I have a 2010 Ford Fusion SE where the entire braking system literally failed while running my errands. The brake pedal went all the way to floor whereby I had to use the emergency brake to stop. Fortunately I did not hit anyone or anything. The local Ford dealership eventually diagnosed the "hydraulic control unit" had completely failed. Reading online, it is my understanding that this has become a national problem regarding these particular Ford vehicles and quite a few people unfortunately have had accidents since they could not stop properly in time. It appears this has / could become a very dangerous situation for others on the road. Cars should be able to stop properly and a car whose entire braking system fails without notice could seriously hurt / perhaps kill someone. We would greatly appreciate it if a national recall was ordered by the NHTSA. Thank you for your time and assistance.

Brake pedal was pressed all the way to the floor board of the car and the car did not react well to stopping as my daughter approached a stop light. Scary nontheless. Normal braking worked after that one incident. Anyway we brouht to private mechanic to check things out and he did not find anything wrong with brake line or pads. Still scary to think this might happen again.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving unknown speeds, the brake pedal was applied, but felt spongy and failed to stop the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the master cylinder needed to be replaced and the brakes needed to be bled. The repairs were completed, but the failure recurred. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 62,000.

The brake pedal suddenly went all the way to the floor. Brought the car to the local for dealer and they diagnosed the problem as brake pads and rotors, obviously pads ad rotors have nothing to do with the brake pedal going to the floor while braking. I did research and testing on the car and found the cause of the issue. The cause is a failed ABS pump. Apparently this is a well known failure in Ford Fusion and can and does cause complete loss of braking leading to accidents. The ABS system that Ford designed and installed in the Fusion has a major safety defect, in that if the ABS pump has an internal leak then when the brake pedal is depressed the brake fluid is allowed to flow passed the ABS pump, allowing the brake pedal to go to the floor. When the brake pedal goes to the floor baking is limited or non existent. Please do an internet search and you will see that this is a common occurrence that Ford has not addressed and has not trained it technicians to identify. My children drive this car and I found out about this issue by driving the car to the dealership for the airbag recall. Please do something about this issue

While driving normally on any type of road and coming to a stop when brakes are applied, pedal will softly go to the floor all the way and car will not stop unless pumped a few times. This started happening after a month when I bought this car from lang autos in lynnwood, Washington. First time it happened when I had to stop abruptly and there was gravel on the road which engaged ABS. As soon as ABS was engaged brake pedal went all the way to the floor and my car hardly stopped causing me to run a red light. I was almost about to run into a pedestrian. This is a permanent issue and I have had rotors brake pads calipers checked. I have also had the brakes bled and tested for any leaks. It came out negative. Master cylinder works fine and there is no leaks in brake line. No leaks in any joints that connects to master cylinder and ABS module. I have had my car tested and seems like the issue comes from ABS module/controller that might need a replacement. It is a very costly part plus labor costs are huge. On top of that I have already spent hundreds of dollars in diagnosing cause and replacing parts that are not related to actual cost.

Takata recall brakes completely went out. No pressure in the pedal. If it wasn't for the emergency brake I would of hit another vehicle with my children in the car. I have done research and it has showed multiple complaints about this on going issues with the breaks in the Fusion and Milan's.

Antilock braking system (ABS) hydraulic control unit is failing. I have read multiple reports of others and this should be recalled. Causes breaks to get spongy after a small slide on the road. I was on my road, slid on ice about 3 feet and after that the breaks went spongy.

I was driving to work and I went to stop at a red light and the brakes failed. My car has been at the dealership for a few days and they have replaced several parts but they have been unable to regain any brakes. I haven't had my vehicle for 3 weeks because no one can figure out the issue.

