I was traveling on the interstate at highway speed. Traffic had slowed alittle so I began to slow as well. When I pressed the accelerator nothing happened. The wrench light came on the dash. I had no control over the acceleration of the car. After almost being taken out be a semi I was able to get the car off to the side of the interstate. The car was idling very rough. I shut the car off and waited a few seconds. I restarted the car and the light was off. I was able to drive home with no more problems. Seems that Ford has a major issue. I thing they should be made to recall these cars before someone gets killed.

www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2010/Ford/Fusion/power+train traveling on interstate at 55 miles per hour when the car lost power and the wrench light came on it was all that could be done to avoid a highspeed accident. When the vehicle wa restarted it ran fine. However it continues doing this. The dealer says the throttle unit ($600) needs replaced this after the transmission was just replaced. We called the Ford customer service it took three weeks for their representative to return the call and he had the nerve to ask "what did we expect him to do"? with the web the companies can no longer lie the dealer and Ford first stated it was the first they heard of this, yet there are lawsuits everywhere.

I was at a stop at a railroad crossing. Upon applying the gas to go, I started to loose all power with the engine starting to shake, and the car seeming to stall, but limping along. Nothing happened as I pressed the gas pedal. I was able to pull the car over to the side of the road in a parking lot. The dashboard had a wrench light on. The car in the engine area was still vibrating and shaking, with no power but to limp along. I turned the car off. Waiting a few minutes and the car started up, but shaking an sputtering. I was able to drive the car to my job without any further problem. I called the Ford dealer and make an appointment for the following Monday. When going home, I drove at 30 miles per hour. The car lost all power two more times, stalling and limping along with the wrench lite on. I was able to get the car to the side of the road and it limped to my home. At this point, car was not safe to drive and the next day, aaa towed car from my driveway to Ford dealer. I mentioned the throttle body problem and dealer told me it would have to happen when they test drive in order to have part changed. They did give me a loaner and reported to me that car stalled out and lost power on their test drive. Throttle body part was changed and car has performed well since that time. $550 bill at Ford. This car was a death trap to drive with the throttle body defect.

Engine lost power without warning. We were at low speed and could get off the road. Dealer has cleaned the electronic throttle body and reinstalled it. Concern is what happens in the future if failure is in a very dangerous location. There should be a recall for this condition.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving with the illumination of the wrench warning icon. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic was performed. The contact was advised that the vacuum solenoid had failed. The dealer replaced the engine vacuum solenoid however the failure was not corrected. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 75,000.

Traveling down the highway at 70mph using cruise control, when the wrench symbol appeared on the dial and the car slowed way down and would not accelerate. We were able to pull to the side of the road, turned off the engine, waited a few minutes to restart and were able to drive away at normal speeds. This happened two more times within the 2 hour trip. We scheduled an appointment with the dealership and were told the problem was the throttle body and that it had to be replaced, but there were no parts available in the entire country and the part was on back order until perhaps 2 months. We were told this is a fairly common problem, but there was no recall forthcoming. I believe this is potentially a life-threatening problem that should be addressed by the company. I'm getting my car back from the dealership because I need transportation and have not been offered a loaner for the duration of the time it will take to get the new part. I will be living in constant fear that the problem will recur and I could be left stranded on the side of the road at some point when the car will not reset.

2010 Ford Fusion / 2.5L SE. One the freeway at a speed of 70mph and engine RPM at 2100 and transmission in D the throttle stopped responding and the vehicle speed began to rapidly decrease. The engine RPM dropped to 900. Very dangerous situation because of freeway traffic and no shoulder. After vehicle throttle stopped responding put the vehicle in neutral (now gliding down the freeway) and turned the engine off and restarted. This did not fix the problem, engine RPM returned to 900 and no throttle control. Was nearly hit while trying to glide to the right lane by traffic. Once the vehicle was glided to a stop shut the car off and removed key and waited a few minutes as semi's came within inches of my vehicle at 70mph. Restarted the vehicle and throttle responded. After two minutes of driving the issue repeated again.

  • 60,000 miles
The car suddenly stopped accelerating and the engine would only produce about 800 RPM. I shut the car off and restarted it and the problem repeated the next day at a lower speed (30 mph). The dealer diagnosed it and said it due to a defective throttle position sensor which would cost $475 and is not covered under any warranty.

