I recently completed a car diagnostic and there were no reports of steering concerns. I was driving my son so summer camp and as I was trying to exit, my wheel locked and I had to use crazy force to get off the hwy exit and to avoid hitting the median. I had no warning lights in the car prior, but recived a message times after I would force the wheel "power steering assist failure".

Tucson, Arizona. The incident occurred on about June 10, 2022 around 10:00 a.m. The steering failed just after the car was started by the owner, the dash light "power steering assist fault"turned on and the car was nearly impossible to steer. The car was driven approximately 2 miles straight ahead and parked at home. The car was towed the next day to the AAA service center at 7060 Speedway, Tucson, AZ 85710. The owner researched recalls related to steering on the 2011 Ford Fusion; it seems NHTSA Campaign 15v340000/Ford Recall 15s18/393,623 vehicles affected by 06.23.2015. Steering complaints continue to roll in for the 2011 Ford Fusion, yet, the recall has not been extended. Steering issues appear be the same or similar to those issues covered by the previous recall. I wonder why NHTSA has not extended the recall.

I have a 2011 Ford Fusion. There was a recall 15S18 which was a recall on the Electric Power Steering Assist. Where the vehicle may lose power steering. It claims extra effort may be required at lower speeds. It doesn't matter the speed, if this system goes out, it is extremely difficult to steer. It was replaced in my vehicle in 2015, before I owned it. Then the recall 15N01 came out, which was an extended warranty of the Electric Power Steering Assist. I purchased the vehicle and the Electric Power Steering Assist failed and was replaced in 8/2020. Now less than 2 years later the Electric Power Steering Assist has failed again and Ford refuses to warranty a part that they provided and installed. If I had purchased the part myself, it would have had a 2 year warranty. But it was provided and installed by Ford. This system failure is an extreme hazard. The vehicle becomes almost impossible to drive. It feels like Ford never resolved the initial problem that led to the first recall of the Electric Power Steering Assist.

on January 14th 2021 I brought this car in to address the power steering(15S18), airbags, and Fuel Tank and Canister Purge Valve recall (15S34). The dealer reprogrammed the PSCM at no charge, inspected the Fuel Tank and Canister Purge Valve and replaced the passenger side airbag...we did not realize the didn't do the driver side airbag at that time. The vehicle had 172k miles on it at this time. on April 25th the driver assist power steering failed so I brought the car in again on April 27th. The car now has 200k mile on it and they want to charge $3400 to replace the rack and pinion. They indicate the vehicle is reporting the u3000 error codes which are related to the 15S18 recall. Shouldn't they honor the recall since the issue is related to the recall? Also, I feel like they did not address the recall during the first visit and this potentially put my family at risk driving the car with the possibility of the power steering failing.

On several occasions, when starting the car, an alert is displayed on the instrument panel that says "Power Steering Assist Fault", and the power steering system is inoperative. After restarting the car, the message usually goes away and the power steering is fully operational. There is already a safety recall for what seems to be a similar issue. That recall campaign number is 15V340000. For some reason, this car is not yet included in the recall.

After starting the vehicle, I was pulling out of my parking space when the steering wheel locked up. It required more effort on the steering wheel to turn the wheels so I could maneuver the vehicle through the parking lot. About that same time, I noticed a message come up in the information center in the instrument cluster that read, "Check Steering System". After moving through the parking lot for a minute, the steering assist returned and the steering wheel was no longer locked up. If a car had pulled out in front of me unexpectedly (which is a common occurrence where I live) while my steering assist was out, I would not have been able to avoid the impact. I found out through research through All Data there is a RECALL on the steering gear for my vehicle. I DID NOT RECIEVE A LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THIS DEFECT, which according to the recall I found, should have been mailed to me. I took the vehicle to the Ford dealership and they told me my vehicle was 1 year too old and 20,000 miles over the age and mileage limit to have the recall performed. They also wanted to charge me over $2500 to replace the steering gear. Since then, the steering wheel is locking up more frequently which is making me feel less and less safe while driving.

While driving down the highway, vehicles braked suddenly. While slamming on breaks the electric power steering went out resulting in a near high speed collision. At the same time as the power steering being lost, the Advancetrac light illuminated on the instrument cluster as well as a message stating "power steering assist fault". Upon returning home and searching the vin in ford website there is a "customer satisfaction program" for the electric power steering efforts. Upon contacting the local dealership service department it was stated by them that the program had expired. Ford HQ was also contacted who stated the same and that all repairs would not be covered. If Ford knows this was an issue, then customers should have been made aware of the program. Notifications should have sent out as failure to notify has left faulty cars on the road and puts millions of drivers and passengers in the car and in surrounding cars, businesses, and public at risk every day. Customer program should also be a recall so notifications are mandatory. Near death experience should not be how people become informed of the issue.

My sister in-law was driving her 2011 Fusion and when pulling into a parking spot had no power steering. She has two kids that were with her and she could not turn the steering wheel. Luckily this happened as she was parking as we thank God it did not happen 3 minutes earlier on the interstate and God only knows what would have happened. The warning message came up and said steering assist fault so we know it has an issue now. The vehicle is headed to a trusted friends shop since Ford shows no recalls for this on this car. The idea that so many people are having this same issue and Ford is doing nothing about it is alarming. Is it going to take lives being lost before Ford wakes up and takes care of a known issue?

The power steering system faulted on multiple occasions while the vehicle was in motion. This made the vehicle hard to control while driving. The dealer confirmed a fault in the power steering system. The dealer inspected the car for repairs. The first two times the power steering faulted, there was no warning light or sound. The third time it faulted there was a warning light and sound.

EPAS has gone out AGAIN! EPAS was repaired in 2016 before I bought my Ford Fusion Hybrid, was replaced in 2019 under dealer warranty, and as soon as I have a tune up and front end alignment done two days later while I-??m driving EPAS goes out again. Almost $3000 is what it costs to fix this faulty part and I should not have to keep fixing it after repairs are made. Now I-??m being told that it will not be fixed under CSP because it-??s already been fixed by the original owner and I am not the original owner. I-??m very upset and my car is just sitting there with 6K left to pay on it! I don-??t have the money to fix this vehicle for a 3rd time.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at 10 MPH, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering assist. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with code U300 - Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) failure. The mechanic related the failure to an unknown recall and informed the contact that the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, but the dealer informed the contact that he needed to pay out-of-pocket for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000. The error code that qualifies the vehicle for this recall repair, and evidence from Ford.com saying that safety recalls do not expire.
