There is a burning smell/ strong odor of exhaust fumes entering the vehicle when driving. It seems to occur more often or become stronger when accelerating up hills or when accelerating onto the highway, but can occur when driving at any time. My wife, myself, family members and friends who have ridden in or driven the vehicle have smelled it. The smell can be stronger to passengers in the rear seating areas. This has occurred on numerous occasions since my wife has leased the vehicle on 01/20/17 and has been to the dealer twice to be checked, but they cannot find anything wrong. The vehicle will be returning to the dealer this week (09/06/17) again to be checked.

Exhaust smell comes into the cabin when car is accelerating. Seems worst when the ac is in re-circulation mode. You can smell the exhaust fumes right after the engine/transmission has downshifted to accelerate.

We have taken our Explorer into a Ford dealership twice now. When you accelerate on the highway there is a really bad exhaust smell in the cabin from time to time. They claim to fix it every time and then the problem occurs again. I am very worried because I am 22 weeks pregnant now and I had been placed on bed rest due to spotting I was having. I am not sure if the two are linked. I am not on bed rest anymore. The car continues to have the same issue. This has been an ongoing issue. I will choose a date below, but it is ongoing.

C0 detector went off on a 3hr drive on 08-18-17 with ac and air recirculation on. After opening the windows the detector stopped beeping. The detector is a glui cigarette-lighter powered device w/ two usb ports (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G2yj3zu) and has been installed in the center console cigarette lighter (facing the second row seats) since mid May. No other time has this alarm went off. At the time of the alarm the detector was partially covered with some fabric from a bag and the detector was warm to the touch. We were camping in a place with no cell service so we did not get a chance to contact Ford/NHTSA. We drove home w/ the windows open. After coming back home I tried intentionally setting off the co alarm with a can of co. After warming up the detector by letting the car run I sprayed co into the detector but I was unable to get the alarm to go off again. It is unclear to me whether this was a false alarm from the detector or a legitimate issue with C0 emissions in the vehicle. There are not many active co alarms on amazon for cars, the glui one is the most reasonable one I've found. Any advice would be appreciated; I'll be contacting Ford today as well.

When I accelerate with the air conditioning unit on, the smell of exhaust is entering my cabin. I have to roll down the windows to let the smell out. According to the dealership, there is nothing wrong with our vehicle. I am concerned about my safety and that of my children when inhaling this smell.

Driver has had several episodes of nausea, dizziness and overall unwell feeling since purchasing in November 2016. No recall has been issued as of yet, but there is a definite problem with the vehicle and am concerned for my three children under 6.

My 2017 Ford Explorer XLT has exhaust smell coming through the vents throughout the vehicle. This is not a new car smell but rather exhaust odor and only is apparent when the ac system or fan system is in the on position. I purchased this vehicle on June 13, 2017 and was hospitalized on July 1, 2017 for three days. The doctors were unable to provide a diagnosis although I was experiencing headaches, dizziness and trouble with my vision. Every time I drive my Explorer and turn the ac or fans on I notice a exhaust odor. I develop a headache, dizziness feel sick. I called Ford and they told me that there is no recall on my vehicle and to take it to a dealer for a possible carbon monoxide leak or other issue that maybe causing the problem. Ford also stated that the problems were only on the police interceptor vehicles even though all exploreres come off same production line. Note: I have had this vehicle for almost two months. The new car smell is gone and there is no odor with the vehicle's engine is not in the on position. The toxic odor is only noticeable when the vents/ac/fans are running.

While driving my 2017 Explorer I get sick while driving. I get a headache and very nauseous and sometimes I get dizzy. I will drive other vehicles and I don't get sick with them. I have had my Explorer for a year and I have had this problem for the last 7 or 8 months. While driving I get sick and I feel like im going to pass out. I don't think it's very safe to drive like this. Its a danger to myself and also other people on the highway.

The Explorer is experiencing carbon monoxide leaks. The further back you sit in the SUV the more you are exposed to the carbon monoxide. We purchased a detector and after only 10 minutes on the interstate the level was 15ppm. At 10ppm it starts affecting infants and we have a 11month old

I am concerned about my 2017 Ford Explorer and a carbon monoxide leak. I have overall feeling bad since we got our new 2017 Ford Explorer, which is very out of character for me. I am a prior special operation veteran, overall in good health, and only 30Y/O. like many, who have complained about this vehicle I am getting nausea, weakness, and tension headaches from driving this vehicle. I have been very weak and having headaches, as of late. This has had a major impact on my day-to-day life. I couldn't explain why or what was going on with me it seemed as if it came out of nowhere. I am starting to think maybe I have long term exposure to carbon monoxide over the last 3 weeks. I got the Ford explore 3 weeks ago and this sudden sickness has been happening since then. I got so worried with my health"I went to the doctor. I explained to the doctor "I have no clue what's going on with me but I feel absolutely horrible. I feel like I have had a flu for almost a month". I was desperate and I know I sounded crazy but I have been having some serious bouts with weakness, fatigue, and headaches. I went to the doctor on July 31st 2017 and I really have been baffled by the sudden onset of symptoms. This was before I knew about the NHTSA investigation into the 2017 Ford Explorer. I saw the story run today (8-3-17) on good morning America and I started to put two and two together. At the doctor's appointment on (7-31-17) they pulled blood, and are conducting a bunch of test but nothing has come back. I am concerned, I am hoping it's not related to the carbon monoxide leak that others are reporting. My biggest concern is for my pregnant wife and unborn child. As a purple heart vet I have put my heart and soul into our great country and I need this Agency to please find answers to if these SUVS are safe. My families could depend on it thank you for your service.

We heard about the possibility of carbon monoxide issues with the vehicle. Concerned if it could be the cause of our 9 year old daughter's complaints of headaches when in the vehicle.
