My car has been diagnosed with the known engine coolant leak issue with the 2.0L engines in the 2013-2018 Ford Fusions. It just now today, 8/1/2024, threw up a check engine light and I went to an ASE certified technician and they diagnosed it to be the same problem Ford has covered in their own technical service bulletins.

Coolant intrusion into cylinder causing spark plug corrosion and warping of head. Confirmed by dealer that this is a known common issue with the engine and requires the engine to be replaced. Only warning sign on my car was an occasional misfiring that I brought the car in for within a week of noticing. Told that there was a recall on the model but not my specific car and it has expired so nothing can be done.

My engine started to act up so I took it to the dealership. I was told that there was coolant intrusion in the cylinder head due to manufacturer known defect and that my vehicle was unsafe to drive and that the recall for this issue was expired. I was told my vehicle was unsafe to drive as it could hydrolock and cause an accident. This is a frightening issue that should not have a time limit given the fact that it can cause the engine to suddenly lock up which could cause a serious even fatal accident. This issue was confirmed by the dealer technician. There were no warning lamps untill the failure.

My car is a 2017 Ford Fusion with a 1.5 liter eco boost engine. 2 weeks ago my check engine light came on. I brought my car and there was apparently a coolant leak that caused my entire engine to cease and I was told by ford my entire engine needs to be replaced for over 8500 dollars. My car is under 67000 miles. The coolant problem was stated to me as something that is seen by a lot of these engines. I did research to find out that this has been a common occurrence with fords carrying these types of engines. The coolant leak could lead to engine stopping in the middle of driving! I have a [XXX] son and a baby on the way. Knowing ford is still letting people drive these cars is unsafe and on top of that making people pay for something that is their fault. Because of this I am financially struggling and am so angry that this could have resulted in something much worse. There is even a class action law suit relating to this happenings against ford and this coolant leak problem. I reached out to ford support and they have stated they are aware this is an issue, but nothing has been recalled yet. So now I am forced to pay for a new engine! Ford is at fault and i am now paying thousands of dollars I do not have. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving my Ford Fusion to the Local Ford Dealer (Monday 7.1.2024) for the scheduled Oil change the check engine light came on. I informed the Service writer at the dealership upon arrival. He stated they can complete the oil change but, could not check that problem with the engine light coming on due to the fact you have to make an appointment to have the car serviced. At that time I did make an appointment for that service to have my car inspected for the following Monday (7.8.2024). on my way home the car started to run rough, like it was not running on all cylinders. On Friday 7.5.2024 I contacted an independent service mechanic took my car to an independent service mechanic. He ran a diagnostic test. he determined that coolant was leaking into cylinder #2, he stated it was due to either a broken head gasket or a crack block. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, by a tow truck on the same day. On Monday the Ford dealer diagnosed that coolant was leaking into cylinder #2, and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The car has 119,000 miles. It is out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The Service writer informed me that this is a common problem with the 1.5 Eco boost engine. He also stated that this has been a problem since 2014 engines. The Service writer referred me to the Ford Customer Service Department. I contacted the customer Service Department. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The Representative informed me that because the car is out of warranty, they would not do anything to help with replacing the engine.

I took our 2017 Ford Fusion in a couple of weeks ago for a service code showing we had a misfire on #2. We had the repair completed which included new plugs and coils. This past week, the car showed an alert that said the car was overheating. I drove it to the service center and the car gave me an alert that the computer had reduced power to lower the temp of the engine. The mechanic just called me and said that we have coolant in the cylinder. They said this is a known problem and that it is listed under TSB 22-2229 which superseded TSB 22-2133. I have called Ford and Ford dealerships and they sent me to this site to file a complaint. Their answer was that they couldn't fix it until the NHTSA told them to fix it--even though they stated they have seen a lot of these issues.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 106,000.

I was driving the car and it started to overheat so I pulled over. I then drove the car to my home and it had a miss in the engine along with white smoke coming out of the exhaust. After getting home I checked the coolant and it was low so i filled it up and as the car sat there idling you could see the coolant disappear and the white smoke and rough idle. I could not see where the coolant leaked out on the ground. I also had to have the transmission replace at the dealership I bought it from due to transmission complete failure. Time to recall this make and model. 1. Engine, Transmission failure 2. Sitting along the highway in the middle of no where.. a woman, you can guess, not safe!! 3.Yes Transmission replaced by dealership and Engine confirmed by service center to have coolant in cylinders. 4. No warning lights at all for either. Only temp gage for overheating.

The check engine light began coming on. I took it to the mechanic to determine what may be going on, but he could not find anything. The check engine light continued to come on. Took it back in for deep-dive diagnostics. Service Charging System came on - randomly and intermittently - took it to two different mechanics. At this time problem was intermittent and not consistent. Three mechanics attempted to dive deep into the situation but could not find it. They ruled out the alternator and other issues they suspected. The coolant and Temperature lamps came on once. I immediately stopped driving and checked the coolant. Then, I had mechanics check the coolant and make sure all was good. I took it to another mechanic, and he said it was now throwing all kinds of codes. Took vehicle to local Ford dealership where I was told I needed a new motor and it was not covered by Ford. The cost would be over $13,000. Upon my own investigation, I found that this is a common and recurring problem with this motor. This vehicle has 94k miles on it. In 2022, we purchased it with 78k miles on it for my son to go to college in. Now, I am being told by Ford that the motor will cost more than the car actually did.

Engine light came on while driving on the highway with no other warnings or symptoms that could be noticed during standard operation. Vehicle was taken in to Ford for service the next day and it was discovered that coolant was leaking into cylinder #1 due to the design of the engine long block. Coolant intrusion into the cylinder was causing the cylinder to misfire, as well as engine overheating. If I had not taken the vehicle in for service immediately, overheating would have continued, leading to engine failure while actively driving. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY FORD AFFECTING SOME OF THEIR 2.0L ECO BOOST ENGINES. Ford issued a technical service bulletin (TSB 19-2346) for its technicians on how to diagnose and fix this defect in December 19th of 2019. Ford service told me the repair would not be covered in any extended coverage or powertrain coverage from the factory.
