On 09/23/2018, while driving 70 on the highway about 1 month after my tune up, my car started making this horrible noise and the engine and oil lights started flashing and the car started jerking and rattling really hard. I pulled over and discovered that the engine blew a spark wire (I have a video). I drove to the nearest advance auto parts and a mechanic of 30 years said he never seen nothing like it. The next day I took it back to castrol (who completed my tune up) and they changed all spark plugs and wires stating that they never seen that happen before and there were no leaks and no indication as to why that happened. On 12/172018, the car started jerking and rattling again while going about 45-50 on a main road and once I parked, it completely shut off. I had it towed to ed voyle Kia and was told that there was a recall on my engine so it will be replaced. They put me in a rental and two months later I was told that yes, there is a recall, however, my VIN # hasn't come up yet so I can pay out of pocket and be reimbursed once my VIN# come up. They took the rental back and I'm now without transportation. I can't get to work and I still owe about 10K on my car. No one is helping me at Kia and I've been given the run around. I literally was provided a po box to send my complaint to. I've spoken to several people yet no one seem to care

Bought a used 2014 Kia Soul in 12/2015 with 34,000 and put on 17,400 miles to date.approx. 12/27/18 heard a very slight knocking, tapping noise (had to turn the accessories off to hear it) and checked the oil level (which was fine-just had it changed). No loss of power, no smoking, and no warning lights came on. The weather was cold (winter in the northeast) so I assumed the noise was a cold engine and the noise was hardly audible as the car warmed up. It eventually got louder and louder and got faster as I accelerated (still no loss of power, etc. I stopped driving the car middle of January 2019 and parked it in my driveway.(I was afraid I would do more damage) and had it towed to a Kia dealer to have them assess the noise. On 1/29/19 the dealer called me at work and told me "you need a new engine"....and also told me she spoke to service dept. And there is nothing they can do for me because it was out of warranty by 5 weeks (approx.).I've submitted all of my maintenance records to date (done by manufacturer's dates/only oil changes/ did not need any mechanical repairs). I've contacted Kia headquarters approx. 16 times and no one has returned any calls. Last time I spoke to them they are in the 'waiting stage' to see what decision can be made as far as ?? repair or replacement of the engine. They would like me to pay for it. (they want to make sure it's not something I did to the car). Meanwhile my vehicle is sitting on the back lot of the dealer. Keep in mind I've only put on 17,400 miles in 3 years.......please address if you can. Thank you! (I do have all the invoices, maintenance records, but cannot scan at this time)

Just finished gassing up after work from highway driving and oil light starts flicking on and off really fast for a min then goes away. After I pull off the main road to a neighborhood I'm about to pull over to check car and go over a speed bump car dies. So I get out pop hood open oil cap there no oil and fumes coming out and I really didnt get a warning light or anything to warn me there wasnt any oil other then the flickering light that just went off. It has 100000 miles got oil changed every 4000 to 5000 it last had one at 96000. So I have someone pick me up I get oil put I. it doesnt start I leave over night find out cpu has a sensor to protect engine from further damage if it gets hot so I disconnect battery and reconnect it starts but now theres a knocking sound I take it 2 min away to Firestone they listen to it and say the problem is a internal motor problem they cant fix sounds like a rod broke.or loose. So I have towed to dealer for now. I just saw the news about them catching fire and basically put 2 and 2 together. The cars are eating too much oil due to a regulator sensor and the oil sensor is not letting people now there isn't any or that its low til it's too late so the rods break and puncture the motor causing oil to leak and catch fire due to heat. So now I have a car that's undrivable that I have to pay possibly for a new engine due to a faulty distribution sensor and oil light warning system that causes overheating of the motor. I hope my recall notice comes soon to replace this motor cause I don't have 4 000 to 6000 dollars to replace a new one.

I was mid turn going home when suddenly my car refused to speed up and became to rumble. I successfully made it home right down the street. When while approaching my home my vehicle stalled and all lights suddenly came on. Oil, engine, battery. I have not had any issues with my car and I get my oil changes regularly ( warning light has never came on). I had triple a tow my vehicle to the dealership as I am still under warranty. They wanted to charge my 145 to just look at it. They said the warranty company might not cover the engine being shot. The dealership has not replaced my miles sticker to tell me when I need an oil change the last three times I've been there. They never informed me how long their oil changes are good for. I have read many reviews on this car and many people have had the same issue. My car is covered under warranty but they want to charge me and might not even fix it. I haven't been able to work without my car so I am low on funds. If a engine issues are very common with this model of vehicle they should be able to replace no questions asked. I pay for my warranties but they cant help me?