I was traveling on the hwy going home. The little wrench light came on the dashboard without warning or any kind of notice and I could not accelerate at all. When I tried to press the gas pedal it would not do anything at all. I managed to pull over to the median. I tried shutting off the vehicle and then restarting it. This solved the problem temporarily. This happened to me three times the rest of my way home. Without warning the light comes on and you have no acceleration. I'm being told it could be the throttle body.

I was traveling on the kennedy expressway in Chicago at about 4:30 pm at rush hour time. The little wrench light came on the dashboard without warning or any kind of notice and I could not accelerate at all. When I touched the gas pedal nothing happened at all. I managed to get off on the nearest exit and was blocking traffic. Finally I tried shutting off the vehicle and then restarting it. This solved the problem temporarily. This happened to me three times intermittently, twice on the highway and once as I was trying to make a left turn at a busy intersection. No warning. The light comes on and you have no acceleration. I'm being told it could be the throttle body.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 65 mph a wrench illuminated on the dashboard and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The contact shut the vehicle off and restarted it. The wrench was no longer illuminated and the contact drove home. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated if the wrench was not illuminated they could not diagnose the failure. The dealer did not diagnose nor repair the vehicle. The contact called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. The failure mileage was 120,000. The VIN was not available.

The first incident I was driving down the highway doing 55 mph and my car shut off. I was able O start the car again and get out of the road. I replaced the battery since later that day my card wouldn't turn on. The second incident I was headed to the airport on my morning commute; I came to a stop sign and the car accelerated and the engine began to rev very loudly then I my car stalled out. I have my car in the shop and they advised that I have a bad throttle body and it will require replacement, the cost is $345 for the part and $190 for the labor. All while I am still paying on the loan.

This has happened on many occasions, from driving in stop and go traffic to driving on a highway. After driving the vehicle for some time, a wrench light comes on on the dashboard, there is no fuel going to the car and when I pull to the side, the car stutters like it wants to go and then stops again. After turning the car off and starting it again, the car drives like nothing ever happened. I have gone online and there are a lot of people who were complaining about the same thing and Ford has not recalled the part. I guess someone has to die in an accident for them to take action.

My wife was driving the car on our residential street a couple of weeks ago when the car began shaking and stopped. After restarting, car functioned normally. This was dismissed as an anomaly the first time. On 8.1 the car did it twice in the 8 mile trip home from work with my son and wife. Today, my wife and I were in the car when it did it right in front of the dealer where we bought it (unfortunately, it is Saturday and the garage is closed) then while I was waiting in front of panera a short time later the car just died. There again, each time the car restarted and ran normally.

When leaving home to go to the store, accelerator peddle stopped responding shortly after shifting into drive after leaving the driveway. The engine idled very roughly, so I shifted into neutral and pulled over. I put the transmission into park, turned off the ignition and then restarted the engine. It idled fine, so I continued on my trip. Shortly after, stopping at a stop sign, the same thing happened when pulling away from the stop. I was turning left, so I had to immediately turn right and pull over to avoid an accident. Restarted engine and continued to my destination. The same behavior occurred again on Y way back home when starting another left turn.

I was traveling on roadway at approximately 35 mph when throttle suddenly stopped responding. I pressed the accelerator repeatedly but engine appeared to stay at idle and vehicle slowed to a stop. A wrench symbol lit up on dashboard. Shut vehicle off and restarted and engine began running normally. Fortunately there were no vehicles behind me or intersecting with me which I would have had to avoid.

At 65 mph the car all of the sudden shuttered and went into limp mode. Pulled over to the side, wrench light was on and the car sat an idled/shuttered. Turned it off. Waited about 30 seconds and turned it back on, everything appeared fine, and no lights on the dashboard. Did an internet search and discovered many 2010 Fusion owners having same issue...throttle body. Took the car to dealer and confirmed faulty throttle body. Wanted $596 to replace throttle body and reprogram PCM. Way too much for a part that is about $150 and 10 minutes work. Dangerous situation, as highway speed and sudden loss of power do not mix.

The vehicle lost acceleration and stalled. Restarted and the condition recurred approximately in 3 or 4 miles. Again, I turned the key off then restarted and again, the condition repeated after several miles down the road. The car was taken to the Ford dealership the next day and no code was available for the mechanic to diagnose. The condition did not reoccur for six weeks and resurfaced again with identical symptoms. Returned the vehicle to the dealership where this time they affirmed the throttle body failure. The part is unavailable at this time because of high demand exhausted the availability of the unit.
