My driver window was scrubbing when I bought it. Ford repaired it under warranty. Five years later, a month after pay off, a loud pop and the same window falls into the door. Ford repaired it for $400. Repairman said the part cost $190, and it's just a plastic wheel with a steel rod and cable.
Two weeks later, the rear passenger window falls into the door.

This is very upsetting to find out the number of owners who have had the same problem as me with their windows falling down and the cost to get it fixed. So far the first incident clued me in immediatly when I heard that noise again that cost 418.00 three weeks ago happen again last night.Noise followed by ( I'm f*cked out of 418.00 again) window falls more cursing, wait four days for dealer to get me in to fix it.Temptation to cut out cardboard apply duct tape, put on a pair of truck nuts, bumper stickers such as "My dog can lick your dog", NRA sh*t, Obama rules, have all been avoided by using this site to vent. Still might get truck nuts.

This is the 2nd time this has happened with my truck. Last night we were on our way to an event not far from home. It was a venue where you park outside with no parking attendants. We pull in to the parking lot and hear what sounds as if someone loaded a cannon with a big rock and shot it straight at my passenger side door. I knew exactly what it was. Luckily this time the window didn't shatter inside the door. This time it stayed rolled all the way up, that is, until we got parked. Then it slowly rolled down and we had to pack up all of our valuables in to my wife's purse and cross our fingers that nobody would steal anything. The last time I had this replaced it was $328 in Richardson, TX. I'm pretty resourceful so I'm going to scour the internet for the cable and replace it myself. Good luck to you all and someone at Ford needs to help us out with this. That's over $1200 if I replace all of them on my dime. How much could this part possibly cost to make? At least ship us a free one and instructions to remove the door panel or something.

I have just had my fifth widow regulator break today and I am really Pissed!!!!!!!!!!!
Currently I have three broken. I am the only one that rides in the truck daily and it's not like they are used everyday. Ford needs to Recall these for customer satisfaction they have diffently install a defective parts. I have been a loyal ford customer for 34 years and when I go to purchase a new car this year it sure the HELL isn't going to be a "Fix Or Repair Daily"

I am having the same problems as everyone mentioned above. Driving down the road and pop the window went down inside the door and wouldnt come back up. I pulled the door panel off and noticed a wadded up mess of cable. I used a couple pieces of tie wire to temporarily permanently hold the window up in place. I am the original owner of the truck and take very good care of it. I rarely ever roll the windows down and only drive the truck 1-3 times a week less than 20 miles a week total. The truck was like new until this happened and just rolled over the 26,000 mile mark. This problem shouldnt of happened and I will complain to Ford about it and hope for a recall.

Second time this happened. Driving along when I heard a loud =bang= and the right front power window slid down into the door. The service dept at the dealer quoted me over $400 but FMC comp'd me the part so all I had to pay was the labor. Still, a big pain in the rear having to go out of my way to get the repair done and be without my truck for most of the day.

Third time this has happened, three different windows. Driving along, hear a metallic >bang< inside the door followed by the window sliding all the way down into the door. The local dealership fixed it easily by replacing the power window regulator assembly. Ford Motor Co. refuses to aknowledge the problem despit the many hits I got when I Googled it. The first time it happened I paid for it out of my own pocket. The second time Ford comp'd me a large portion. This time Ford is waffling on it. I have to have it fixed so the only issue here is how much I'll have to pay and whether I can expect to see it again on another window.

I just opened the window and when I closed it I heard a loud pop and then the window went down slowly and would not close again. This is a power window. Dealer fixed it very quickly, but it is expensive. They should make stronger window regulators.

Yesterday (8/24/09) we replaced the 3rd window in our 2004 Ford F150. The first two were replaced under warranty but the 3rd one cost us $445.86; that's after a $50 discount that I had to fight for. We had the same problem with all three windows -- the window dropped and wouldn't roll up again. I called the Ford manufacturer this morning to get a refund and interestingly "they've NEVER heard of the problem with the windows dropping"! I read some of the complaints listed on AutoBeef to the agent and she told me that 70 complaints is a small amount for the 70,000 vehicles they built in 2004. She took down my information and is keeping a log of the complaints. Please call the FORD manufacturer and FILE YOUR COMPLAINT with them 1-800-392-3673. When you call the number press the button for "recall" then press the button to speak with an operator and explain the problem with your windows. Save your receipts in case they do decide to recall the vehicles. Have your VIN # ready when you call. You can also go online www.genuineservice.com. Please call 1-800-392-3673 and file your complaint now.

Complaint #2. Driving down the freeway at 70 MPH yesterday I opened the front passenger's side window a couple of inches for air and the next thing I knew it felt like a hurricane was coming through and the window was gone. The regulator cable on this window broke, the window sank into the door and won't budge. I don't know what to do this time since I got ripped off so badly the last time it occurred. High cliff somewhere???
- John D., Vacaville, CA, US
OK, just to add my two cents worth, on 07/17/08 I was driving down the road at about 35 MPH and thought someone shot my driver's side front door, which scared the s*&% out of me. I pulled over and found nothing wrong. I continued on and opened my window which slowly sank into the door not to be seen again. With some internet research and $402.73 later, my broken window regulator cable was replaced by Ford and, voila, it works again. I cannot believe with the number of problems people are having with this Ford hasn't stepped up and taken care of this. Maybe they should have taken some stimulus money and taken care of their customers. See my next complaint for the front passenger's side which happened yesterday, 08/24/09.

My wife's truck. Small piece of plastic broke on the regulator, and the whole motor has to be replaced. I have a Honda with 210,000 miles on it -- never had a problem with the windows. It's almost like they engineered it to break, and the repair cost is ridiculous -- Never, ever will be buying a Ford because of this.

This was the first of three times that I had this issue. Missed the actual event, but when I went to get in my truck to go to work one day I saw that the right rear door window was down and wouldn't go back up. The power window motor made a low whirrr when I pressed the button but no movement out of the window. Didn't know that lots of folks have had this issue so I just chalked it up to bad luck and paid for it. The repair is fairly easy, according to the service manager, they just open up the door and replace the regulator assembly. The parts are expensive but labor is fairly low due to a short repair time. Fortunately I live in California and it happened in the summertime so I didn't have to worry about rain or anything like that, but it was a pain in the ass driving around for a few days until I could get into the dealer with a window that was always open.
- Chris B., Greendale, IN, US
Well driving down the road at 45 mph the air condition was getting cooler so I rolled up the window and pop the window(driver front) fell into the door. Was a little surprised at first then realized that it just happened to me for the second time. 1st passenger back, 2nd driver front. Ford is the only place in my area that can get the part. They want 183.00 for the back and 179.00 for the front just for parts.
- Keith H., Breese, IL, US
I was driving in town at a lofty 25 mph rolled the passenger front window up and low and behold pop window falls down into the door. No need to get it looked at because I already know the diagnosis(window regulator) as this is the third window on my supercrew to experience this pain in the a... 1st was passenger back, 2nd was driver front, and 3rd the passenger front. The 4th one will probably follow here shortly.
- Keith H., Breese, IL, US
Window regulator failed just before the 36-month standard warranty. Notified the dealer about the problem to schedule an appointment for the repair. The window guy who replaced the regulator hinted it was a common occurrence.
