptor. Please add my vehicle to list of civilian models with exhaust fume issues. Date of original occurrence below is approx. As I do not recall the exact date first reported to dealer.

When accelerating quickly (I.e. to pass someone) within a few seconds the cabin fills with a sulfur/rotten egg smell that lingers for about a minute. The smell is so noticeable and pungent that my small children complain of the smell. This has been going on since I purchased the car, but have recently become worried when I saw reports of carbon monoxide poisoning and complaints of the same thing I am experiencing.

This is my third attempt at this. My Explorer has the exhaust problem you are seeing in the news. I have tried to work with the dealership, Ford directly and now one wants to acknowledged. I have been chasing this for a few years. My kids and I are getting ill and with 100 degree temp and below zero climate we have to use the air. They also have a problem with their outer window pillars where they will come lose and randomly fly off on the freeway. Below is my conversation with Ford directly who claim this is rare and does not cause safety risk, to see the dealership who needs to take the car apart at my expense to even try and locate the problem.

Toxic exhaust fumes enter the vehicle upon accelerating, fumes cause can be smelled by everyone in the cabin. Fumes smell is very heavy and wont go away unless windows are all open and we stop accelerating. Has been affecting the vehicle for several years. Ford Motor Company or dealership will not help. I contacted Ford Motor Co this morning and they advised that I was out of warranty and there is nothing that can be done.

Ford exhaust I am getting a strong rotten egg smell and a burning smell everytime I drive my car which is a 2013 Ford Explorer limited 4WD it has been getting progressively worse. This happens when I am on the highway and when I am just driving down the street. I am not sure if it gets progressively worse when the car is going faster because it smells all the time. I just had the car toed to dealership because it will not start. In addition I noticed that I have been suffering from headaches, dizzinessand and fatigue while driving which has never happened to me before. Finally I noticed that when there is no power in the car there is no way to open the back tailgate to let people out when you are sitting in the third row of the car so you are trapped back there with the smell.

Carbon monoxide poisining!! (exhaust leak) on 6/1/2017, I noticed an hazardous odor in vehicle while driving. The local news have reported the serious health risks of the Ford Explorer giving off this foul smell. Some police departments have pulled the vehicles and are not using them anymore because it is dangerous. Ford said they will repair the issue at no cost. I want Ford to repair my vehicle too because this is very unsafe for myself and family. My vehicle is unsafe to drive!!

Carbon monoxide poising. My Ford Explorer has been fixed 3 times and the problem still exists. Recently this week it has begun to get worse accelerating less than 40 miles per hour. When I reverse out of my garage or when I am at a light I can still smell the strong odor. I have to drive with windows down all the time now. I have contacted the local Ford dealer who basically told me they can not do anything further and to contact Ford. Ford has been of no help. I am concerned that my family and I have been exposed to this carbon monoxide poisoning for almost 4 years. I am upset that Ford will not take responsibility for a flaw in their design and are putting so many owners and their families at risk.

I believe that carbon minoxide has been leaking into the cabin of my 2013 Explorer limited. I often notice that after driving my vehicle I will feel very lethargic, sleepy, nauseous, or have a bad headache. Sometimes I can even taste gasoline in my mouth. It causes a slight burning sensation in my throat. I've had this vehicle since August 2015. I have noticed that I've felt sick with the symptoms mentioned above more often than not since I started driving this vehicle. Ford Motor Company has acknowledged this issue with the Explorer to a certain extent. However, it seems as though nothing has officially been done to fix the issue to protect consumers. I am extremely disappointed that Ford Motor Company hasn't issued a formal recall for these vehicles. I don't feel safe!!!
