I was beginning to back out of a parking space with my two young kids in the car after visiting the dollar store when my car froze up I looked at the dashboard it said power steering assist failed or similar to those words. I put my car in park and I turned my car off turned it back on and the same message came across the dashboard. I pulled forward to the spot in front of me and I could not turn the wheel. I had a family friend drive it down the street to my home. No leakage of fluid present.

This vehicle was being driven on a street and the steering wheel felt funny as driving. It started getting alot of play in it and jerks. I did take the car into a ase certified mechanic to learn that there was 2 recalls on this vehicle. Steering gear replacement, steering control module. Safety recall # 15S18 suppliement #1 and safety air bag repair or repacement. I took the vehicle to Ford, at first they couldnt find a recall for the steering. After some searching, they found it. The problem was first diagnosed by a ase certified mechanic. Ford wants to charge me $180 for diagnostic if the steering problem isnt related to the recall. Even though it was diagnosed by another mechanic as the steering gear,

My car is having trouble with the power streeting wheel. As I was driving my car the wheel tighten up and it was hard for me to turn. Power streering at fault is what flashes on the dashbored. I use my car to go to school and work and right now it's hard for me to do so. I went to the car dealer ship and they want two grand to fix it! they say I need rack and pinion.

Numerous times I have been driving and the power steering fault warning would flash across the display. When I tried to restart the car, the display changes warnings and says "power steering fault" or "severice power steering now". had a local mechanic clear out the code and steering would go back to normal...everything has been fine since but now the steering wheel makes a whining/weird sound when turning the wheel under 10mph and its very stiff when trying to turn but once I get over 10mph it loosens up and is normal...my car isn't currently under any recall but I feel like the power steering should be under recall if its a continuous issue

Driving home from work tonight and a mile down the road an alarm went off, traction control light came on and notification showed up that said service power steering now advancetrac. I made it down the road to a friends house fine and when I turned the engine off and on again, I was suddenly unable to move my steering wheel. I luckily was able to get to a safe place when this happened but I am seeing others that have had very bad stories. This is a reoccurring issue that needs to be addressed! I still have to call Ford and see if my vehicle is covered under the recall and I am worried because I am seeing too many stories of people with the same story as mine not being covered! not good! hope this is addressed soon!!!!

Vehicle makes random squeal noise when moving and turning 5-20 mph and sometimes feels like the steer tires are not turning when the steering wheel is turned. There are no fail lights illuminating on the dash. Sometimes brakes are being applied, sometimes they are not. According to Ford, this vehicle is not covered by the recall that other owners of Fusion encountered even though the description of their issue matches mine.

I got this 2012 Ford Fusion SE for daughter and yesterday, she called me to tell me that the "power steering assist fault" showed up on her dash. As she was about to try to back out of the driveway, she could not turn the steering wheel. She had to miss school and work, due to the issue, because I did not want her to take any chances. When I got home after work, to move it into the garage, to check it out, the dash code went away and it appeared to be fine. After doing research and calling the Ford dealership, they found a recall from 2015 that describes this same issue in 2011-2012 Ford Fusion but for some reason my VIN was not included, it seems that it's the same part and issue, that could/should include more vehicles. From what I've been reading and seeing, this seems to be happening more frequently, but actually seeing that people have been getting into collisions, with the intermittent computer glitching of the steering issue. It's just a good thing that my daughter was just attempting to back out when this happened. I see that others have not been so lucky. I pray that Ford recalls this and does the right thing prior to any serious injuries and/or deaths, to avoid heavy law suits and trajedy. This was a issue with these cars and appears to be growing by the numbers and nothing is being done at this point. Didn't do anything about it. I hope you will do your do diligence on these issues and fix every one of them before someone does get hurt. My daughter is drinving the car, because there are not other alternatives right now, but I pray that she does not get hurt while driving this car. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Occasionally my electronic power steering assist would fail and a warning light would come on and I would have no power steering. After turning the car off and restarting it, the issue would not come up. But now my power steering has failed and will not come back. Ford has not issued a recall for this safety issue.

I was driving my 2012 Ford Fusion sel down a street on October 4th 2020 near where I live and this alarm started going off and it alerted me the power steering assist fault and I lost my steering and hit a curb. Luckily I didn't do anymore damage or hit someone. I drug it home and had a wrecker pick it up to take it to the nearest Ford dealership. They diagnosed it as a faulty steering box or rack and pinion, it all needs to be replaced to the tune of $1868. The Ford dealership found a recall from 2015 that describes this same issue in 2011-2012 Ford Fusion but for some reason my VIN was not included, maybe by mistake seems how it's the same part that Ford knew was causing problems. It's just a good thing that I didn't hit someone and kill them with Ford knowing this was a issue with these cars and didn't do anything about it. I hope you will do your do diligence on these issues and fix every one of them before someone does get hurt. Trying to fork over 1800 in a time like this is very tough and I hope you can make it right with all involved. Thanks for your time. My power steering and advance trac. Went out all of a sudden. Called Ford and found out that Ford Fusion had a recall back in 2015 on the power steering, but they told me that my Ford Fusion's VIN number didn't match the ones that had a recall. I think this is very stupid. I'm driving a Ford Fusion and the odds of my power steering going out is very high, no matter if my VIN number is the correct one or not"!?!"

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that two years ago, while driving, the steering lost power without warning. The contact met his wife at the scene and drove the vehicle to the gordie boucher Ford of menomonee falls dealer, located at: N88W14300 main St, menomonee falls, wi 53051 where the technician stated that the recall, NHTSA campaign number: 15V340000 (steering), did not apply to the vehicle.
