Brake pedal goes extremely soft after the anti-lock brake system engages. It can still brake, but I have to press the pedal all the way down, touching the floor and stopping distance must be greatly increased. Stays this way for 24 hours or more. This has happened to me twice in the last 4 months on a bumpy road, going around a curve, when a vehicle pulled out in front of me and I needed to break immediately. In both instances I was only going about 10-15 mph or less. After the first time this happened, the break system was replaced and fluid flushed & refilled. This did not fix the problem.

Late spring 2016 I was driving on a 35mph paved residential street. I hit a squirrel going 20mph with my foot on the brake. The next time I put my foot on the brake pedal it went to the floor resulting in an extended slowing and stopping distance. I had the car towed to tires plus in lima, Ohio. I was told there was no issue and my brake pedal had begun working properly again. Early fall 2016 I was driving on a state highway and turned right onto a intersecting road. As I turned (while my foot was on the brake pedal) I hit a pot hole and the brake pedal again went to the floor and I experienced extended braking. After several attempts of stopping hard the brake pedal returned to working properly. December 4, 2016, I was driving on a paved rural road and approaching a stop sign. I was braking and almost completely stopped when the front passenger tire slid on a small patch of ice. The ABS system was engaged and the brakes again went to the floor and experienced extended braking. I was unable to return the brake pedal to it's normal position and functioning. This resulted in driving my car without 90% of the braking power. After researching I discovered the hydraulic control unit on the car was bad and needed replaced. I called the dealer where I had bought the car and was told they could not obtain the needed hcu to repair the brakes and another customer was in the same position I was. I was able to locate and purchase, on ebay, an original hcu for my car. I was able to have the dealer replace the hcu, thus repairing the problem. Total cost of parts, labor, repairs is $850. Dealer who completed repair raabe Ford delphos, oh. I am still skeptical and do not feel 100% safe with the braking system. It is obvious the hcu is malfunctioning however there is no way of knowing when the hcu will malfunction. I have included the part and repair bills.

Several times over the past year, I have had an issue with losing brake pressure after my ABS brakes were activated. The first time it happened was on a country road. I hit the brakes pretty hard to avoid hitting a deer. After the ABS activated, the brake pedal went to the floor before brakes would work. I called a friend of mine that is a Ford certified technician. He had me pump the brakes several times and the pedal came back up. Another time I was approaching a red light doing about 10 mph when one tire hit a dip in the road and the other tire did not. The ABS activated and I had the same problem with the brake pedal. After a few days, the brake pedal freed up and was back to normal. Another time, I was pulling off the side of the road and as the first tie went offroad, the ABS activated. Again the brake pedal went to the floor and was soft. Pumping the brakes no longer worked and braking distance was longer. I took the car to a mechanic several times. Had brakes, rotors and pistons replaced but it still continues to happen everytime the ABS brakes activate. It happened a few more times during winter driving conditions. The pedal frees up on its own after a few days but I have to drive much slower and start braking earlier. I googled the problem to see if there were other people having the same issue and found it that there have bee. Several complaints. I found some information claiming that a pin in the hydraulic control unit is to blame but im not sure. As stated, I had the car to a mechanic several times and they cant seem to pinpoint a problem.

When braking on uneven surfaces the brake goes to the floor and doesn't stop the car properly. I need to put the car into park and pump the brake pedal to get it working again. I tried to stop when approaching a main road from a side road. The main road was being resurfaced and was about 1" or 2" lower than the side road. As the front tires were dropping down the transition from the normal road to the lower road I applied the brake, the brake pedal hit the floor of the car and did not brake in a normal amount if time or space. It felt like the brake failed. I had to hit the brake numerous times to get the car to stop. The wheels were not turned when the brake failure happened. The brake continued to not work properly until I pumped it up again. The brake failure happened numerous other times when trying to brake when going over potholes and other uneven surfaces. The wheels are always straight when the brake failures occur. The brakes seem to fail each time the front wheels are going down a break in the road. The brakes continue to not work correctly on all surfaces until I pump them up again. My mechanic does not know the cause of this problem. The problem has always happened on clear, dry roads.

Whenever I brake over a slippery or bumpy surface my brakes don't work properly. My car skids for a bit and the brakes feel spongy. The slow reacting brakes continue to act that way from a few minutes to a few days after the initial brake. This has happened several (any driving circumstance, although icy seems to be a contributing factor, and any road) times and it literally feels as though I have no control over my car. Three crashes were blamed on the braking issue, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tuesday. The brake pedal can go "soft" when driving on slippery or uneven surfaces. NHTSA received 141 complaints, with some reporting that their car stopped past red lights, leaving them in the middle of flowing traffic. The investigation covers Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan cars with model years 2007 to 2009. NHTSA estimated that there are about 475,000 of those vehicles. The maker of both car models, dearborn, Michigan-based Ford Motor Co., said it will cooperate with the investigation. I have experienced my brakes giving out while braking on slick surfaces such as road repair covers, as well as on rainy roads. I have slid through intersections when the light was red because the brakes wouldn't engage. After each of these occurrences, the brakes are spongy, having to push them to the floor to even stop.this is a very dangerous situation to myself and other drivers. This has happened at least five times over the last three months. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help your investigation efforts. It's my hope that a recall will be issued for this problem. This problem has occurred always while the vehicle was in motion, and has happened on a city street, highway off ramp, and intersections.

This has occurred several times over the past year with my 2009 Ford Fusion. When going over railroad tracks, hitting black ice and when pressing the brake pedal while driving over a small pothole. It has been in for service 3 times, and they can't find anything wrong with it. The most recent incident happen a few weeks before christmas. The mechanic told me not to drive it until he could look at it which happen to be after christmas. On this occurrence, I hit a small patch of black ice and a small pothole while coming to a stop light, the ABS engaged and the brakes dropped to the floor and remained soft. This sounds like a real safety issue, please issue a recall! the mechanic again could not find a problem with anything and the brake pedal had returned to normal by the time he had it at the shop.

While in the act of stopping for a red light on a bumpy & potholed road the brake system seemed to loose pressure. The brake pedal almost went all the way to the floor. This 70%-80% loss of braking power persisted until having a mechanic fix the ABS system in September 2016. Then sometime in October of the same year the exact same issue appeared in the exact same manner. Had the mechanic once again fix it. When the "mushy" pedal problem is persisting I have to take into account that now my car has about 80% less stopping power. Luckily no accident has occurred however the probability for one certainly increased.

Have lost breaking when making turn and applying brakes on rough roads (in winter) the brake pedal went to the floor in order to stop and after quite some time the brakes would return to "normal" and then tis problem would reoccur, to date this has happened several times over a two and a half period, when taken into mechanic he could find no problem, he has suggested to replace the master cylinder, how ever I have never had a master cylinder fail and then fix itself and then fail over again and again, I believe it is the ABS control valve and I feel that this is not a normal wear issue, and that Ford should do a total recall to repair this "safety" issue.
