My dash is displaying 'service shifter' and my lights by my shifter are all lit up beside the reverse. It began doing it only in reverse but now, 9 months later, is doing it at any given point. I did a scan on it and it says has to do with the 'transmission control module' and 'electronic control module'.

At random times I will get an error on my dash board where the electric speedometer shows and it says "service shifter". also, all the lights on the shifter (P, R, D, etc) turn on in red. I will not go away by pressing the ok button. It was not happening a whole lot, just from time to time, but lately like the past week or so it has been turning on more and usually goes away if I turn the vehicle off, take out the key and then turn it back on. This seems to happen at any given time, whether the vehicle is in motion or not. The latest was yesterday, I have not driven it today.

Whenever enroute the car battery or whatever the issue may be electically would completely shut off locking the steering wheel, rendering the vehicle dead. Even with turning off the car and starting it, the process takes three to four tries. Itll happen randomly sometimes at light intersections, making turns, even on the highway. Its been happening for the past 4 months even after oil change and two battery exchanges. Today it happened again, twice, once going through a light dying in the middle of the intersection, and the second was passing on the overpass. There hasnt been any accidents or injuries yet but there has been a vast amount of close calls.

I bought my 2016 Jeep Cherokee latitude from a carmax about 7 months ago with about 30K miles on it. A few months later, my service shifter light came on when I turned my car on. I started driving and nothing was happening, but the light remained on. I pulled over to the side of the road soon after and after turning off and on the car a few times it disappeared. In the past month or two I have had this light come on many times. After looking online, it seems like this is a reoccurring issue with Jeep Cherokee from 2016-2017 and the problem persists months after it has been serviced. I am going to be taking my Jeep in to be serviced because of this warning and will monitor closely if/when the warning reappears.

At about 20K miles, a warning on the display popped up that says, "service shifter" and all of the gear shift lights all lit up. This happened two times, once while the vehicle was in motion and once while it was parked. After those two times, it stopped and didn't happen again until now. The issue has returned at 45K miles and is happening a lot. When it happens while I'm moving, the engine revs up really high. When I'm parked and it happens, I have to turn the vehicle off and back on before I can shift into gear. The dealership has not provided a solution.

The service shifter light keeps coming on. With that..the lights next to the park, drive, neutral and drive letters all turn red. I'm taking it to a dealership this Saturday and I know that it will cost me. I had my two kids in the car 1 and 3 years old when it happened. My car was parked overnight in my garage because it's been raining all week and I didn't want to get out into the rain to let my two kids inside. I drove it about a mile down the road when this problem started. I read that this is a reoccurring problem with this vehicle that a lot of people are having. Some say the problem gets worse like the vehicle shuts down while driving and others say they have to keep paying to have it 'fixed' but the problem with keep happening. Also my vehicle had a misfire on the 2nd cylinder and my vehicle kept jerking two weeks prior to this incident but we also paid to get that 'fixed'. I got this vehicle because I needed something reliable to drive my family around in and it's causing me more headache and now I have to worry if my kids are safe to ride with me in it.

I continue to get error on dash that reads "service shifter" and all of the gears lights, light up. This is the 3rd time I have had the shifter assembly and housing unit replaced. When it happens, the transmission slips and it has gotten stuck in gear on at least 2 occasions. This is a 2016 Jeep Cherokee with 46K miles which I have had for 14 months. The first time it was replaced, was after having the Jeep for 3 months, then happened again about 6 months later, had assembly replaced a second time, and it is currently in the shop for the 3rd time to have it replaced as well as the transmission checked due to it slipping and getting stuck in gears. It typically happens when I first turn the car on, and will reset itself if I turn the car off and then back on again. On 2/28/20, it happened multiple times during the day both when parked as well as when I am driving, which is concerning.
