It has been to the dealership on 5 different occasions and in spite of software updates, the problem persists. Since some vehicles with this same transmission have been reported to suddenly shift into neutral while driving down the freeway, I am very concerned. Jeep is aware of the problems with this 9 speed transmission yet seems incapable of coming up with a solution to fix it.

Driving my vehicle over the weekend while in motion on a city street my vehicle turned off and then turned back on, the vehicle turned completely off no power could not do anything the vehicle turned on and was able to continue driving. Where my family and I were extremely nervous the remainder of the time while driving home. Thank god I was not driving on a busy highway where this problem could have caused an accident where my family and myself could have gotten seriously hurt or worse could have killed someone in my vehicle or any other vehicle due to an accident. When the vehicle turned on again the check engine light came on and the start and stop system light came on advising to have the system checked, the rest of the time the vehicle was being driven home it constantly sounded like it was going to loose power and turn off.

Noticed hundreds of complaints on the internet about the same issue. Transmission problems. The transmission bangs intermittently in varying degrees if intensity from noticeable to extreme. When the bang is extreme it feels like the vehicle was rear ended by another vehicle. It seems to occur in the lower gears when the vehicle is hot and cold. I drive harder than my wife and the banging occurs regardless of the driver. Unable to identify any common factors other than occurring in the lower gears while up shifting and down shifting. I have brought is in for service 3 times. Each of the first two times they were unable to dubolicate the issue. The last visit on May 24, 2017 the head service technician acknowledged the bang during a test drive. He said he would order a new transmission but first had to notify Chrysler. Today we were notified they had to first replace the valve body and were not replacing the transmission.

The 9 speed transmission on this vehicle does not shift properly, especially through the first 3 gears. I have brought my 2015 Jeep Cherokee in for transmission issues countless times and have been told this is how this transmission is suppose to operate. I am supposed to accept that the shifting from 1st to 2nd can be delayed and then a hard shift that sounds like someone hit my car when it finally decides to shift into third or the same is true from 3rd to second. The dealership finally was able to correct these hard shifts with a software update until I realized what the software actually did. The car will now not shift into 2nd when slowing down, and when it does finally shift down, after slowing down to 3 mph, it shifts to 1st gear completely by passing 2nd gear. This causes the car to accelerate very slowly if you get caught between 1st and 3rd gear and if you press to hard on the accelerator it tends to downshift too hard causing the car to lurch forward and cause a potential accident with any cars in front of you. This had been going on since June 2015 until the software update removed 2nd gear from the downshift. Since the car does not down shifts to 2nd my car takes longer to slow down as there is no help from the transmission and this can also cause an accident as your stopping time is increased, as well as additional wear and tear on your breaks.

Transmission malfunction at high rate of speed on interstate, lost power and ability to accelerate while traveling on interstate. To repair a software upgrade was run on the vehicle. I have verified that no recall existed for my vehicle despite the fact that transmission software problem was known by Chrysler. Some vehicles had been recalled but my vehicle has not been included despite the fact that it contains the same 9 speed transmission that has failed. This incident occurred at high rate of speed on interstate with heavy traffic and caused a significant risk of crash.

Vehicle not shifting properly. Will not down shift into second gear(stays in third gear) when starting up steep hills or when slowing for traffic signal that has changed to green before coming to a complete stop. Stays in gear too long when entering highway on ramps, mostly when they are on an up hill incline. Loud clunking sound when shifting from reverse to drive when not moving. I do not know the exact date that this started, but it was within the first year of ownership.
