My steering column started making a clacking noise with any turning of the steering wheel and going over any bumps, dips in the roadway made it even worse. There was some play to the steering wheel making it seem like you could lose control at any moment. It was caused by a worn steering coupler. It cost me over $240 for dealership to fix. This appears to be a constant problem for the Hyundai and should be a recall investigation by your Agency.

Freeway speeds the steering wheel sticks either center or when turning it will stay stuck causing the car to swerve when pulled. Force has to be used to unstick the steering wheel it feels like a magnet is in the steering wheel and it should not feel like that. Immediately after purchasing my 2013 Hyundai Sonata, le, 2.0 T, in September 2013, the steering mechanism displayed slack and a clicking, thumping noise when in 'drive' or 'park' position, and whenever prodding the steering wheel in either direction. Shortly thereafter, I took my vehicle into the Hyundai of long island city dealership, where I had purchased it, and was dismissively told this was normal due to "vehicle's sophisticated electronic steering". over ensuing years, and while vehicle was still under its 5-year/60,000 mile warranty, the problem became progressively worse, eventually leading to replacement of its damaged 'flexible steering coupling' [part 56315-2K000-fff] on 08/27/19, but said repair did not correct persistent steering gear assembly problem, necessitating replacement part 56500-3Q400! respectfully, I believe this prevalent, ongoing steering gear problem should become an NHTSA 'recall' or a Hyundai technical service bulletin (tsb), since thousands of Hyundai Sonata owners are experiencing this same problem, many past their warranty periods, which is exactly how the common 'flexible steering coupling' defect recently became a tsb, and why such repairs are now being made and honored on certain vehicles past their warranty periods. I believe that my steering gear assembly problem should have been properly addressed when I first presented the issue to the dealership, back in 2013, and while my vehicle was still under its warranty! please help us investigate this vehicle's serious, widespread mechanical design/manufacturing problem, and please order or convince Hyundai motor America to cover this repair of approximately $1,200, beyond its warranty. Takata recall, I've been experiencing brakes, my steering wheel shakes when I brake, and the exterior lights my tail lights are going off and on. All these issues were from January of 2019 current date July 27, 2019. I have taken my vehicle to the dealership and mavis tire. I got a new axle, brakes, routers, new tail lights nothing is working. It's been long overdue. Hyundai dealer wants a total of $1700 to fix. I refuse when I verbal told them there are complaint from all vehicle owners that had the same module vehicle as me. I looked and there is no recall on these issues. I told them I have three little kids and I don't feel safe driving my car anywhere because of these issues. Hyundai refuse to help!!!
