The vehicle was towed to dar cars Kia located at (4700 branch ave, marlow heights, md) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 17V224000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 141,000.

Car started overheating and coolant backed up and over flowed coolant reservoir. Also being winter there was no heat coming from the heater. This happened whether traveling 70 miles an hour, stopped at a stop sign, or idling in park. Temperature gauge would go from normal temp to over heating temps, back and forth with the sound of bubbling in the reservoir and heavy coolant leakage. Me and my wife also noticed a strong foul fuel oder exspecially when driving on the freeway. I replaced the thermostat, flushed and filled the radiator with 50-50 mix of antifreeze and it changed none of the problems listed above. Had system pressure tested and a scan of the engine OB2 module and came back with 0 codes. Researched vehicle and found recall number SC147 engine/engine cooling, engine replacement.

January 10, 2020 had the recalls on my car checked. Nothing was wrong. While driving home February 28, 2020, my car started to make a horrible knocking noise. I was only about 2 miles from home. Pulled in and turned car off. Contact Kia was told to bring car in the next morning that there was a lifetime warranty on the motor. Start the car and drive 2 miles, the check engine like started blinking, oil pressure light came on, car died and never has started back. Asked the Kia dealer if they were able to provide me with a loaner car and was told no. First I was out a $300 towing bill because they never ever checked out the engine recall, and now I am out another $300 on a rental.

My 2014 Kia Sorento recently had an engine failure. I was driving on the freeway at 65 mph and heard a loud knocking so I started to exit the freeway by the time I got to the middle lane I heard a loud pop coming from the front of the vehicle. I lost all acceleration and coasted to the side of the freeway. Before the engine quit working there were no warning lights on my dash and temperature of the engine was normal. As soon as the engine quit working the oil light and engine light came on. After getting it towed 17 miles and 150 dollars later I was told by the mechanic the engine was completely seized up. They checked the oil levels and said it was half of a quart low. This vehicle is only 6 years old and all of the miles put on it are freeway miles driving to and from work. This engine has been burning up oil like crazy everytime I took it in for routine maintenance or replaced the oil myself it has been low and very black. The maintenance has been kept up on per spec's of the manufacturer.

Was driving on state highway while passing slower moving vehicles. Car shut off while moving at 60-65mph while overtaking vehicles. Pulled off to the side of the highway as far as possible as the car had shutoff completely. Tried to restart the car and the car would not begin the starting process at all. It sounded like a semi-grinding noise and click. Had the vehicle towed to mechanic and they have determined that the engine seized and is 'blown'. car has approximately 85K miles.

Today I was driving to my parents house on a long straight away highway (55mph speed limit). I began passing another vehicle and as soon as I got around him my check engine light, oil light, and battery light came on. I promptly pulled over on the side of the road and shut the car off. I checked oil level, which was fine. No obvious over heating, smoke, or leaks. I decided to turn the car back on to see if the lights were still there but the car wouldn't start. It was completely dead aside from one tiny crank noise then nothing. Luckily someone stopped and we got the car started by jumping it. Went to the local parts store and my battery, starter, and alternator all checked out ok. No further lights or issues the rest of the day. Not sure what happened but I'm scared to drive it long distance now. Never had an issue with this car before this.

I have two major safety hazards going on with my vehicle that I fear for the safety of my 4 children and wife when we're driving on the highway, and other fast roads. The first issue is the electrical. It first started back around 40,000 miles when I took my Kia to a Kia dealership in naperville, il and they told me both low beams were out, so they replace them. Ever since, I've been replacing these bulbs every 3-6 months because they keep blowing out while driving and it's against the law to use high beams, so I'm driving in pitch black. Now, just 3months ago, both of my brake lights go out, at the same time. Three years ago my back up camera stopped working, and hasn't worked since. At 57K miles my engine was recalled for engine failures, ad within the last 6 months I've experienced stalling, stuttering, knocking while driving on high ways, at red lights, in traffic. Furthermore, in September 27, 2019 my engine oil was completely undetectable on the dip stick when I took it in for a routine oil change at 99,664 miles. Also, back at 64,977 miles during routine service, it was low. With these concerns, I took my Kia in today to the gerald Kia North Aurora, il, they ran diagnostics and said everything was perfect. They said they cannot explain why my bulbs keep burning out. The tech manager also stated that the stalling and knocking in my engine is because my engine had no oil in it. He checked for leaks, and didn't find any leaks. My last oil change at a jiffy lube, they told me the same thing at 99,664 miles, it was almost dry. At todays service, mileage is 102,554. That means 5 quarts of oil burned up in 2,890 miles or most likely way sooner because after 1.5 months of the oil change I started experienced stalling, knocking, stuttering in the engine, so that must have been at only 1000-1500 miles. I put in a claim with Kia Consumer Affairs, but I'm not satisfied.

There was a problem with the back brakes I was told by the Kia dealer at evergreen Chicago, 4. low mileage, charcoal canister fell off, the brackets broke off, but we tied it back up, getting low mileage, I am upset because I am paying for this car, monthly, and now I am experiencing these problem, unacceptable these cars has had engine recalls. Fuel recalls etc. The charcoal canister fell off, first I had it wrap up, the car was still running.the problem with the engine started Nov - Dec -2019

Purchased a used 2014 Kia Sorento showing 106K miles. Test drive with the salesman for about 6 miles various types of roads. Very impressed with the car, performed well. Purchased it Saturday afternoon just prior to the used car dealer closing. After paperwork and plates done, drove it toward home. About 4 miles from dealer (interstate highway) saw the temperature guage climbing into the hot area. No other errors or lights came on. Let off on gas to pull over and temp guage came down to normal. Continued with caution thinking this was a faulty guage or sender unit. Limped home slowly. Noticed going up hills and pulling hard temp would climb. Letting off gas temp would drop to normal. Long story short got the car to a very reputable and experienced garage. Engine couldn't be repaired economically. Dealer did offer money back. As much as I didn't want to, wound up having to install another used low milage V6 engine. During the month in the garage I had done much research & digging & talking often with the very experienced mechanic in charge of the job. Coolant was low and all but two of the head bolts were more than finger tight !! how this engine was running was beyond me, it was! during all this research I read of many head gasket problems and leaks had been reported. The thing that was really concerning was the number of engine fires that had no real cause reported afterwards. My concern is if I had continued driving this car hard, could a leaky head gasket cause a fire under the hood" I learned from the mechanic all these head bolts stripped the threads from the block. I also learned there is another 1.5 inches of unused threads inside the block! my suspicion is Kia skimped on the length of all these head bolts to save a buck putting the reliability and safety at the customers risk.
