NHTSA campaign #15V340000 happened in my garage.lost all power assist.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 35 mph, the steering wheel became loose and the service auto trac warning indicator illuminated. The contact pulled into a parking lot and turned off the vehicle. When the vehicle was restarted, the steering ability seized completely and "service power steering" appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 15V340000 (steering) by levittown Ford llc (980 S broadway, hicksville, NY 11801) on March 20, 2017 for the same failure. The manufacturer was notified of the recurrence. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 96,343.

The power steering in my 2011 Ford Fusion has been going out periodically. When this happens, I have to wait for the opportunity to make a wide turn because it's very difficult to turn the wheel. There's been several occasions when I caused traffic jams or almost got rear ended since the car behind me didn't expect me to take so long to turn. A lot of times the power steering goes out when I'm stopped at a red light. I can still drive the car to my destination locally using the streets but I fear that it will go out one day while I'm driving on the freeway. Luckily it's usually only me in the car when it happens but I'm afraid that it might also happen when my kids are in the car. It's also frustrating because only I can drive the car because when it happened once when my wife drove it, she panicked and wasn't strong enough to turn the wheel. This time, she did have one of my children in the car. I had to go meet her and drive it home. I've been researching this issue and have found that thousands of vehicles with the same make, .model, and year have experienced similar issues yet only certain vehicles are part of a recall. My car is experiencing exactly everything that the recall says it would yet when I run my VIN #[xxx] through Ford database, my car does not fall under this power steering recall. Which I find very disturbing. I've also contacted Ford corporate and my local Ford dealership and they just advise me that my VIN # is not part of that recall. Which is very odd. 2011 Ford Fusion while driving the power steering now and advancetrak warnings came on. Took to shop and was told rack and pinion needs to be replaced. Wanted to charge me $3000; I pick up my car and it's been working but I am afraid after reading everyone else's issues that this is bad.

The vehicle was taken to Ford of clermont (1101 fl-50, clermont, fl 34711), but parts were not available to perform the recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: Cas16880677. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

Now almost a year later it's having the same issue but this time it locked up where as last time all I had to do is restart the car and it released.

Dear sirs, my vehicle suddenly showed "power steering assist fault" while I driving on the street. And steering column locked. I immediately slow down and pullover the roadside. After this, steering column can be turned, but very hard and only within a narrow angle. 2011 Ford Fusion recall. I had the recall competed on my Ford Fusion for the steering gear. Within 6 months, my steering gear locked up again while I was driving on the interstate. Ford refuses to do another recall on this part. They said it is my responsibility to pay to have this done now since I have already completed one recall. They will not pay for 2 steering gear recalls. How is it my responsibility when apparently they didn't fix it right the first time.

When starting the car the steering (in stationary position) locks up and power steering failure light comes on. I turn the car off and re start and its fine. The steering wheel has become hard to manuever and makes a noise especially on left turns. Problem is progressively getting worse.there is a current recall for this problem, and my Ford dealer refuses to cover the fix because it has over 100,000 miles.