On October 27, 2018 while driving on I-10 West towards downtown baton rouge, my 2014 Kia Souls' engine 'popped' and lost acceleration very suddenly in heavy traffic. It was towed immediately to all star Kia of baton rouge on siegen lane where it was purchased four months prior. It was determined by the service department that the Soul had a 'massive engine failure' which cause it to throw a rod through the engine block. It was also at this time the service department informed me that the manufactures warranty does not apply to me since I am not the original owner and Kia has no responsibility for the repair or replace of the engine. After researching the problem with the engine failure online, I have found that this is a common problem with the 2014 and 2015 Kia Souls. Several reports have been filed with the NHTSA concerning both engine failures and engine fires, but has not been included in the recent recalls. I implore the NHTSA to include the 2014 Kia Soul in the recent recalls for Hyundai and Kia due to engine fire problems.

11-6-18 - while in motion, mid turn, my car shut down completely. All the lights came on in the dash, and then when car shut down, battery died as well and window was stuck down. I am so thankful I was not on the interstate going 70 miles an hour. I could have been killed. Dealership has said motor is locked up and cannot even be manually started & that I need a whole new engine.

Safety concern: Engine caught fire while driving. The vehicle is a 2014 Kia Soul with 104,000 miles. The vehicle was being driven through a residential area at <20 mph when the engine made a single "pop" sound and the vehicle expelled a large black cloud of smoke from the exhaust pipe. The driver pulled over, into a gas station. Shortly before coming to a complete stop, the driver heard another loud "pop" sound from the engine area of the vehicle, followed by an additional cloud of black smoke escaping from the engine area. When the vehicle reached a complete stop, the driver exited the vehicle and opened the hood of the car, to discover the top of the engine was on-fire. The fire was as tall as the engine hood and wide as the motor. It appears all components in the engine area were burned/melted, including the motor cover, hoses, and electrical wires. The driver notified the gas station attendant of the fire, and used the gas station's fire extinguisher to extinguish the engine fire. The owner of the vehicle was notified this repair was not eligible for warrantied repair, which expired at 100,000 miles, according to the Kia service representative. The vehicle was towed by Kia to a Kia dealership, at the expense of the owner, where it remained dormant for 5 days, due to a holiday break.

While driving on interstate at 60 mph loud sound from engine and all power lost. Was able to pull over to shoulder and dip stick showed no oil in engine. Oil just change by two months prior by Kia dealership. Looked under car and pool of oil. Had to have vehicle towed to dealership and was informed the engine blew and it was not covered under manufacturers warranty as we purchased this vehicle used from the dealership and the warranty is not transferable. The vehicle had 70,000 miles and the engine blew. So much for a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty when Kia does not transfer the warranty to a vehicle they sell at the dealership. Its called a manufacturer warranty not a owner warranty. Kia needs to step up and take responsibility for the faulty engines they have used. The dealership even admitted this was a engine failure and not owner failure. I have owned 4 Kia's and will never own another one.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact heard an abnormal knocking noise coming from the engine compartment. In addition, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was no oil in the vehicle. The contact was concerned that there was no warning indicator to alert them of the oil level. The vehicle was also towed to crain Kia of bentonville (2901 moberly ln, bentonville, ar) where the failure was confirmed. The dealer recommended that the engine be replaced. The oil alert failure was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

My 2014 Kia Soul could have killed my kids when it blew a rod at 120,000 miles. My 18 year old son was driving (my 21 year old daughter was a passenger) my car in a busy 4 lane traffic in Utah when the car lost all power! I am just grateful that my children did not die. I bought this car because Kia's are supposed to run forever. I did regular maintenance on my car and now I am looking at $5,000 to repair my car! I called Kia headquarters and the only thing I got was treated badly! how could this be my fault? an interesting thing is that a co-worker of mine had a 2014 Kia that did the exact same thing at 110,00 miles! she also had to pay the money and Kia treated her badly as well. I need help to pay for the repairs from Kia it is their fault!
