Fusion 4-cyl

  • 86,256 miles
I was driving to work at 4:30am in the morning at 65 mph on cruise control when the car started to lose rpms then I noticed a yellowish wrench light come on. I pulled off the highway while pushing the accelerator all the way to the floor and it was just making a spitter and sputtering noise and speed would only move at 2mph. I called my husband and told him I was broke down and that the car was running rough but was afraid to turn it off. He came to where I was at and checked the oil, the oil was fine. He told me to start the car. When I started the car everything was fine with no problems. He followed me 20 miles to work with no issues. After work I got back on the highway and drove about a mile when the same thing happened. I pulled over to the berm and shut the car off and back on and drove about 2 miles and again the wrench light came on and this time the check engine light and the wrench light came on. I took it to a auto part store where they scanned and found the code P2111. I searched online where I read there were a lot of the same problems. I called Ford and they refused to help with parts due to my warranty was expired.

  • 16,790 miles
I purchased my 2010 Ford Fusion SE (4 cylinder - six speed) in February 2013. The vehicle had 12,100 miles at purchase. The vehicle currently has 16,900 miles. I was traveling on the highway at approximately 65 mph when the "wrench" warning light came on and the vehicle began to lose power. The vehicle literally had no power and the vehicle's speed decreased rapidly, with no response to increase power via gas petal or downshifting to a lower gear. I was lucky that I was in the left lane, which had a shoulder. I was able to pull off the highway and shut the vehicle off. I waited about 2 minutes and started the vehicle, which hesitated at first, but then started. I drove the car to work and the vehicle operated with no issues. I brought the vehicle to a Ford dealership that evening for diagnostics. The next day, the dealership advised that the throttle body needed to be replaced. I am glad that I had purchased an extended warranty ($100 deductible) because the out of pocket cost would have been over $500, for a vehicle with less than 20,000 miles. This complaint needs to be forward to Ford Motor Company in regards to the faultiness of the throttle body part. I was lucky, but this situation could have caused an accident on the highway.

Car went limp. I could not power the vehicle via the accelerator. I coasted to a stop, restarted the engine and everything was fine. After speaking to the dealer, it was determined I needed a new throttle body. The throttle body was replaced and was actually a different part number than the original factory part, as Ford knew it was defective and had replaced it from its inventory. They did not issue a recall and I was forced to pay $540 for an issue that has affected thousands of Ford owners.

Twice now I was driving when my car began to shake/jump. The wrench light came on and I lost power to the car, couldn't use the gas peddle and steering was awful. I had to completely stop in the middle of the road, put the car in park, turn it off and then back on. I was able to take it home and drive again but it keeps happening. This is not safe for me or other drivers.

Fusion 4-cyl

  • 12,303 miles
Ford Fusion 2010 has defective engine fuel system/computer identifying the throttle body as the non-functional part causing a safety hazard to self and others. At 60 mph freeway speed the car goes into an instant "low RPM mode", causing complete loss of foot pedal control and RPM immediately reduced to 800. At this point the car is an unguided missile looking to strike something. The power steering is non existent. My car did this on 8-19-2013 with only 12303 miles on it. This has to be an electrical malfunction of the throttle body sensing circuitry being defective. It is only a little more time until this gets someone killed. After stopping with a dead engine, starting again results in very rough idling and no more than 800 RPM, which is incapable of moving the car. Shutoff the ignition, check and have good oil and transmission and cooling levels. Started the car again and it was back to normal, until one block later at a stop light......same thing again. If Ford does not do a recall on this, they will have to spend money on the relatives of the dead people's lawsuits!

  • 84,000 miles
Ever since 80,000 miles on my car has hit I've been having throttle body issues. At first it was only once in a while when shifting between 2nd and 3rd my RPM needle would bouce and feel the gears having troubles changing. At that point when the car was unable to shift the mechanic light would turn on and disengage my car not allowing me to use the gas. After pulling over the car would still rev and shake to move forward. Upon putting the car in park and turning off all was needed was to re-start the car and would be good. Only until recently the problem only increased. I had a 30 minute commute that took 1 hour and since the car would disengage I had to swerve and vear traffic just to pull over into a safe location. My car during my last trip stalled a total of 19 times in 1 trip, please demand a recall as I can see per the internet I'm not the only one.

