While driving, my car will randomly shut off completely. There is a dinging noise and a quick flash of the battery light and then it says the press brake and push start. I can not accelerate but can brake. As soon as I'm completely stopped, the steering locks and it struggles to start again. It is random and has happened more than once in a row. It happened 4 months ago and the service department said the battery failed and replaced the battery, but it happened again a week again while I was turning. After I restarted it, it did it like 15 seconds later. Then two days after that it shut off randomly while I was driving 35-40 mph down a straight road. I've taken it in again and this time they can't find anything wrong with it. Battery was fine, no codes. Even the software that got updated because of the recall (stalling while driving) was fine. I've seen people say that the oil level can cause it to stall, but my oil was at 60% at the time it started happening. It's not safe that the car randomly shuts off without notice, while driving on a road or highway. That can cause a serious accident if it happens at the wrong time.

I'm not sure if I picked the correct category. But basically sometime when I stop my vehicle shuts off. It has happened a few times now. My car no longer does the thing when it turns the engine off to save fuel. My vehicle also starts so sometimes, like it's having problems with the engine turning over.

Cherokee

  • 60,000 miles
The contact owned a 2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude. The contact stated that while driving on a damp road at 45 mph, the vehicle independently went into park which caused the wheels to lock as several unknown warning lights appeared on the instrument panel. Due to the contact losing control of the vehicle, the vehicle slid off the side of road and hit several metal poles located in a farm yard. Once the vehicle came to a halt, the contact shut off the vehicle and discovered that the front driver side tire had detached from the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. A police report was not filed and no injuries as were reported. The contact was able to change the driver side tire with a spare and drove the vehicle home. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic where insurance deemed the vehicle a total loss. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The VIN was unavailable at the time of the complaint.

  • 30,000 miles
On Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at approximately 1130 hours, my recently purchased 2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude plus 4X4 with 30,000 miles locked up at a speed approximately 30 plus mph, while entering an interstate on ramp. A tractor trailer traveling at approximately 50 miles an hour narrowly avoided me in a near head on / T-bone accident. My vehicles engine revved prior to my transmission making tremendous noise and suddenly my vehicle felt as if I had just hit a solid concrete wall. My vehicle lost all steering and I had zero control over where the vehicle was traveling. My dash lit up with every light and my parking brake was also engaged. If this had happened a second later, I wouldn't be alive! if this had happened on the interstate at 70 mph I can't imagine what damage this vehicle would have cause physically to me or any passenger. Let alone who this vehicle would have hurt. All these engines and transmissions should be recalled, they will kill someone. The transmission will damage the engine and vice versa, so recalling one after it damaged the other, is like putting a band aid on a turd! northbound interstate 77 on ramp at the pocatalico entrance (I have owned this vehicle approximately 3 weeks and this is my first vehicle purchase). Again, I would ask the NHTSA to recall all the engines and transmissions for this vehicle, these are lemon's which will kill, if they haven't already. I have seen the Jeep lawsuit for the 2014, 2015's. please stop them from selling these powertrains for the 2019's! or at least make Jeep recall them. This is fraud. If it's not, I don't know what is. So I'm stuck with a vehicle that can kill me, you guys are the only ones that can stop this. Thanks 🙏

  • 42,560 miles
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that several service indicator lights were displayed while driving 79 mph prior to the vehicle shutting off independently. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the roadway. The vehicle was restarted however, operated with reduced engine power. The vehicle was slowly driven to don johnson's cumberland motors (1925 elm St, cumberland, wi 54829, (715) 822-4931) to be diagnosed. The mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was with the transmission. The contact was referred to the dealer for assistance. An appointment was scheduled but was still pending. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,560.

Driving down the road and the automatic transmission shifts hard into a certain gear, 3rd to be exact. It feels like the transmission is going to fall out. Then when I have cruise control on and its set at 70 going down a hill and the engine revs the rpms past 5 to slow down which it never does until I use my brakes to show down. The car is in motion, but on 9/5/2020 the clunk sound did it 4 or 5 times that day and I had the air on. Stopped in a parking lot to the store to grab things, then the check engine light goes on. Get home about 2 miles away from the store and went to put in reverse and the car wouldn't move. Then put it into park and back into reverse then in could move the vehicle

Cherokee

  • 47,616 miles
After coming to a stop at an intersection with a red light I was at a complete stop and the auto engine on/off feature activated. When the light turned green I went to accelerate but as soon as I applied the accelerator the displays, dash lights, and headlights all turned off. The vehicle's engine also turned off. The electronics stayed off for several more seconds before coming back on but I could not start the vehicle for nearly a minute. While attempting to turn the vehicle back on I had put it in park, had my foot on the brake, and had held the push to start button in all three positions. The engine did not attempt to turn over at any time. After approximately 1 minute, I was finally able to start the vehicle again and continue to my home. Once I arrived, I cycled through the vehicle information screens. The battery read an output of 13.6 volts. The vehicle acted normally afterwards and no warning lights appeared after or were on before.

While coming to a stop at a freeway entrance I slowed then when I was able to enter the traffic stream I accelerated and there was no acceleration or was slower than normal. This has happened several times. The car engine in not off but at idle. This is dangerous because you have to accelerate rapidly. Sometimes acceleration comes on abruptly after 2 seconds of pedal being pushed down

When backing out of flat driveway onto a downhill slope the vehicle transmission fails to go into drive, seeming to be hung up in neutral for 3 maybe 4 seconds then into drive. This problem has also presented itself when backing out of a parking space on any grade. Transmission and engine were flashed by dealer at 5200 miles. No improvement. Mechanics at dealership said they are not aware of the problem. At 5215 miles she going back to shop. Same issue. Vehicle is not safe to drive!

  • 20,000 miles
On June 15, 2020, I turned left onto a city street and my vehicle began making the warning sound, the same sound when the seatbelt isn't buckled. A few seconds later when I turned right into another city street, the battery level warning came on, then the entire dash lit up and the vehicle quit. After a few attempts to restart, the engine came back on. The next day after I made a left turn, the same thing occurred, the battery level flashed on the dash, then the entire dash lit up and the engine shut down. I wasn't able to steer the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. It took 5 attempts before the engine would restart. On the June 18th soon after I pulled out of my driveway onto a city street, the same event occurred, the dash lit up and the engine stopped, however this time I wasn't making a turn, but I had slowed down because another vehicle coming in the opposite direction had veered close to my side of the road.it took several attempts to restart the engine, and it soon cut off again before I got it back in the driveway. When this occurred, there is no way to guide the vehicle to the side. I was very fortunate that I wasn't hit. Now I am too scared to drive my vehicle.

Cherokee 6-cyl

  • 300 miles
From the that I drove it out of the dealership I noticed that applying the gas did not get me the instant needed power to get this 6-cylinder car moving. In November this car with less that 300 miles was back at the dealership when it also developed a surge in power and a fluctuating engine revving... it spent a month at the dealership before they could determine what the problem was. That problem may have been solved but the acceleration is still a concern of ours which we need to live with for another 2-years which is the remainder of our lease.
