Fusion

  • 80,000 miles
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 20 mph, the contact rear ended the preceding vehicle. The contact stated that she had to apply more pressure to the brake pedal than usual to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle seemed to stop at a lower speed than the amount of force that was needed to apply the brakes. The air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained injuries to the hip, ankle, knee, and wrist. Medical attention was not received. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not towed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact of a future recall regarding the brakes. The manufacturer referred the contact to NHTSA to file a complaint. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

When applying the brakes, if I encounter a situation that would engage ABS, instead of ABS turning on, the brake suddenly travels to the floor. This has happened 3 times in the past year. Private mechanic could not diagnose. Ford dealer service bleed the lines and could not guarantee problem was eliminated. No codes are produced.

I have had numerous brake problems with this car..first @ 23,000 miles back brakes froze up on me, had to have both rotors & pads replaced, since then had pads replaced again on the back. I also had to replace the front pads twice, just this month with 46,000 miles on my car, had to replace both front rotors & pads because they were making a squealing noise..I feel the brakes are a safety issue, never know when they are going to stop working especially if I'm driving 🚗

I've received a recall for the ABS valve not working correctly and causing the brakes to not work properly. Could this be what's caused my problems before I've had several times since I've owned my 2010 Fusion go to apply the brakes and they just didn't work properly. About a month ago I ran into the back of a Ford F150. I was in a turning lane with heavy traffic and when we didn't make it through the light I applied the brakes and I wasn't stopping, luckily I was able to pull the emergency brake while pushing all I could with a size 9 steel toe work boot to keep from damaging anyone's vehicle. It wasn't any damage to the back of the truck but it was enough to break a chrome piece off my grill. I've always just assumed it was lack of maintenance or due to wet roads plus the fact the car has over 225,000 miles but this last incident the roads was dry and being in a line of traffic trying to turn I was only doing about 10 mph.

Reversing my car out of the driveway and the car would not brake. Lost all brakes in the car. Prior to this issue I always though the vehicle had very low brakes. I'd have to press the break very low to the floor to stop. When I lost the brakes I'm the car I initially thought the cause was due to bad calipers and rotors. After replacing all calipers under warranty and bleeding that was not the issue. Towed the car to torrington Ford and it was diagnosed as needing a master cylinder first which may not fix the problem and then a possible hcu replacement of the master cylinder doesn't correct he brake issue.

Fusion

  • 140,000 miles
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle would not immediately stop and the pedal traveled to the floorboard and felt spongy. The vehicle was examined by an independent mechanic who replaced the brake pads and master cylinder, but the failure continued. The mechanic determined that the ABS was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not contacted. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 140,000.

When my Fusion hits a bump my brakes pedal goes almost to the floor. When I brake hard and turn wheels my brake pedal goes almost to the floor. When I brake on wet pavement my brake pedal almost goes to the floor. When my brake pedal almost goes all the way to the floor and I have to pump my to get the car to stop. The brakes get better in a few days after ABS valves closes. This has been going on for over two years. This happen today when I was stopping behind a car to make a turn and my pedal went to the floor and I was just able to stop in time before I hit the car. I know the ABS module needs to be replace at a cost of $1200 to me. I also know this a common problem in the Ford Fusion that Ford will not fix!

  • 100,000 miles
Intermittently my brakes will go out, most often this happens after the vehicle has been off and I turn it off and try to reverse though it also happens when in drive. It has happens on access roads, the highway, my driveway and most often in parking lots. My car will roll and be completely unresponsive to the fact that I have my foot on the brake. The brake pedal goes soft and I can press it all the way to the floor. My brake light, ABS light, etc on the dashboard all light up and my car keeps rolling. I try turning my vehicle on and off as sometimes even the emergency brake or putting the car in park will not get the vehicle to stop. I have almost hit other cars and pedestrians because of this issue and it is highly dangerous and come to find out a known glitch for some 2010 Ford Fusion.

(my daily path is on city streets marked 45 mph. Incidents generally occur at intersections with stop lights/signs; I am continuing straight and not turning) brakes do not function when brake pedal is pressed while driving during wet conditions, conditions with a dusting of snow or if vehicle hits a bump while brake pedal is pressed. Instead, the brake pedal falls all the way to the floor and the vehicle continues forward. Driver must pump brake pedal numerous times to get pedal to return to normal position and for brakes to activate. This has not happened under normal conditions. The ABS system does not seem to activate, as it does not function with the normal chattering movement that an ABS system has. Driver can hear a slight hum and feel normal pedal resistance when the brake pedal is initially pressed, then the brake pedal falls to the floor and the vehicle continues forward. This does not always occur when the pavement is wet, as it is very unpredictable. The brake pads on this vehicle are somewhere around a year old. Tires are about 8 months old and have full tread. The vehicle has been driven 159,000 miles with the first incidence of brake failure happening somewhere around 40,000 miles. I was narrowly missed by a semi truck driver on Friday morning as I slid through a red light, on a wet roadway, with my foot on the pedal which had fallen to the floor. This is not just a problem with my vehicle, as there are hundreds of people reporting the same issue on forums online. Please make Ford recall these vehicles before someone dies. I will put a date of occurrence below but it only signifies the latest date this has happened. This began in November 2012 and seems to be increasing in frequency. I have experienced brake failure three times in the last 45 days.

Takata inflators: My vehicle was not driven for 6 months as part of the recall. I was given a rental while waiting for parts, but since having the recall parts installed my vehicle has started having brake problems. When driving the brake pedal will go all the way down to the floor. It feels like the brakes will not hold pressure. I had the brake pads and rotors changed after it sat for 6 months.

  • 80,000 miles
I had a recurring issue where the power brakes failed and we were forced to depress the brakes almost to the floor to get them to work. I reported this issue a couple years ago and was contacted by a NHTSA employee. At that time the dealer had said it was permanently resolved, which I told the NHTSA employee. The employee told me to contact him if it happened again. It happened again this evening. I replied to the employee's email, however the employee no longer seems to work there. It occurred while I was backing slowly out of my driveway, and shifting out of reverse to drive. The brake assist service light came on.

The first time this happened, I hit a pothole. The brakes felt loose/spongy, and I had to press down all the way for the brakes to work. I pumped them a few times, and it seemed to fix the problem. It was raining a bit the other day. I turned, and brakes a little and felt the ABS kick in. After that, I was coming to a stop light. I began to brake, but had to press down about halfway to even begin braking, and all the way to brake completely. This problem has continued since then, even without rain

1st incident while trying to make a turn I applied my brakes and the pedal went to the floor I pumped the pedal and was able to slow my vehicle to make the turn. It happened again while trying to come to a stop on a slight incline to park again I applied brakes and it went to the floor I had to pump the brakes to come to a stop. Second incident 2 weeks after the 1st while approaching an intersection I applied brakes and the vehicle came to a stop but instantly lost pressure and the pedal went to the floor. My vehicle started rolling into the intersection and I had to pump the brakes to be able to avoid hitting another vehicle. This seems to be happening sporadically. Ive researched the problem and it seems multiple people have had the same serious safety issues with the brakes & has cost over $1,000 to possibly correct the situation.

Unexpected increase of braking distance. When doing a K turn, I should be able to stop but the car continue to rolls when brake is pressed to the floor. This caused me to roll into a curb. This happens regularly but inconsistently. The car was going less then 5 miles an hour and took more then 5 feet to come to a complete stop with the pedal pressed all the way.
