Multiple severe transmission issues: 1. suddenly dropping from 4th to 1st gear, causing sudden decrease in speed, screeching of tires, and passengers in vehicle to be thrown forward. 2. erratic speedometer. While driving at highway speeds, speedometer will drop and start to jump between approx 15 mph and 65 mph; this is followed by a very large clunking sound. 3. vehicle stays in too high gear. Engine and transmission run in higher gear than should be; noise and vibrations can be heard/felt in vehicle. 4. transmission will not engage and shift into proper gear from a stopped position. Engine revs high, but truck barely moves. This is a major safety issue (1st issue noted). It has been identified by multiple other owners through internet searches. Ford is aware of the issue. Their standard diagnostics do not pick up the issue, but when they contact escalated service engineers from corporate they tell the dealer to try a few other tricks to see if it is what they suspect. There is a known flaw that they will not publish. This repair is supposedly the wiring harness and lead frame that needs replacement. Have had the truck into the dealer 7 times for transmission repairs and finally after them keeping the truck for 3 weeks they have identified the issue. Customers services says there is nothing they can do to help me but they will make note of the concern. There should be a safety recall on this and I'd be happy to provide any more info you need. I have service records showing the truck has been in the shop many times with no success. I do not have final service history from plattsburgh Ford yet, but will by end of the week and can upload or send then as needed. www.carcomplaints.com

When traveling at highway speed, the automatic transmission suddenly downshifted without warning into first gear causing the rear tires to suddenly lock up. Appears to be same issue that affected 2011-2012 F150 trucks that was addressed with recall 16V-248.

Been having this issue intermittently for the past 2 months since bought the truck. Car would lose power, choke and transmission disengage and shifts gears randomly. It seems to be locked in neutral. Parked on the side, put it in P and then D and it will work again. May 2017 - brought the truck for inspection at closest Ford dealer. They couldn't reproduce the issue and thought resetting the computer would solve it. July 2017 - brought back the truck to another Ford dealer. They couldn't reproduce the issue but found out that the transmission oil was low therefore filled it up. July 2017 - still having the issue, leaving the truck at the Ford dealer for one week... they couldn't reproduce the problem... took the truck back August 2017 - drove one month without major chocking. Was driving on the highway at 100km/H and the vehicle went crazy downshifting and locked the rear wheels, cars behind almost hit me... almost lost control but was able to pull at the next exit and call the towing. It could've been worst... truck is now at my local dealer for diagnostic. There's no way I'm taking back the car before they fix it August 15, 2017 - local Ford has been able to reproduce the issue. Transmission was shifting randomly into different gears. The culprit was the lead frame part #al3Z7G276B. Upon investigation there was a recall on that for 2010-2012 Ford.. well well... I was still all covered under warranty. Hopefully, no issue will ever come back!

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. While depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate over 20 mph. In addition, the turbo warning error indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to sound Ford (101 sw grady way, renton, wa 98057) where it was diagnosed that the crankshaft and turbo booster needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.

F-150

  • 80,000 miles
While traveling on interstate at approximately 70 mph, speedometer suddenly went to zero and transmission shifted from 6th gear to 1st gear causing the rear wheels to slide from the sudden deceleration, nearly causing an accident. Vehicle had previously been taken to dealership for service due to a similar issue where the indicated speed would suddenly change while traveling at constant speed and the transmission would downshift 2 or more gears in response. PCM was reprogrammed at that time but the issue would still occur periodically. Dealership is now replacing the transmission molded leadframe at a cost of over $1000. This defect is identical to Ford safety recall 16S19, but the recall only covers year model 2011 & 2012 vehicles. This is a major safety issue that needs to be covered be a recall.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. While driving 8 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning in the middle of an intersection. The contact stated that the failure occurred numerous times. The dealer (truck city of buda, Texas) was made aware of the failure, but could not duplicate the failure. The dealer stated that there were no error codes to help diagnose the issue. In addition, the dealer requested that the contact record video footage of the incident. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and provided the contact with case number: Cas12626484. The failure mileage was 54,000.

