Driving to work on a busy highway, going approximately 62 miles per hour, when my car just started to die. I went from 62 miles per hour, down to about 5 miles per hour in a few seconds, my wrench warning light and check engine light were on, I cannot believe that I was not rear ended or that I was not the cause of an accident. I pulled over to the side of the road as best I could, turned the car off. When I restarted it and tried to move, it chugged and there was not any power. I sat for about 15 minutes, and tried again, I was able to get another couple of miles to work. I took my car to the dealership and they stated that it was the throttle body, the cost is $425 plus tax to fix, made me sick. After seeing all of the complaints about this, I cannot believe that the throttle body is not a recall item, it is truly a safety concern. My car is a 2010 Fusion, I had to spend $325 at 30,000 miles for new rotors, so this really is upsetting.

Ongoing issue with acceleration developed into a malfunction in the throttle body. I had noticed intermittent stutters during acceleration and deceleration. This time, the car lost power to accelerate, vibrated violently, and forced me to pull over for fear of causing an accident. Now it is recurring and although the code erases and it seems to be fine, it will suddenly fail to operate properly and cause me to cut out of traffic as quickly as possible.

Drove off from work and shortly after I noticed the car slowed down and started to vibrate and finally lost power. I was able to pull over, I turned off car then tried to restart but it did the same thing. I then decided to shut it off again and give it more time surely after a few minutes it seemed to be fine but right before getting home it happened again. Husband drove to autozone and had a diagnostic check and results were..."trouble shooting problem from auto zone code P2111 the throttle actuator control system".

While I was driving, the car would loose power. It would not die but would not have any acceleration. When I pulled off the road the idle would get very rough. I shut the car off and started it back up, then it would operate properly for awhile. Then it would do the same thing at different times and different speeds.

While on highway the vehicle stuttered, lost all throttle power (no acceleration) and the wrench light came on. Had to pull over to the nearest shoulder while losing speed. Once stopped the car jittered and tugged and continued to do so even while in park! after turning the vehicle off and then waiting a while, it started up without the issue and without the wrench light on. After taking it to the Ford dealership they told us it was the throttle body and that we would have to wait until it was ordered because it was backordered and also they said we would not be covered for this under warranty. I suspect they know of their faulty products and had the audacity to charge so much to get it fixed. This is truly a safety hazard.

Throttle body faults w/out warning (Ford part 9E926). When driving at highway speed the engine light (wrench) appeared and the car abruptly lost acceleration decreasing immediately from 70 mph to approx 10 mph in high speed interstate traffic. Engine idle bounced between 1.5 and 3.5 RPM causing the car to jerk and feel like it was going to stall. I was driving with my 5 year old son and was almost rear ended and nearly struck several times by other cars on the interstate still traveling at a high rate of speed while I had to switch lanes limping at 10mph. I was able to restart the car and clear the engine error after I reached the should and proceed. However this has continued to occur and even when the car is running without the engine light the RPM bounces around and the engine will not idle properly. The second time this happened I was in the middle of a busy intersection and lost thrust stalling and blocking oncoming traffic. In the last month I would estimate this has occurred 3-4 times per week during normal driving. I contacted Ford and was informed there was no recall however the part is on indefinite back-order and unavailable to me for repair. It may be several weeks before I can even obtain the part. I am forced to drive this car not knowing when it's going to shut down again and hoping that I am not involved in an accident while I wait for the part. This is entirely unacceptable.

Was driving on a state road going approximately 40-45 mph. Began to accelerate to go up an incline and then engine sputtered and then shut off. Same thing happened a week later going about 5-10 mph while accelerating from a stop sign on a residential street. Took the car to the dealership and the problem was a bad throttle body which was replaced.

Wednesday, two days before the incident I had taken my vehicle to Ford for the $423.74 recommended 60,000 miles service. The car had never stalled before this scheduled service. Friday I was traveling on a three lane interstate in traffic and passing a vehicle in the left hand lane when I realized that I had completely lost power. Everything was working, steering, air, radio, etc. But there was no power when pressing the gas pedal. I was placed in a dangerous situation as I made my way without power to the right hand lane and the side of the road coasting slowly. As I slowed I once tried moving the car from drive to low but still no power. When my car had almost stopped I could feel a bumpy low power as I pressed the gas. The car stopped and I turned off the engine. I immediately tried to start the car again but nothing happened. It was like the starter was bad, but after 5 minutes the car started and behaved normally. I immediately took the car back to the Ford dealer and was told it was the throttle body and that there is a problem with it but not a recall. It costs over $500 to fix. I was lucky not to have been involved in an accident because of this problem. There needs to be a recall. This is unacceptable.

