NHTSA issue 1096880. 18 Apr 2017: Drove out of side street onto two lane highway and the vehicle stopped moving in the middle of the road making off sounds and "check engine" light came on. Fooled with gear shifter. Began to move only slowly in 1st gear. Headed back to my street and half way stopped moving again. Pushed over to side of road and called roadside assistance. It was a very scary and unsafe position to be in cross ways of a two lane highway and can't move. Decided to try and see if I could get the rest of the way to my house. Couldn't go over 5-10 mph. One time rpms raised high and went back down. Could not climb driveway to garage. Had to leave side of the road.

One morning I started the car, I heard water moving from the engine area. While, driving the car I heard a noise's like a pressure cooker sounds. Once I arrived at work I walked around to the passage side to retrieve my staff. I could smelled antifreeze. I contacted Jeep right away and they contact a tow company. It was drop off. The dealership worked on it for a couple days. They did pressure test for external leak, didn't locate a leak. They didn't do a internal examine. It's 2 year old vehicles already leaking antifreeze. I have my vehicle into the dealership twice but still smell antifreeze. Two pressure test later nothing. I just pickup my vehicle for the second time. Why is Jeep vehicles having so many problem. My psi, transmission and radio making sounds when its off. Jeep is a bad vehicle and it just a matter of time, humans might be in damage due to the uncaring manufacturing company that makes lot's of money of the back of working americans.

Transmission had to be replaced shy of 5,000 miles. After replacement, I have continued to have the following issues. 1. car never downshifts from 3rd to 2nd. It will downshift to 3rd and then will go into 1st when the car stops. 2. on downshift from 5th to 4th at 26mph, RPM's spike and car surges forward for a second or two until gear is engaged. Has almost caused wrecks in the rain and snow. 3. when coming to a rolling stop, the cause pauses and will not accelerate when getting back into the gas because the car is in 3rd gear and not in 2nd as it should be. I have almost been rear ended numerous times. Chrysler refuses to acknowledge these as a safety hazard and instead sticks to their story of that is a normal characteristic. I asked if the transmission was working as intended, why have they released so many software updates to fix the many bugs associated with their transmission. They declined to answer. I sincerely wish someone would hold them accountable.

The transmission shifts rough in the lower 3 gears. The dealerships shop manager told us there is not a fix for it. There are software upgrades but they do not fix the problem. I have had one upgrade but it did nothing. The shop manager told me the newest upgrade make the transmission shift from 1st to 3rd, skipping 2nd. He also told me a replacement transmission would make it worse. 1st gear: The drivetrain engagement from a stop is interesting. Some owners say it feels like it can take a full second from the moment they step on the gas to when the car actually starts moving. And once it does start moving, its a coin flip if youre going to steadily get up to speed or squeal some tires. 2nd gear: One of the most common complaints is how the 9-speed hangs out in 2nd gear far too long. 3rd gear: When the transmission finally shifts into 3rd gear it can be an aggressive, lurching transition. Going from 2nd to 3rd gear is a great way to feel what whiplash feels like, without the inconvenience of having to get into an accident.

I was driving into work and all of a sudden the words, "service transmission" came across my dashboard. I was coming up on a red light, so I stopped for the light. When the light turned green, I went to accerlate and my car would barely move. When I was able to get it going, it would only go 10 mph. I immediately pulled into a parking lot and called aaa. While waiting on aaa to arrive I started doing some research regarding the issue and saw that there is or may be a recall for this exact issue. However, I was not notified. I also see that there are multiple complaints regarding this issue from other Jeep Cherokee owners who have all experienced the same issue/concern. I could have been in a very serious car accident. This needs to be looked into.

I purchased a 2015 Jeep Cherokee trailhawk in February of 2015. It was running fine until I took it in for a recall and a software update. When accelerating from a stop or yield, the Jeep hesitates then it will lunge forward. On December 8, 2015, I took the Jeep in for a recall, there was also a software update. After that date my vehicle was never the same. Prior to December 8, 2015, I had no complaints about the transmission. We have taken the Jeep back to the dealership December 29, 2015, February 12, 2016, May 23, 2016 with our concerns being completely ignored. In June of 2016 I contacted Chrysler and was instructed to take my Jeep back to the dealership. The dealership had my Jeep for 2 days and I was told the problem was fixed. It was not! it continues to lunge forward. I no longer drive it on the highway because when I am merging into traffic, it hesitates and I have had to pull off to the shoulder. I would like to be able to enjoy the vehicle that I have invested so much into. After being told by the mechanics and the manager of the service department, that I just don't know how to drive....it is good to know, I am not the only one with this problem and hopefully it will soon be fixed

2015 Jeep Cherokee transmission: Warning light four wheel driving system unavailable service required! when driving the transmission would shift through 2nd gear and get stuck there with very high rpms, then slamming into third. (city street & highway) it accelerates when downshifting. Normal driving, no power. While driving loud whining sound from under the SUV. When stopped and in drive and turning on ac or heat, the rpms would drop below 1K and the SUV would automatically increase the RPM causing it to lurch forward. Transmission shifted randomly. The dealership we leased the Jeep from replaced/reconfigured the drivetrain control module and flash programmed the ECU. They replaced a defective transfer control motor. They checked wiring harness and called a regional technician. All of these "fixes" failed after an extended test drive. Rt 46 Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge said they now need to replace the transmission control motor. The car has been at their shop for almost a week. Chrysler corporate said they will not cover consequential damages due to defective parts under warranty. The sales manager at rt 46 Chrysler Jeep Dodge would not take our 2015 Cherokee as trade in for a new SUV because he called it a lemon. This vehicle is unpredictable and unsafe while driving. The dealership we leased the Cherokee from doesn't even want it back.

While pulling out, into traffic, my tire caught some icy slush. It started to spin. As I was already on the road in traffic, I gave it more gas to go. The engine revved. I noticed the rpms had pegged around 6000+. I noticed no traction control, at least not how I have felt it in other vehicles. I finally got out in traffic. This is when my car went haywire. The dashed flashed a warning that my car was going into safe mode and would be shifting to neutral. Then there was a loud clunk and it felt like I got hit from behind. I did not, although I'm sure the person I pulled in front of would've like to have hit me, as he was blowing his horn at me and flipping me off. My car was now in neutral and couldn't go anywhere. I pulled to the side of the road. As I came to a stop my car engaged the parking brake. I was panicked and scared. I turned off my car. I called my husband. I tried to restart my car. It restarted but I could not disengage the parking brake. The check engine light came on. The traction control light came on. The brake light came on. My husband showed up and through trial and error he found out that he could only disengage the parking brake if the car was in neutral. He drove it around some and it seemed fine. I drove it to work, with all those dash lights still on. I called the dealership and got my car in. Within 2 days the dashlights had turned off and everything seemed to be normal. I took my car in and since there were no lights on at that time they couldn't diagnose anything. They told me it was a safety override and I just needed to learn to drive it. (I was livid, as I have had many problems with the transmission) a vehicle should not shut down in traffic. Luckily I was on a rural road when this happened. I couldn't imagine what could of happened if I was pulling out across 5 lanes of traffic or merging on to a busy freeway. This is unacceptable.

My vehicle continuously "cluncks" when shifting between certain gears. Happens daily now and is very unsettling because there is a loss of power/acceleration when it happens. Started when shifting between 3rd and 4th but now does it from 1st to 2nd. Dealership is well aware, say there are about 2-3000 Jeep out there doing the same thing but they won't fix it because the check engine light doesn't come on and they don't know which part is broken/failing.