Driving at 45 mph, car loses power and/or acceleration. Wrench light illuminates and pulled car to side of road and vehicle shakes terribly. Shut car off and waited a couple of minutes and restarted car. Wrench light was not on and car ran fine. This problem has occurred on three more occasion within a week. Dealer could not find any codes but stated it would be a problem with the throttle body, even driving the car by a mechanic with a diagnostic tester, they could not duplicate the problem. This is a serious safety issue that Ford evidently does not want to fix under warranty because their is no code yet. Their are a lot of complaints on this issue on the internet. Ford needs to recall this part.

2 days in a row, driving 40-50 mph and my car completely loses acceleration. The wrench light goes on. I have to roll to a stop on the side of the road while the car shakes like it is stalling out. I turn the car off and wait a minute or two then turn the car on and everything is back to normal, no wrench light, no problems... until it happens again. This is very dangerous as I have a 10 month old daughter to drive around and wouldn't want to put ourselves in a dangerous situation on a busy road or highway. After researching online this problem seems to be a recurring issue with many Fusion owners around the country. Please help.

While leaving a stop sign and pulling onto a main road, vehicle jerked and lost all forward motion. No response from the accelerator and engine ran rough below 1000rpms. Wrench light on dash lite up and car won't move hardly at all. Was barely able to get out of the traffic area of the street. Put the car in park, turned off the engine and restarted the car. Ran fine for 1/2 a block and went into limp mode again. Was able to make it onto a side street this time. Repeated the noted process above and was able to drive the car home. Parked the car in my garage and was afraid to drive it afterward. Contacted my mechanic and dropped off the car the next day. He stated it could be the throttle body or related problem based on my description. No codes present on the computer after the wrench light went off on restart.

Was driving on the highway at about 65 mph and the car lost all response to the accelerator, pressing on the gas did not accelerate the car. Pulled over to the side and car ran a rough. Turned the car off, waited about a minute and restarted. Car restarted fine and drove fine after that for the rest of the trip. My wife drove the car the next day and had the same thing happen while she was on the highway. She saw the check engine light come on (I don't recall it coming on, but may have just missed it).

Driving on the highway going approximately 70 mph when my car acceleration seize to accelerated. The wrench light and check engine light came on. I coasted to the shoulder of the highway were I put my hazards on. I shut the car off waited 5 minutes then started back up. I turned around drove home. This happen two times before on the same day. I read a forum of other Fusion owners who this happen to. They all said it was the full throttle body. I replaced the part and not had a problem since.

Fusion 6-cyl

  • 85,000 miles
Vehicle suddenly stalled while at 25-30 mph, making it difficult to safely move to the side of the road. This occurred on a city street, but had it occurred on a multi-lane freeway at highway speeds, this could have caused a serious accident. Vehicle eventually came to a speed of 2-3 mph. After restarting the vehicle, it was able to reach 10 mph while driving for service. Later that same day, the technician was unable to re-create the scenario. The next day, the vehicle started to encounter rough acceleration from idle, was brought back to the same mechanic, who encountered the rough acceleration, and diagnosed an electronic throttle body failure. Part was replaced, but mechanic noted it was on "critical nationwide back-order" because of wide-spread failures of this same part on Fusion and other Ford models. Situation appears to be resolved.

I had just started and was exiting a retail establishment. I was driving down a slight incline approaching a stop light when the car started shaking and dramatically lost speed. The wrench light came on which according to the manual indicates a possible powertrain/transmission issue. I turned the car off and then restarted (in the middle of the road) and drove to a safe location. I was lucky that at the time I was driving at a slow speed and approaching a stop light. If a car had been behind me someone would have been injured.

I was driving and the car power shut off and then the wrench light came on and then I had to restart the car, it took a while but it came on and ran good for a few months and it happened 4 times after that. Every time the dealer said they could not find an issue. This last time it happened the engine light stayed on and I had to get the car towed and was told it was my throttle body issue that is a known problem but no recall.

Driving 40-60mph, car suddenly loses throttle control, wrench light comes on. After it happened I took it for service and was told there were no error codes. It has happened 6 more times, and I was almost in an accident on the highway today. Car continues to idle after losing speed, but runs rough. Turning the car off, and back on- and it runs normally again. After web search it seems this is a known issue with defective throttles and NHTSA is investigating.
