We were driving down the highway and my husband noted an exhaust odor when he accelerated to pass another car. We continued to smell the odor regardless of the air conditioning being on or off.

Within the first month of purchase of my brand new 2015 Explorer we started smelling an odd order coming into the cabin of the vehicle any time you accelerated. It would be extremely bad when on the highway trying to pass another car that you would have to roll the windows down. I made an appointment and took it in and was told that they couldn't replicate the issue. I asked if they took it out on the highway and was told no. I think the dealership I used was biased against women and they dismissed my claim. I finally had to take it to another dealership who found a "fix" and just installed the new parts a month ago. I just took a 329 mile trip and the issue still exists. I have called again for another appointment and am waiting to take it in. I'm concerned that my youngest child who sits I the back seat keeps getting sick to his stomach when riding in the car. I'm afraid he's getting carbon monoxide poisoning. Let me make clear the smell is worse in the back cabin of the car, but the front passengers get it as well. It took over two months for Ford to put the new parts on my car and I'm concerned it's going to take another few months to get something else done to "fix" the issue. Something needs to be done as these cars aren't safe to drive and I can't afford to buy a new one. I will be upside down if I try to trade this in. This only happens when the car is being driven and the accelerator is being pushed.

You can smell the exhaust inside the cabin while driving. It is noticeable when you have to hit the gas to speed up to go around a vehicle or getting onto the interstate. After hearing on the news about the police having the same issue, I wanted to make sure that my complaint has been noted. I will be purchasing a CO2 detector and placing it inside my vehicle where my 3 year old and 7 month old sit. There safety is top priority and hope a recall is coming soon. I noticed the smell when I purchased the vehicle new in March of 2015

Purchased my Explorer used in February 2017, 2 weeks after purchase I noticed an odd smell after picking up speed to get on a busy highway, took the vehicle to the dealership they stated there was a bulletin out about the issue but there was no fix for the issue as if yet but there was. Nothing was done for me to try to resolve this issue. Now today it's all over the news about he exhaust fumes from the vehicle possibly making drivers sick & causing drivers to pass out. This is obviously a known safety issue but yet when I contacted my local dealer they act as if it's no big deal, want to charge me to do what Ford has suggested to do for owners at this point beings there is no recall as of yet. It's terrible to own a vehicle that you are afraid to even drive because Ford is dragging their feet finding a solution for this problem that many owners are experiencing in the Explorer.

We would get extreme headaches and nausea while driving this vehicle. As soon as we would get out for a period of time all symptoms would go away. We took it back to the dealer several times and it was in the shop longer then we actually had the car and the Ford dealership never believed us about the problem.

Takata recall - I frequently come close to blacking out while driving the vehicle. On a number of occasions, I have almost crashed the vehicle while driving on the highway. I work in a congested downtown area and sit in stand still traffic for close to 30 minutes twice a day, 5 days a week. I have been to a specialist trying to figure out why I am having episodes of what I thought were "extreme sleepiness". it never occurred to me that the sudden onset of tiredness could be linked to the air in my vehicle, however, now that I am aware of the situation, my symptoms make perfect sense. I am also having frequent headaches and difficulty concentrating and focusing while working. I am the cfo of a real estate company and I have noticed my ability to Focus has clearly diminished. The concentration level and work ethic that brought me to my position is being compromised and despite healthy changes to my diet and exercise I cannot maintain the same level of productivity I once had. I would like the interior of my vehicle tested for carbon monoxide because I am certain that it exists and I would like to understand the level of poisonous gas that I have been exposed to.