I was traveling on I-65 at approximately 65 mph in the far left lane when I lost acceleration. The throttle control/drivetrain malfunction light came on and I was rapidly slowing in dense traffic with nowhere to lull off on the left side. I was able to pull off to the right through 3 lanes of traffic as the car shut off. I called my mechanic who advised me to restart it and drive to safety if possible. I done so and the warning light was gone and the car ran normally. I took it to my father's who used a code scanner and found a saved code of P2111. This is the code for tac stuck open. After investigation I found that Ford has numerous faulty throttle body units which require replacement. I believe the sheer volume of these issues are indicative of a bad product which produces a significant safety hazard. I could have stalled and caused a serious accident if I wasn't able to get to the right in time. This also could pose a risk if someone was turning left through traffic.

My car's throttle has failed about 20 times over the last few days. About 10 of those failures occurred on a dangerous interstate highway in heavy traffic. The car loses throttle and must be pulled to the side of the road, turned off, and restarted each time. The potential for an accident was high and I consider myself lucky.

This is the second incident where I've been driving and the car started to lose power. The wrench light came on and the car started stuttering. I was able to pull over to the side of the road and shut the car off and restart. It started a little rough so I turned off the air, and it drove fine. I'm seeing a lot of comments from others that they are having the same problem and it ends up being the throttle. I'm now deciding my next step.

I was driving on the highway when my car starting losing power. The little wrench light and check engine light came on. I was able to pull over to the side of the road and shut off the car. I restarted the car, but turned off the air conditioning. After driving another 7-8 miles, I turned on the air conditioning and the same thing happened. When I restarted the car, I turned off the air and it drove fine. I took it to a mechanic because the book that came with my vehicle said to have the diagnostics checked, but the mechanic said no code is showing up.

  • 40,101 miles
The first time, while driving down the interstate, in heavy rush hour traffic, the vehicle lost power and I had to make it across 2 lanes of bumper-to-bumper traffic to get to the side of the road. The "wrench" light went on and I could no longer accelerate. The vehicle stayed running, but had a very rough idle. I turned the vehicle off and it started right up and I was able to continue my trip. The next day it did it again, twice within 2 miles of each occurrence, also while driving on the highway. The second time the check engine light came on and I had it towed to the dealership. The dealership told me it was the throttle control and it was roughly $350 to have it fixed, because it was just out of warranty and it isn't covered under the 5yr 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. It only happened to me while highway driving with speeds 70 and above. Not a fun feeling having your car quit unexpectedly during highway driving. It's obvious Ford is having multiple issues with the same component, based all the complaints I have seen on the internet. By the way, the dealership told me I was lucky because Ford just reduced the price on the part as of 9/1/13. Boy, do I feel lucky!

Was taking off from stop light and lost control of acceleration pedal. Car would not react to pressure applied to pedal. Put car in park and it started jerking. Turned car off and on again and it acted fine for the next 30 miles. Same thing happened again. Took car to mechanic, couldn't find anything. A few days went by with no issues, then while driving at around 45-50 mph, the wrench light came on and the car dropped speed immediately to 5 mph. I had to make an emergency pull off in the grass as another vehicle was behind me and we were going around a curve. I started car again and drove about 3 miles and it did the same thing while driving. This has now happened about 8 times. Our mechanic has looked at the car twice and couldn't find the problem.

I was driving to work in rush hour traffic with cruise control on doing about 60mph and all of a sudden the car lost power.......engine began to run rough and would not accelerate above an idle (rough idle). There was no response to the throttle; the car would not go faster and could not maintain speed. It only decelerated. I immediately pulled out of traffic to the shoulder and limped to the nearest side street. I turned the car off, checked under the hood, and when I restarted, it ran perfectly fine. A check of the web and contact with the Ford dealer indicated the throttle body was bad. The dealer indicated this was a common problem, that the part has been upgraded twice but my vehicle was not part of a service bulletin/recall. A new throttle body and about $500 later the car is fine its clear may drivers/customers are experiencing this same issue this was dangerous. When the issue happened I was being followed closely by a large truck. I had no warning and the only available option was to immediately pull out of lane and onto the shoulder.. fortunately I was in the extreme right lane and could pull out of traffic without incident - it would have been a serious incident had I been in the center of left lane, or where there was no available shoulder.

I was travelling on an interstate doing 70 miles an hour when my car made a bang and I lost all throttle response. The car was running, seemed to go into neutral but pressing the gas pedal did nothing. I was able to cost over 4 lanes dodging traffic to get to a spot where I could come to stop. After turning off the engine and restarting everything went back to normal. Now just over a week later it happened 3 more times in 1 day. Doing research it seems this is a common complaint from Fusion and escape owners. It also seems there may be an investigation under way as to whether this should be a recall issue. Now if Ford was to fix this it would be 1 thing, but after almost killing me on the interstate I now have to fork over $400 to the dealership because even though my car is several thousand miles short of the 30K mile warranty, the 3 year stipulation on my warranty ended less than 3 months ago.