I was drive through line with my foot on the brake and my brake pedal all of the sudden when all the way to the floor. I tried to 'pump it' and it stayed floppy. I parked my car, set my E-brake and turned it off. When I restarted it, it worked again. One week later while driving approximately 35 mph I went to stop as I was approaching traffic and my brake completely failed, going to the floor once again. I tried pumping it and it was complete to response less. I pulled my E-brake and veered into a nearby parking lot narrowly avoiding an accident. A message across the dash read 'break system failure'. we took it in the next day, the message was gone, all visual computer checks were fine. The mechanic kept it several days and put over 30 miles on it without an issue. I'm scared to drive it now as I have read that there are many reports of this problem with this car.

ABS module seems to cause random loss of braking -- vehicle starts braking normally, then sudden loss of hydraulic and pedal goes almost to floor before some braking resumes. It's a relatively infrequent problem ( four times in 6 months) with no apparent trigger, and has happened when pulling straight into a parking spot, stoping for a stoplight, and turning off of a freeway onto an off-ramp. Weather conditions during occurerences were dry and sunny twice, raining once, and overcast and about 50 deg F on the most recent (Oct. 10, 2018) occasion. An unrelated matter has to do with their wheel lug nuts. They have a two-part constriuction, and the outer layer swells so that it cannot be serviced using the oem tire changing hardware supplied with spare tire.

I am experiencing intermittent failure of the ABS control module, essentially causing a loss of braking capability when driving. This occurs without warning. Brakes return to normal operation after shutting the vehicle off, and restarting. The ABS 'resets' only to occur at a later date and time. The ABS fails while driving at normal operating speeds. Both occurrences that I have experienced to date have occurred in residential zones traveling at 25 miles per hour. The dealer has diagnosed it as an ABS failure with a repair cost of 1645 dollars. My vehicle has less than 45,000 miles and has no history of accidents or major repair.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving at various speeds, the steering wheel seized several times. In addition, the check engine, ABS, traction control, and eps warning indicators randomly flashed. The contact, a mechanic, checked for a diagnostic trouble code, which indicated that there was a failure with the steering wheel angle sensor either opening or shorting out. The code also indicated that there was a connection failure and the ABS module may be faulty. Hassett Ford-Lincoln (3530 sunrise hwy, wantagh, NY 11793, (516) 785-7800) and Ford Lincoln of queens boulevard (139-48 queens blvd, jamaica, NY 11435, (718) 657-8888) indicated that the vehicle was excluded from any eps and brake recalls. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000.

Vehicle showed intermittent "service advancetrak" light and would intermittently go into full ABS mode at low speed on smooth, dry pavement. The ABS part of the problem caused us to miss several turns for lack of effective braking and, at least once, to end up four feet past a stop sign and into the crossing lane of traffic. The Ford dealer replaced the L/R ABS sensor twice but the problem recurred 9 months and then 3 months later. The third time, we took the vehicle to an independent shop where I was able to personally observe the final and correct diagnosis and repair of the problem. There was a buildup of rust and scale on the sensor mounting point which had gradually forced the plastic sensor further and further from notched sender wheel until, eventually, the sensor became intermittent. The computer apparently interpreted this as a locked wheel and then went into full ABS mode. That's what the real mechanic said, anyway, and his repair has worked fine for about four months now (the R/H sensor also went intermittent for the same reason about two months ago and was also successfully repaired by cleaning up the mount and reinstalling the original 2010 sensor). The Ford dealer's mechanic apparently never cleaned up the surface of the mount on either of his repairs. Just torquing down the new sensor was evidently enough to make it work for a while. This would not be worth bothering you over but for the random ABS part which could have caused us to be in a pretty serious accident on at least one occasion (the stop sign!). I did not observe any obvious pattern or relationship between the light coming on and/or the ABS malfunction. Rust is a common problem here in the northeast. The mechanic who solved the problem said he has run into similar issues with other cars. It might be worth at least a service bulletin.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving 35 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed, which caused difficulty stopping the vehicle. In addition, the service wrench and brake system warning indicators illuminated. In order to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal had to be depressed with force. The vehicle was taken to Liberty Ford parma heights (6600 pearl rd, parma heights, oh 44130, (440) 888-2600) where the contact was informed that the rear driver side wheel sensor failed and the brake booster, brakes, and pads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 137,000.
