Window Motor Regulator Part# 1 4L3Z-1823201-CA is made inferior. It has 3 chinsy plastic tabs that break and when replaced with a like part will only result in breaking again. The part needs to be re-engineered and if "Ford" doesn't issue a recall, it should at least acknowledge the defective part and replace at no charge as people take their vehicles in..
As I tried to raise the drivers side window, I heard a clunk-pop...The motor kept spinning when I pressed the window switch, but no action with the window.
After taking the door apart and finding the that the 3 flimsy little plastic tabs in the window motor/regulator broke, I went to the Ford Dealer up town and found that he most certainly was familiar will the problem. I just wanted to purchase the cable winding pulley that was broken inside but he said they only sell the whole unit at a price of 183.74.
So I left without purchasing it and thought that I would check online to see if I could get it cheaper. I actually thought about it for awhile and thought of a retrofix for the cable winding pulley by inserting 3 screws. I then put the regulator back together but had trouble reattaching the pulley cables. I gave up for the night since it is dark but will try again in the morning.

Like others have said...driving home from work, going to enjoy the nice breeze with the windows down, realize that the nice breeze is still hot in FL in September. I go to roll the window up and POP, something hits my door, or no, my window falls down. First time it has happened to me. Only 36,000 miles. My buddy has replaced his on 3 different windows on his 2004 f150. Thought it was a fluke until I researched it. This is BULL. Thanks for the rant...Guess there's still no recall

I had to Saran Wrap my window on Saturday at 3pm in the afternoon until a dealership opened or the Ford call center. My right side window just dropped down. This will be the 3rd time I've paid a Ford Dealership to fix this problem. There is no recall. So by my problem, I figuring that ford cant product repair parts that last more than 6months. Since having this truck my only main issues have been the windows. The back window, the front and back on the driver sider. And every time I go into a dealer ship they just give you the cost and not even say, this seems to be a problem. So to anyone who reads this. I am on my 5th Ford truck, because I have always loved ford trucks. But Ford doesn't seem to be able to produce a quality product anymore. If I have to open my check book at the dealership in the morning, I am getting on the internet and phone with every office in Washington DC that controls consumer complaints, affairs, and business practices of Ford affiliations with their dealerships. Its time the cosumer stop falling victim to big corporations and their defective products.

hello everyone I guess add me to the list off (pissed off) well My wife was driving down the street on her way to work, when out of nowhere she heard a loud noise and the passenger side window had fell down into the door. She called me to tell me what had happened so I called, Ford (1-800-392-3673) the operator that answered the phone asked me for the VIN # explained the window just feel down into the door and that I wasn't the first F150 owner that this happen, that I have searched online to see if other people were complaining and I also asked if Ford is going to do something about it. He said that as of right now there was no recall for that specific problem in place. He concluded that at this time I will have to pay out of my own pocket to repair my truck. Long story short, my driver's side window also went out couple months earlier - now I am stuck with another approximately $300 bill. Obviously the ford company does not give a flip** all this happened at about 50,000 Ford F150 window problem, defect, claim, Ford F150 window regulator, recall, Ford F150 window class action, problem, warranty, F150 window defect

My daughter was taking her kids to daycare 20 minutes away and the window fell down into door. Needless to say they had to ride on with the window out. She could not get the window back up and had to pick up the kids from daycare with the window down. Thank God it was not raining. Ford should do something concerning all the complaints of the same problem. It is going on 2 weeks now and we have not had the money to fix the window.

I had both Passenger front and rear windows fall just out of the blue. What a pain in the As........ I don't know the name of the part but on both doors it's the part that holds the window. It's a slider the has both ends of the cable connected to it, yes it's plastic! The piece that holds the window is metal, but the piece that labors to close and open the window is plastic, SMART!!!! These are the people making American made vehicles with china parts. I'm driving a mut!! Please call and and chew them out because they are going to set on their ass and take bail out money from us, and at the end of the day we pay for a new door. Hello y'all
Guess, I am not the only one then, interesting...my 2004 F-150's rear passenger window just went out, I just bought this truck two months ago from Carmax, warranty expires 30 days, so oddly, the window regulator broke on exactly the 60th day after purchase! 09-11-09! ain't that interesting??
Now I cannot find a window regulator for rear in Autozone and Napa etc...they just have the front, the Ford dealership (I hate car dealerships) wants to sell me the whole part (it comes with the motor) for $180! They claimed not having the regulator by itself which is all I need... Is there a way to get Ford to recall this $HITY part??
I am trying to gather people everywhere having this problem to file a complaint against Ford, we bailed out these suckers and now they are turning their backs to us!
I am mobilizing the peeps on Facebook and trying to get a this local reporter/investigator to pass this story on TV, again, Gripe, rant, yell, tell the world about your AutoBeef!!!!

09-09-09, heard a loud "Pop" noise when using the electric window button to bring up driver-side window. It is the window regulator. Ford dealer is asking about $400.00 to replace the entire regulator.
We took off the door panel to get to the regulator and saw the window regulator "guide" (that guides the cables through the pulleys) is cracked/broken.
We are going to try to redesign this guide and make it stronger with plates & brackets so it does not happen again. If it doesn't work we will replace it until it happens again.
If it does work, we will do the same to the other windows as they fail.
Plastic guides on our BMW are notorious for this as well. We can't fix that design, though.

