My wife and I purchased a 2017 Ford Explorer and she was complaining of burning eyes and nesuea I did think nothing of it until I saw a cbs report about the police interceptors so when I went to my local dealership and asked them about it they said not to worry because my Explorer was not part of the recall please NHTSA make them take the Explorer back and exchange it's not fair that we paid for a $34,000 vehicle that is not safe for us and the public thank you,

Our 2017 Ford Explorer Sport has a constant foul smell after acceleration. The smell overwhelms the passenger compartment and is similar to a sulfur or burning hair smell. Additionally, if the vehicle is stopped idle for any period of time, upon initial acceleration, a large cloud of white smoke comes from the tailpipes.

Exhaust fume leaks into passenger cabin - problem since purchasing this vehicle new this spring; anytime when accelerating to merge into highway traffic with recirculating ac on a burning oil or acrid odor leaks into the cabin. In an attempt to fix the problem the local Ford dealer 'resealed" the undercarriage, however the problem persist. On a recent 400 mile road trip with recirculating ac on passenger and driver got very drowsy, windows had to be opened, recirculating ac turned off and stops made to shake off the effects. My previous 2013 Ford Explorer had the same exhaust problem but never like this. When I purchased this new model I took it on faith the "problem" wouldn't affect the 2017S. Ford has had a long time to figure this out and correct whatever manufacturing or design defect is causing this. I will contact the local dealer who has been very accommodating to advise I have filed this complaint. I just want a SUV that doesn't have this issue since 80% of my trips are 40+ miles of highway driving at higher speeds. All I want is a Ford Explorer that doesn't put my health at risk.

Since buying my Explorer I have noticed any time I accelerate I begin to notice an awful smell. If we do not roll windows down, everyone in the vehicle gets nauseous or dizzy. Today while accelerating on the interstate I had to quickly stop to throw up. It has never gotten to that point until today. After bringing it to nearest Ford dealership it was confirmed that it is a carbon monoxide leak and I would have to take it back to where I purchased it to have it repaired.

When driving vehicle I suffer from burning eyes, headache, nasea, feeling ill, vehicle was at dealer for CO2 leak, vehicle was out of service for approximately 60 days, I picked it up, drove home approximately 30 minutes and became ill, same as before it was supposedly repaired. I returned it to dealer the same day so they can try to figure why repair didn't correct the problem, I was told a district technician would need to come inspect the vehicle, this has been a problem since the first day we drove it home from the dealer. Vehicle has less than 3,000 miles on it. This repair was supposed to be the "recall repair" for CO2 leaking into vehicle, this repair did not resolve my issue, so not sure if Ford really has this figured out yet.

When accelerating past 2,500 rpms, exhaust comes into the car. It smells and has since I bought it. The dealership said it would burn off, I'm now at over 5,000 miles and it still does it. I keep telling the dealership. It is dangerous to myself and my daughter. Makes me light headed.

Exhaust leak into cabin of vehicle, noticed especially on acceleration on highway at speeds of 55mph and when driving up and down hills. Had to roll down window to get smell out of vehicle. Causing driver to get headaches, nausea and get very drowsy. Took vacation for 1300 miles to Virginia beach from Illinois and travelled through mountains and this driver could only drive 2 hours before becoming very drowsy. This driver has been driving for 28 years and has never ever had these symptoms before while driving. This driver is not on any medications that would contribute to being drowsy, nor does not have any medical conditions that would cause this driver to become drowsy behind the wheel. This driver believes this car 2017 Ford Explorer is leaking exhaust into the cabin of the vehicle through the air vents even though this driver does not circulate the inside air on the A/C system. This driver always has the A/C system on bringing in outside air into the car and does not click on the button that circulates the air inside the car. This driver now has to have the window rolled down in this vehicle while driving the car anytime this driver gets into the vehicle to drive. This vehicle was first noticed to be causing driver to become drowsy on 7/29/17 & 7/30/17 while on vacation driving to Virginia beach with daughter, friend of family and her son. 8/2/17 & 8/3/17 drove back to Illinois and drowsy again and had to roll window down. 8/30/17 took vehicle to dealership and they tested vehicle and noticed an exhaust leak. Had to order part for vehicle, appt. Made for 9/6/17 for vehicle to get rear bumper removed and exhaust system looked at. 9/13/17 received this vehicle back from dealer in evening. Next day drove vehicle in morning and exhaust smell in vehicle. Car returned to dealer 9/15/17 for dealer to fix same problem for #2 documented visit to dealer.

There is a burning smell/ strong odor of exhaust fumes entering the vehicle when driving. It seems to occur more often or become stronger when accelerating up hills or when accelerating onto the highway, but can occur when driving at any time. My wife, myself, family members and friends who have ridden in or driven the vehicle have smelled it. The smell can be stronger to passengers in the rear seating areas. This has occurred on numerous occasions since my wife has leased the vehicle on 01/20/17 and has been to the dealer twice to be checked, but they cannot find anything wrong. The vehicle will be returning to the dealer this week (09/06/17) again to be checked.