Vehicle went into "limp mode" while traveling at high speed creating a very dangerous situation. This occurred 2 more times before I could get an appointment at the dealer. The dealer could note find any codes but decided my electronic throttle body was defective and not covered under my power train warranty. Ford customer service extended warranties for other vehicles with the same part but will not include my vehicle.

I was driving on the freeway between the speeds of 60 and 65mph and my 2013 F150 with a 6R80 transmission suddenly downshifted into what I believe was 1st gear. I came very close to crashing and completely losing control because the rear wheels breifly skidded on the freeway surface and because of the quick reduction of speed. It was violent because I wasnt expecting it. I am going to slowly limp it to a Ford dealer in mesa Arizona tomorrow morning. They should not charge me for this componant flaw. I do not feel safe driving my truck.

  • 66,000 miles
When driving in motion, my vehicle downshifted automatically locking up the brakes. The speedometer stopped working and the airbag began to read inoperable via the display. In another situation (which occurred several times) when starting from a stationary position my vehicle failed to shift out of 1st gear. I took the vehicle to be serviced by Ford, they advised the lead frame on the transmission was bad and they replaced it. Upon further research, I found that 10-12 Ford F-150's from the Kansas City plant had this item recalled.

  • 66,000 miles
Failure of the lead frame in the 6 speed transmission. Ford recalled a number of 2011 and 2012 F150's for this problem. The lead frame failure, which houses the speed sensor, causes the vehicle to attempt to downshift into 1st gear at highway speeds. Mine is a 2013 F150 with the same problem. The first two times occurred at highway speed, ~50mph, and caused a sudden/temporary bog and deceleration. The third time the vehicle downshifted into first gear from approximately 50mph, causing the rear wheels to lock up and create a short skid, before shifting back into a higher gear. The vehicle behind me nearly crashed into me because of the sudden deceleration without warning. This was on a straight, level highway while traveling at a constant speed. The three incidents occurred several weeks apart in similar conditions, and the first two were not severe enough for me to immediately take it for service. I had the part replaced at $727 cost to me. The vehicle has 66,000 miles and was just out of warranty. I asked Ford about covering the cost, since the recalled '11 and '12 models were covered for all repair costs beyond 100,000 miles. I was informed since my vehicle was not part of the recall, even though it had the exact same problem and transmission, Ford would not cover the repair. This is a dangerous condition known to Ford. Many owners may forego repairs due to the cost, particularly when the initial signs of a problem are not severe, until they have a full on lockup of the rear wheels as I experienced. I have the receipt and original lead frame that was replaced if necessary for inspection.

While accelerating, the vehicle has suddenly dropped down to a lower gear, and flashed a wrench symbol on the dashboard. When this occurs, all dashboard indicators zero out and speed drops drastically. This has occured on both a city street and on the highway. The time it occured one the highway, I nearly lost control of the vehicle. After the second time the issue occurred, I took the vehicle to a dealership. They inspected and discovered dtc code P0722 and diagnosed that it was due to a faulty lead connector. My own research revealed a recall for the 2011 and 2012 model year F150S to fix the exact same problem, a faulty speed sensor. Now I'm paying $650 for something that's been a problem with other model years.

  • 72,000 miles
Driving on interstate at roughly 70 mph with cruise control engaged, truck lost power and started to coast. Speedometer swept to 0 indicated speed, tachometer indicated engine at idle speed, around 1000 RPM, while coasting from 70 mph slowing to roughly 40 mph. Vehicle regained powered drive briefly then again lost power and coasted. After resuming coasting, the back tires then breifly locked up, vehicle shuddered, then resumed coasting. Extremely dangerous as vehicle being driven in traffic on interstate and became nearly uncontrollable. Explanation from dealer service department was that the wiring harness from transmission to ECU passes through firewall through a grommet that is known to fail. The wiring chafes and causes a short and the transmission to malfunction. Apparently a tsb is issued for repair at customer's expense per dealer but I have not been able to find it. This appears to be a proverbial ticking timebomb for F150 owners and should absolutely be subject to a recall.