Had a little scraping noise when window would go up and down. When window went up not even half way, pressed up arrow and down arrow then door fell down inside of door. Managed to pull window up all the way with needle nose pliers, Duct taped window to stay closed. and put a shim in the bottom of window to keep it stable.

So the driver side window fell down. We discovered that the window regulator was shot. We took it to Ford who wanted about 193 for the part and 92 an hour for labor (and he said it was a 2.5 hour job) to fix it (about $420 for an out-of-the-blue WTF How-the-hell-did-this-happen fluke kind of bullcrap?!). Then we took it to an auto glass shop out of town that quoted me about 160 for the part and 80 for labor. We couldn't get it fixed there since we were leaving the next day, so we went shop shopping when we got back home. We found out that the GM/Pontiac service department had the best value in our area at 172 for the part and 48 an hour for labor (and it would only take Chevy an hour to do what Ford called a 2.5 hour job!?!). So we paid half to have Chevy fix a problem on our Ford.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Ford and would never want to own a Chevy but their service was much better and honest, I bet they went home and laughed. After seeing how often this problem has happened I definitely would have, if I were them!! Now if only I could figure out why the hell my passenger windows don't roll up or down with the driver's panel (or with their own, half the time). And why the passenger front seat is stuck all the way back. And why the passenger side map light burned out. And why it hollers like a diesel when I start it (not complaining, it sounds badass). And...

The third window went out today - same as everyone else, popping noise, drops into door. The other two were last summer. This will make $900 I've spent on this issue. Wonder when window number 4 will drop? Calling Ford and NHTSA to complain, for what that's worth.

so just like all of the others owning a ford f-150 that has this problem, im severely pissed. Im a college student who has worked so hard to buy a pickup like this and now im just dumping money into it, money that i don't have. I have to get the problem fixed because i live in north idaho where the weather isn't too friendly. So my question is to the ford company: Is this how American vehicles are really made? If so, i might as well go buy foreign, which would only cost me a tenth of what this truck has. And then i could afford to be fixing it every other week. By the way this has happend twice, first on the drivers front, then on the driverside rear...

Just an hour ago...driving down the road...pressed the front pass window switch...loud POP! like a rock hitting the window...window falls down...back to the house...removed the door panel (so far pretty easy, about 20 minutes)...regulator cable toward the front is slack.
Apparently this is happening to just about every F150 on the road. I'm not surprised as I had a Crown Vic and a Grand Marquis and they had the same problem...Ford makes crappy regulators with plastic gears/pulleys.
It's really strange that the regulator is not available in the aftermarket. Practically every other part is. Would someone please tell the Chinese so they can start cranking these out.
I'll order the part from the dealership tomorrow (I hear it's $200 to $400 - OUCH!) and, based on the problem reports on just this site, I fully expect the remaining 3 regulators to fail soon.
Oh well. I guess it beats a new car payment.
Update from Sep 9, 2009: OK...bought the part...$165 at Champion Ford in Houston...found a website with detailed R&R instructions...took out the old regulator and installed the new one in under an hour with simple hand tools. Now that I'm an expert (which I really didn't want to be) I figure the next THREE should take about 30 minutes each.

First Window My 2004 Ford F-150 rear passenger window fell inside the door. Cost then $378.44 should be considered a factory defect.
It happened again the driver side regulator / motor stop working. The cheap GM Ford Part failed... FORD HAS TO BE AWARE OF THIS??? I WILL CALL THEM THIS WEEK. Total cost $409.04 Ps. the parts are cheap to buy. However the wire cables are all wound up inside the regulator and the tension can be a hazard if you don't know what your doing.

SECOND WINDOW My 2004 Ford F-150 driver front window stop working. It was once again the regulator. Symptoms when you know it's about to fail: Window starts becoming slow to operate. Then WAM, it stops working all together or... the window itself will fall inside the door. This was the case of my passenger rear window some 7700 miles earlier. Cost then $378.44 I have to more to go. Then the process will start all over. Why? because it was not in warranty and should be considered a factory defect.
Total cost $409.04 Ps. the parts are cheap to buy. However the wire cables are all wound up inside the regulator and the tension can be a hazard if you dont know what your doing.

I think that this B>S. Ford needs to do something about this huge problem or at least make the cost of this repair alooooooooooooooot less!!!!!!!!!!! pissed off Ford customer.
I have three windows on my truck that don't work and I'm not willing to pay to have them fixed. Ford needs to recall these parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Raul J., Tucson, AZ, US
first time happened on driver side window - would not roll up. had approx 7000 miles at the time. Ford fixed under warranty.
Second time happened with just 36450 miles on 08/22/09 on passenger side - window just suddenly dropped into the door. Haven't had $$ or time to fix yet - need to call ford i guess and ask they fix for free - or how does it get on a recall list ? stuck at the moment on how to proceed.

Well I have read multiple complaints on this very subject.. apparently it's not enough whining for Ford to do anything about it... this is the 2nd window issue I have had with this truck,..I love my ford.. but this is crap and it's a freakin expensive piece of cable..
- kmcgovern, Moxee, WA, US
