Had recall performed for downshift concerns and on [XXX] my truck tried to downshift while I was driving approximately 40 to 50 mph which was very scary. My question is why didn't the completed recall fix that concern and what can be done about this before it becomes catastrophic if not fatal to have this downshifting concern on my vehicle. Thank you sincerely [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Not sure if it is the powertrain or the intercooler for the turbos but when you press the gas to get on the highway or at high speed on the highway and press the gas the check engine light blinks and the vehichal goes into limp mode. Easy to recreate and doesnt seem like ford has a recall for it or even a fix. Every eco boost truck ever made seems to have this issue and if you get rear ended because of it, that sounds like a safety hazard to me. The only fix I have seen from the f150 forums to youtube or anywhere on google is to drill a 1/16 hole in the intercooler and let sludge and condensation drip all over the place. Does not sound like a great fix to me.Not even sure if the intercooler is the culprit or if it's the power train.Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

This is a longstanding issue and I've provided language from the Edmunds website to describe: " The defect has been traced to an output speed sensor on the vehicle's transmission lead frame. Under certain conditions, the transmission controls could force a temporary downshift into first gear. Depending on the speed of the vehicle at the time of the downshift, the driver could experience an abrupt speed reduction that could cause the rear tires to slide or lock up. This condition could result in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Affected vehicles are equipped with a 6R80 transmission." Around 2020, I brought the vehicle to a local Ford/Lincoln dealer, and the powertrain control module software was updated. The update only keeps the transmission from affecting the shift to 1st gear. If related diagnostic trouble codes had been present they would have replaced the lead frame at no cost to the customer. An additional dangerous condition occurs, for roughly 5 seconds, where the transmission will not transmit engine power to the wheels. The warranty extension was for 10 years or 150,000 miles from the warranty start date. The problem is there should not have been a time component to the warranty extension. If they were willing to extend to 150,000 miles no other limitation should have been allowed. Nearly anytime I need to accelerate to pass on the highway the transmission will try to shift into 1st gear. I'm forced to have to drive in manual shift mode as the 5-second power lag described previously has caused a few very dangerous situations that nearly caused accidents. So for 4 years now the problem has been getting progressively worse to the point that I've had to make unnecessary changes to how I drive the vehicle. It is an automatic and I should not have to use manual mode for it to function or be safe.

Reference Ford program 19N01 This is an ongoing issue with Ford F150's. This program allows for coverage within 10 years or 100,000 miles. My truck has approximately 78,000 miles. There is a defective sensor in the transmission that when not properly working, causes the transmission to drop into 1st gear and stay there, in other words, not shifting. There are multiple warning lamps when this happens and it has happened multiple times. My vehicle has been inspected by a Ford dealer and they confirmed the issue. However, because the truck is over 10 years old, Ford will not cover the repairs which cost in excess of $1,700. Since this is an ongoing issue with over 1/2 million Ford trucks, this repair should be covered most importantly because it is a safety issue. I don't have a repair invoice yet as my truck is in the process of being repaired. Will provide upon receipt. Thank you!

There's been a very dangerous situation with my truck without any warning, lose all info with it's gauges on the instrument panel and the truck losing power with speed and the transmission locking up or not shifting gears and this causes the vehicles rpm to rev up extremely high to a 4 then sometimes a hard shift can be felt at times. This is creating a very dangerous condition on the highway when speeds are at 75 when without any warning it does this and the truck has felt like it was going to flip due to these problems when they happen or other vehicles are also in danger when the truck slows drastically in front of them while behind me. There's been a recall previously I've noticed on this truck regarding a code that I've been able to get on it when it happens and its PO720. There was a recall on this truck in 2019 that calls for a replacement of the molded lead frame which describes everything I just mentioned to you above BUT, this recall excluded covering rental vehicles (due to their inventory of parts) and low and behold I've just found out that my truck had been a rental vehicle in its past and during this period of the recall. I've notified the lienholder and Ford Motor Company of my issues and have gotten no help as to how I feel they are responsible for this fix and I think that either they should be made to repair any vehicle, rental or not, either way its a very bad situation which risks peoples lives. And if by some chance this truck did get the repair that was recalled back then, then I believe those parts are faulty as well and Ford needs to do another recall on this truck before an accident happens and someone gets badly injured or killed by it.
