  • 64,000 miles
About a month ago, my 2016 Jeep started to stall as I was driving the vehicle. The steering wheel locks and the battery sign flashes, then the car tells me to place the car in park. I shut the car off, wait about two minutes then restart the car. Sometimes I will make it to my destination, sometimes it stalls on me again. It's happened too many times, and I scared to drive the car anymore. It has been in a shop for three weeks now, and there is nothing that they can find wrong with the vehicle. They hook it up to a machine, but no error messages are reported to them.

I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee limited. When I am driving the vehicle and slow down such as to make a turn or stop at a redlight, the engine dies out. This has happened multiple times. I had a diagnostic test done on it, and the test indicated the throttle body needed cleaning or the air filter was dirty. I had the throttle body cleaned and the air filter replaced with a new one. The vehicle is still doing the same thing. The is a big safety concern in that the vehicle has stalled while I was in an intersection making a turn. I am concerned that I will get hit by on coming traffic, if this continues to happen. I do not have another vehicle to drive nor is public transportation available. Jeep needs to look into this safety issue before someone is seriously injured or killed.

I was on the highway eight hours.on that trip and I felt as if I was gonna pass out. Didn't know what to do the smell is still in the car. I only drive to the store and back now.

My vehicle stalls while driving; on the expressway, after a car wash, in the school parking lot. This is very dangerous!! it happened 3 times during rush hour traffic on a Friday night. Online complaints are plentiful...this needs to be addressed, someone is going to be seriously hurt!! currently at the shop, they cannot figure out what the issue is. This has happened on numerous occasions.

I purchased a 2016 Jeep Cherokee and since day one the start/stop feature never have worked properly and it wasn't until recently that, I was told by my current dealer that, it is the backup battery and that Jeep have had problems with the manufacturer and supposedly Jeep is looking for another manufacturer but, I feel Jeep always knew this and did not inform the dealers and consumers. This is been happening for 2 years now and the Jeep representative have said to me that, she have some people on her list and I am not one of them and at the time of this report/complain, I haven't received any information, update either from the dealer or Jeep. If other consumers Jeep owners are having the same problem then; why Jeep fail to report the situation as a "recall"? the start/stop and backup battery is not a critical problem that might stop the car from functioning but, if I decide to sell or give the car on trade-in people are going to ask me about it and I'm afraid I might lose money/value because of the feature not working.

At 61,000 miles my Jeep started having a strong fuel smell in the cabin after coming to a stop with the auto-start dis-engaged. Reading online, many people on the forums have similar issues with Cherokee since the early 2000's with no known malfunction to fix. The exhaust smell has caused headaches in the last week.

I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee bought brand new from the dealer. At approximately 15K miles, I started hearing a clicking sound when driving from driver to reverse. I went to the dealer multiple times and was told they could not figure out what was wrong with it. Finally the dealer figured out that the rear differential needed to be replaced at only 15K miles. At approximately 25K miles, I was hearing a whistling sound on the driver side front end when cruising at aprox. 20mhp or less. I took it to the dealer mult. Times and they could not figure out what was wrong with it. The dealer replaced a rear axel boot for the shaft that was throwing grease, thinking that would solve the problem but it did not. I heard the whistling once again before even leaving the lot. The dealer finally figured out the driver side front end bearing was bad and would need to be replaced. The dealer replaced the shaft axle. I have had approx 4 transmission software updates done since I have had the vehicle. The dealer states this would need to be purchased for approx $140 each time after the power train warranty expires for the Jeep. Keep in mind my Jeep has only 33K miles on it was this point. Now I have a Jeep that has a panoramic sunroof that makes noise as well when going over bumps and potholes and the dealer states they do not hear anything. I have a tire alignment done on the Jeep at 25K miles for $120. I went back to the dealer with 32K miles on it to have the sunroof checked out and they are telling me I need another alignment. So the alignment has gone out again in less than 10K miles? there has been nothing but issues with this Jeep since day one and every other Jeep I have owned in the past.

After I start the car up in the morning or after it has sat for awhile, it will run for about 5 minutes and then the engine will completely die, the battery light comes on and the screen says "shift to P then desired gear". when it does this, I lose throttle power, breaks and steering. I have to put the car in park and try to turn it off, when I try and turn it off it cranks like it is trying to start and won't. after I get the car turned off and go to turn it back on, it cranks really hard for about 45 seconds before starting. Then it smells like something is burning, it will do this 4-5 times before it starts running ok. After it dies, the transmisson feels like it is jumping/jerking and the car will randomly ding like it does when the windshield wiper fluid is low but nothing shows up on the screen or in the messages. It has died in the middle of an intersection, with the sterring locking up and the throttle losing power, this could have caused a major accident.

Over the last 2 weeks, while driving my Jeep has lost power. No warning light or anything, my Jeep just dies. It will say "shift into P, then select gear" after I have lost power. My lights/radio/bluetooth all still work, but I can not break nor accelerate nor steer. I was nearly T-boned this am, and nearly rear ended last week.

Stalling while driving, mostly when making a turn or as wheel is turned; has almost caused multiple severe accidents to occur. Has happened while driving on the highway, street, and pulling out of a parking spot on several occasions. System stalls and then a message appears 'shift to P'. having to quickly stop in incoming traffic, put into park, shut off engine and restart to work. When making smaller turns the system dings as if a message alert will appear but nothing shows.

I have had transmission issues since buying the vehicle. I have been to the dealer about 3 or 4 times to have the issue fixed and it was never fixed. Low power, hesitations in acceleration, randomly dropping speed while acceleration, and complete loss of power. It happens when in motion at all speeds but mostly at speeds under 40 mph. It all continues to this day and I have all but given up on getting Chrysler to take responsibility. I am sometimes even afraid to drive the vehicle when one or more of these symptoms happens. Chrysler needs to take responsibility. As a consumer I am entitled to get what I pay for!

While at a stop light, my Jeep completely shut off on me and we had to start it back up and it started back up. However this has happened many times before and think they should recall this considering how many of the same complaints I am seeing on this. I have 2 kids in my car at all times and fear it doing this while driving as well. I took it to Jeep and they checked it out but now it just feels hesitant while driving. Scares me to death

2016 Jeep Cherokee latitude 4X4 (25K miles) will stall or lose power while driving. Happened several times in past few months. Noticed first when had trouble starting in the morning a few times (after a recent oil change). While driving, Jeep latitude 4X4 will jump into gear while slowing jolting the car forward, temporarily lose power (RPM drop, and mph drop), or completely lose power while driving (happened on both city and highway). Complete loss of power happened several times while turning, coming around turn, indicator will ding then suddenly steering stiffens, no power from gas pedal, and car slows to stop. Once stopped, message screen displays 'shift car to P then to desired gear' I then have to shift car to park and restart (sometimes taking 3 or 4 attempts). This has also happened while attempting to merge onto highway (coming around bend of on ramp) luckily there was a large shoulder and little traffic to pull over safely. This poses an immediate risk of safety of not only myself, but passengers and other vehicles. If this were to happen at a busy intersection, highway, or dangerous road conditions (low visibility, slick surface, etc) and accident will occur. I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle.

Keep getting service shifter and need to stop vehicle and shut off and start up again. Sometime vehicle will run good for a couple of days, other times get 5 minutes down the road and it returns. Went on a long road trip and have to pull over a number of times on a very busy interstate. I brought it into the shop three (3) times with the same issue (late date 8/2/18), last time I was told it would be $380 to replace a harness for some kind of cable and they needed to order parts. Still waiting for the call from the shop with a date to replace the harness.
